From my understanding, they're barrelling ahead with the impeachment inquiry anyway. Dismissing out of hand the fact that their main source for the bribery claims has been exposed as a Russian agent and acting as if that's not really a big deal at all.

Because they've (correctly) figured that the rubes that make up their base will believe anything they tell them. "Well, the radical left wing media says he's a Russian asset, but..." Or "the FBI says he's a Russian asset, but they're the 'Deep State' and have been compromised by Crooked Hillary and George Soros." At this point, the House Republicans don't even have to make up the story...it will spring up from the minds of their idiot followers and be shared on Facebook and Truth Social.
 
Unfortunately true. Crazy Marge Greene, for instance, hasn't paid any price for her delusional statements. She's probably in a stronger position with her home base, because she's on their TV every time she says something nuts.
 
Gullible MAGA zealots could easily see the Russian government as supplying helpful factual information about corrupt dealings of the Biden family behind the scenes. After all, they see Donald Trump as a great leader, so they can pretty much shrug this "trusted FBI informant" off as help from a foreign ally rather than an espionage operation designed to undermine and weaken the US government.

And if you're trying to plant false information on a government you do it by providing a lot of true information that they can confirm by other means. Which means that just because you can verify a whole bunch of stuff doesn't mean the rest is also true.

Alexander Smirnov was re-arrested after being released from custody on charges of making false statements to the FBI that were handed down last week.

Those charges allege that Smirnov lied about statements he made to authorities including that Hunter Biden had done business in Ukraine, and that he and president Joe Biden had received bribes from Ukrainian-based energy company Burisma.

Smirnov was arrested Thursday for the same charges he was arrested for last week. Smirnov’s legal team quickly filed a motion for his release, alleging that the second arrest was improper. “There are no provisions for the re-arrest of Mr. Smirnov in this District after being Ordered released,” the motion said. His lawyers requested that Smirnov be immediately released, or receive a detention hearing “without unnecessary delay.”

Seems like that while Hunter has issues with various demons, he isn't an idiot and easily followed a long script. The GOP were in a fishing expedition with very little bait. So hardly surprising they caught no fish.

If they wanted a show they would have had a public hearing. Even the Republicans are coming out of the closed door hearing saying that transcript will read well for Hunter Biden.

Sure. But just because something was done in public and recorded on video doesn’t mean that Trump’s most ardent followers won’t interpret it the way they want to. (E.g., Jan 6)
 
Apparently it’s time for more ‘star’ witnesses to testify against Hunter Biden. This time the GOP has dredged up a couple of people doing time for fraud as their “ this time for sure!” moment.

They even sent a letter wondering why one of their Star witnesses wasn’t given early release. Said “witness” has only served 3 years of his 15 year sentence for fraud.

Remember, the GOP is truly the party of Law and Order!

But impeaching Trump for trying to get Ukraine to announce fake Biden investigation announcement in return for the release of funding passed by Congress (of which said announcement only didn't happrn due to whistleblower) and then inciting a riot in a last ditch attempt to steal election was hyper partisan.
