California Doing California Things

Army maneuvers happen all the time.
And they are always expensive. Owing to military secrecy, we rarely get a clear receipt, but an advanced artillery exercise is known to involve costs upward of ten million dollars, even if all goes well. Did you think these things were cheap?

the film industry has turned its back on California.
The California film industry generates $30 billion dollars annually and employs 200,000 Californians. It generates around 1.5% of the state's tax revenue, and is a major draw for tourism and other businesses that continue to bring us prosperity and cultural capital that last long after any particular project has wrapped.

But OTHER PLACES have had the balls to try to elbow in on their game! Can you imagine THE NERVE??? Who the hell wants to go to the Greek Isles instead of standing in front of a green screen off Wilshire, anyway?

There's room for everyone, I think. It's not as though people have lost their interest in movies, though alas for the big studios it is more difficult to make money off of streaming platforms.

You don't think a historically unprecedented live artillery exercise arcing over the state's busiest freeway is an event worthy of gubernatorial comment? Or you just don't think Newsom should be permitted to criticize the President?

If Newsom has any to say he should be questioning why the he’ll 15 miles of freeway was closed, was it warranted, why was it closed, what was the actual risks. But no, he stuns his mouth off. Insufferable prick,
Who would he ask about that, exactly? The California Highway Patrol, perhaps?

Seems your man Newsom was ultimately responsible for closing I5. Why do you defend this shit?
They legit bombed the freeway by accident and you're still complaining that it was closed for a few minutes? {snip}

“legit bombed the freeway” lol, you and Newsom are such the drama queens. “Closed for a few minutes”? Lol, it was closed for a few hours and caused havoc.

Trump knows how to noise Newsom up and that dumb fuck falls into it every single time and just makes an ass of himself. That’s your pick for 2028? lol, Trump 2028 it is then.
How long do you suppose the freeway closure would have lasted if shrapnel hit cars as people drove under live artillery fire? Even if none of the cars were hit, just the shock of an artillery shell exploding overhead could have caused a multi car pile-up.

That havoc of which you speak was inevitable once Trump decided to go through with the live-fire-over-freeway-traffic dumbassery.

Who is this "we" you talk of? Entrepreneurs invent. Newsom doesn't have the brains for inventing.
Of course he doesn't. I have no idea why you're so obsessed with this guy.
Latent homosexuality?
My money's on Ayn Rand Objectivist Syndrome.

Remember kids, if you haven't invented calculus by the time you're 12, you're a moocher. Unless you're a business administrator who runs a railroad or a shady real estate business. But not any other kind of executive or administrator because <reasons>.

I suppose you don’t have any idea why people on here obsess about Trump either.
I don't see anyone blaming Trump for every random-ass thing that happens in the country. Usually it's, you know, the shit he says and does.

There's a point there, but the ever increasing number of electronic intrusions into our awareness meant to gain our attention and/or influence our thoughts make me wonder ... is there really room for all that in the average person's brain? I know it overloads mine sometimes, but perhaps I'm just old and didn't grow up accustomed to 24/7 pitches.

And another thing about California! Our zoos are so nice, animals are trying to get in instead of out:

‘Polite’ black bear visits fellow bears at Northern California zoo

"The Sequoia Park Zoo backs into wooded area where wild animals, including bears, are common, said Jim Campbell-Spickler, the zoo’s director. But it was the first time he’s heard of a bear coming in.

"He was able to get in by climbing a tree but was not able to get out” until staff let him out through a service gate back into the woods, Campbell-Spickler said."

(While the zoo used male pronouns when describing the bear, its sex was not ultimately determined, said Montagna, though a report said “it had female characteristics.”)
Also refused to admit she did anything wrong and went back twice for something.

Voted, and counted!

It's looking like Prop 50 is nearly certain to pass, with general agreement of more than 60% supporting across multiple polling agencies. Many here know that it wasn't the path I would have chosen, but I will gracefully defer to the popular sentiment and revise my expectations. If this is what we're doing, then by God I hope it actually works as planned. Wonder who or what they are tapping to draw this map? Is it the same people who failed to predict the nearly across-the-board red shift in 2024?

Meanwhile, the 2026 gubernatorial race is heating up, with 15 candidates declared.

Katie Porter is a clear front runner at the moment, but that is I think unlikely to continue to be true; she's benefiting from a divided centrist vote and not much competition from the more liberal wing.

He has neither declared nor undeclared, but I'm sort of hoping Eric Swalwell will throw his hat into the ring.

Eleni Kounalakis and Fiona Ma are doing some weird musical chairs thing running for each other's jobs instead of the governor's mansion? Possibly some sort of 4d chess thing to get Ma into the White House after the revolution. Or just a trade for Kounalakis' endorsement.
