A day without stupid?

I wouldn't bet that the other nuclear nations won't include at least one who, on seeing the plans, says "Nope. Do this and we will consider it an act of aggression requiring a nuclear response from us against your nation".

That is, after all, how deterrence is meant to work, surely?
Well, that's certainly whast I am hoping....
That someone put a List of people to notify before oopening on the football...

I was kinda hoping that someone in the Pentagon has had the sense to replace it with an actual football during Trump's term in office, on the basis that he won't know the difference, and that it's a good deal safer for everyone.

They might want to write "Nuculer Football" on it, to complete the illusion.

Just give him an Etch A Sketch. "Draw the country you want to bomb, sir."

The football is only a communication device. What I hope is that he wasn't given valid release codes.

Good luck bashing any release code, no matter how valid, into The Duke. :)

Just install an app on his phone then and tell him it is The Football.

Should keep him distracted for the few seconds required to forget who he was planning to nuke :)

The codes are in the football. That's the whole point of the football.

Oh, god, nuclear release Emergency Action Message by Twitter.
"I hereby authorized setting 1SKew and releasing target package PDQ4 on...."
"...on, um, the pink country on this map. Everyone has this map, right?"

I keep rereading Bilby's post (#1773) and a lot of his predictions are sound. What world leader has made more threats of nuclear Armageddon than our own homegrown Strangelove? He seems to love the sound of his voice describing 'fire and fury the likes of which the world has never known.' He has an insane notion that we can literally erase a country off the planet and that we'd be justified and untouchable. It matches the accounts we've had of WH insiders who are appalled by the level of his incoherence, impetuosity, and grandiose attitudes. We have a man at the top with nukes who has the personality of a demanding, completely spoiled seven year old.

And a population riddled with support for him, including some people on this very board who have learned at least enough to not voice their support of him openly.

And for a little harmless silly stupid.

Congratulations @BorisJohnson on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingston.
The good news is, this is silly and harmless. Typo, auto-correct, idiot? It doesn't matter. It's funny, for a moment when the woman who is one BJ away from setting US policy makes such an error.

Trump Just Blamed Union Dues, Which Are Paid By Workers Not Companies, For GM’s Layoffs

“They could’ve kept that gorgeous plant,” Trump said. “Lower your dues. Lower your dues.”

Yeah, I don't think he'll carry Michigan again. UAW folks are pretty pissed off about the plant closings and layoffs the car companies are doing after Bonespurs promising he would stop that.
Well, that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the Dues!

It really depends on just how much of Trump's lies Michigan voters will continue to believe.

I used to feel fairly confident that when reality bumped directly into a delusional person's self interest in a painful way, they would change their minds, but that confidence has been badly beaten up in the Trump era. I still believe self interest will ultimately prevail over ideology, but had not taken into account just how far ideological zeal could influence what people told themselves about the pain they're experiencing. Seems it takes much more personal pain than I had figured before honest questioning begins.

The willingness of people to do things against their own interests in order to act out their emotions, has surprised me too. Einstein wasn't kidding when he said that the only two things that are infinite are the universe and human stupidity (and he wasn't sure about the universe).

Well, all the math models predict a limit to stupidity. It's a high limit, but there is a limit.
But then we gave an election year....

Poor whittle President.

The odd thing here? That is a decent length quote. He didn't type that out himself from memory.
