Biden's speech of Sept 1 2022 link

He was authentic and credilble at the time because he was the ONLY politician at the time saying he would place tariffs and prevent further globalization. All the other politicians (both sides) were saying the same other story. They were saying the jobs went away are aren't ever coming back. The middle class knew better because they knew the real truth that our politicians had sold them out to special interests and were still selling them out.

All the other stuff about the hair and the toilets, the little people could care less about. All the little people care about is whether their OWN lives get better or not. And for better or worse Trump was authentic to them because he was telling the truth. I happen to believe Biden has learned a lesson from this because so far he has not removed mann of Trump's tarriffs and appears genuenly interested in bringing strategic industry (chips) back to Ohio.

All I'm saying (related to the OP) is that Biden should keep the good things about Trump (tariffs) and get rid of the bad things about Trump (trying to look like Hitler to other party). And he will be tons more successful.
Trump's tariff policy cost the US about 250,000 jobs (mostly middle-class jobs) and didn't change the trade imbalance in the least. It reduced our GNP and hurt the country.

Globalism does not work for the middle class and the middle class knows this. The middle class knows Washington was gravely mistaken especially with regards:

1. That production and manufacturing jobs were unimportant because those positions would be replaced by better paying service and information jobs....and
2. That if the US helped China into the WTO, the PRC would become more of a democracy.
Is that true? While some things are a bit harder today, we have a lot more today that we did in the 80s. If anything, one of the perceived First World strains stems straight from that! Our access to data, media, entertainment has never been better. Cars are better. Appliances and stuff for the home is (well it was) plentiful. It isn't as reliable, but it is a lot cheaper, and lower and middle class do get those advantages.
The real and unvarnished truth is that our political elite messed up big time and the middle class knows this.
That why the last few elections haven't been blow outs?
That is why the globalism pendulum has started swinging the other way and its not coming back.
Dude... the factories in China closed and moved to Vietnam. That toothpaste is out of the tube, ain't going back in.
Despite what wikipedia has to say about it.

All of this is off topic to the OP anyway. Even if your argument is correct, Biden would still favor anti-globalism at this point because that is what the middle class wants.
The middle class wants its cake... and to eat it. They want all of the stuff they can get... and they want it cheap... and if it is convenient, more good paying jobs in the US... but only if that doesn't impact the first two things.

OMG, the sickness runs deep.
The middle class knew better because they knew the real truth that our politicians had sold them out to special interests and were still selling them out.
Yeah those coal miners remain in eternal gratitude for Trump saving their industry and giving them back those high paying jobs just like he promised.
Oh, wait …

Your hero is a fraud, Vonse. You have been HAD.

As pointed out, Cheato’s tariffs were a total debacle that hurt our economy and destroyed another quarter million jobs. But Trump told you it worked so you believed him.

There’s a reason they’re called trumpsuckers.

You aren't rebutting anything here--trade wars hurt everyone. The only question is who gets hurt worse.

And most of the jobs that disappeared were lost to automation, not to outsourcing.

Trump did not gain popularity by acting like a jerk he did so by being authentic and credible with the middle class.
This might be the biggest shovelful of bullshit I've read all week.

Trump's fans proudly embraced his ethic of "fuck your feelings."

Did you miss that?

As for authenticity, how many middle class men get up every morning and have a team work for an hour on their hair and makeup? How many middle class people think that shitting in the White House toilets is beneath them and complain that they aren't made of gold? How many middle class workers have burned through a bevy of supermodel wives while cheating on them with porn stars?

And credible? Right now we're learning that Trump had nuclear secrets at his totally relatable to the middle class golf resort, lied about taking them, lied when asked to return them, lied when subpoenaed to return them, and then spun at least half a dozen lies about the boxes of classified documents that were found on his sprawling "middle class" property.

But you go on admiring Fragilego Mussolini if that makes you feel better than "the little people." Today he said that his medical records will reveal that he's "an absolutely perfect physical specimen" and I bet you'll believe that, too. Because he's so honest and authentic...
I'm not admiring Mussolini (or Trump) but pointing out that Biden should capture and copy the best parts of Trump and not the worst charactoristics. Trumps populist positions were basically correct but his personal flaws obviously were not.

The average Trump supporter is dispised and hated by you and liberals then thrown under the bus by Trump. I'm pretty sure they would like to go somewhere else if there were somewhere else to go. And that a politician (like Biden) would do better attempting to win them over to his side rather than acting like Darth Sidious.

--trade wars hurt everyone. The only question is who gets hurt worse.
Judging by the looks of Detroit I'd say the US lost the most and Shanghai got hurt the least by the last trade war.

His populist positions were empty bumper sticker slogans with no basis in reality. The coal thing is a great example. His tariffs were stupid and hurt more than they helped. His biggest legislative accomplishment was the Ryan/McConnell corporate tax giveaway. His populist appeal was convincing rust belt that he was for them while fucking them over. How good for the middle class were his cabinet selections like Wilbur Ross, Andrew Wheeler, Rick Perry, etc... How about the federalist society judges that were packed in?

Biden should capture and copy the best parts of Trump
I don’t think Biden wants any part of that cockwomble. Not even the best part; that hair would just look stupid on him.

Agreed. Biden is a straight shooter compared to most politicians (which is a very low bar!). He's not going to lie to people saying that it's possible to bring back the 1950's.

Populist positions? Jebus Christ! He has no positions, other than TRUMP RICH! Trump is nothing but Trump. That you even think he gives a fuck about a worker is a betrayal of your level of trust in people. There is nothing worth emulating about Trump.

Biden is currently busy running a country and signing off on legislation that'll benefit those people. Biden cares more about the average Trump voter than Trump ever did.

Trump supporters are like a fraud victim who is currently being defrauded. They are so into the con, they can't leverage their rationality outside of the con. Steve Bannon was just arrested for defrauding people with a 'build a wall' scam. These are Trump's people. And the "Stop the Steal" was exposed for the political scam it was as well. Yet, they are still all about Trump.

Uh huh.
but pointing out that Biden should capture and copy the best parts of Trump
He has. So has everyone else on the planet. Emulating the best parts of Trump is real fucking easy. I'm doing it now.
Trumps populist positions were basically correct
It is the height of hubris to think that just because you agree with someone, they are correct. Kinda like how you always mistakenly believe you represent the middle class of America.
The average Trump supporter is dispised and hated by you and liberals then thrown under the bus by Trump. I'm pretty sure they would like to go somewhere else if there were somewhere else to go.
Nope. Most Trumptards are so fucking stupid they need a "goodie" and a "baddie" in their political discourse. If you still support Trump, you're tribal, not political - and incidentally one of the best reasons why voting should never be compulsory in the US.
And that a politician (like Biden) would do better attempting to win them over to his side rather than acting like Darth Sidious
Jesus fucking Christ. One speech (which incidentally you said you had no problem with) that has some red in it and you're ready to throw Biden under the bus. Trying to reach people with such an attitude will always be more trouble than it's worth. Enjoy living on the fringe.

A couple years ago, I told a Trump-supporting co-worker about the experience a friend of mine had when she was a contestant on "The Apprentice." When Trump was introduced to the contestants, he got to her, stared at her chest and said "honey, if you wanna make it in this business you're gonna have to do something about those."

Not "welcome to the cast" or "we expect great things." Nope. It was "your tits aren't big enough." Just straight up sexually harassed her right off the bat. And she wasn't unattractive. She was cast on a network television show, so...

My co-worker's response? "Ha, that's my boy!" He thought it was cool that Trump harasses women and treats them like objects. And if you think that's wrong, you're a "triggered" "libtard."

This is the mentality of a Trump supporter.

This is about the best, most succinct explanation of Trumpers I've read.
I've come to the conclusion that die-hard Trump supporters are like the followers of Tommy, the only way to follow and be like Tommy was to intentionally become deaf, dumb, and blind.

WASHINGTON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Days after Democratic President Joe Biden gave a fiery speech attacking former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies as an extremist threat, a Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on Wednesday found a majority of Americans believe Trump's movement is undermining democracy.

Fifty-eight percent of respondents in the two-day poll - including one in four Republicans - said Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement is threatening America's democratic foundations.

Biden's Sept. 1 speech marked a sharp turn for his efforts to boost Democrats in the Nov. 8 midterm elections, when Republicans aim to win control of the U.S. Congress. read more

I actually enjoyed the speech, in an ironic sort of way.

They're no longer pretending.
Yes. The Dems are no longer pretending that the GOP primary's results propping up a bunch of 2020 Election deniers isn't a threat to our nation's democracy. That the mere saying the 2020 election was "stolen" lifted people up in the polls once anointed by Donald Trump.
Sure, tell yourself that's what I meant.

I don't know about you, but I grew up in the era of "better dead than Red," and find it endlessly fascinating that the GOP has embraced that color. For decades, the Republican Party stoked the fires of fear about "the Reds" hiding under the bed, bemoaned everything that happened in "Red Square," and warned about "the Red Menace."

The colors switched in the 1980s for reasons I never understood. For decades it was the Blue-Bloods versus the Red-friendly.

Okay...so you agree with the right wing that Biden's speech was the most divisive thing anyone had ever done, because....red lights?

Do I need to remind you of the color of the hats at the latest Trump rally?
It makes some sense that the Republicans would be dressed in red since the Republican color is red. But Biden is a Democrat and their color is supposed to be blue. Here we have what should be a blue democrat sporting Lucifer colors. But color notwithstanding, what was the purpose of the ultra dark lighting?

Trump never had a speech I am aware of with that type of dark "Dark Sidious" kind of setting.
You forgetting his cPAC appearance on a stage shaped like a Nazi symbol?
Yeah, who designed that stage for them? What a Nazi the designer must be. Did you join the effort to ostracize the designer?

The right is basically saying do it our way or we will take power by force.
True, they're the ones who set fire to their cities every time the get upset.
