Child Rapist Trump Ruins Christmas

That's right, I have a 45000 shipment coming
It's not my business, but what did you buy $45,000 worth of in this business climate? Imported, apparently from China.

I'm having trouble working up any more sympathy for you than I have for Walmart.
Tom
Sympathy for WAL-MART???!
2-yr view below. If there is one business that knows how to navigate Trumpy ground, they’re it. They would be expected to be among the first and worst hurt by the Chyyyyna tariff debacle, yet their stock is up by almost exactly the same amount that the dollar is down since King Donald II was coronated.

According to the current economic strategy in force, China has to pay the $45k,
That is not economic strategy, it is Rump's political strategy. And it's STUPID. The exporter doesn't pay that.
Economicly; ALL costs get passed on to the buyer/consumer. Politicaly; producers only suffer from a decrease in sales.
Jarhyn's choices are to pay the 45k, and raise the retal price. Or send the shipment back. The suplier will not be sending money to pay the terrif.
When an incredibly stupid person, or a large group of them is in charge, sometimes the only course is to let them have their way and try to salvage something from the debris.
They are not only stupid, they are bullys. Letting a bully have it's way only rewards/encourages them. they step-up their bullying.

No, the thing still hasn't even finished being made yet.

My choices are to store it in China until there's less risk of putting it on the ocean and getting stuck in a lurch... But that also delays shipment and release

Ugh. I'm picturing the salmon loaf my mom made in the 60s. Not one of her masterpieces.
Probably couldn’t tell it apart from boiled trump rump.
Salmon would be more nutritious and more palatable and less contaminated with nasty disease, and I share the anti-salmon loaf from the 60’s sentiment.

What did your Congressman say when you told him about your problem?

My husband and I own an apparel (lingerie, mostly) brand for a specific kink community.
"Clothing from China" would have answered my question.

What I don't understand is why small importers would be surprised and angry about TACO government policies. Walmart is big and rich enough to get special exceptions, but y'all are not. Why are y'all surprised to find out that President Taco is making the rich richer and the rest of us...
Tom

coronated
WTF is "coronated"??

A person who attends his own coronation is crowned.
Coronated, crownified, coronized … who’s counting?
No, counting is making someone an Earl.

The Normans changed the title to Earl in England, after they discovered that the word Count was a homophone of "cunt" in Old English. It's hard to crush a population under your heel when they are busy laughing at your aristocratic titles.

I'm not surprised. In fact, I'm depressingly not surprised.

I'm still angry it happened and we should still talk about it happening, because not only does Trump rape children, he has also thrown a wrench into Christmas season logistics.

I understand you situation and frustration.

But it illustrates the problem, deep dependence on cheap Chinese goods. It is a leverage over the USA. People want to make money on cheap stuff without a lot of effort.

Walmart is essentially a factory outlet for China.

This situation was coming for a long time.

Have you looked at Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Mexico?

Have you looked at manufacturing in the USA? There are people who do piece work at home.

Do a search on American piece work garment manufacturing. Probably cheap done by illegals.

How many garments a month do you sell?

Keep in mind others are in similar situations and are finding ways around it.

Second and third sourcing is the name of the game.

As it gets more politically contentious with China trade gets more dicey. I would not count on it if you are dependent on the income.

No, it doesn't; it represents the fact that supply chains are global now.

No, it wasn't. There was literally no need to charge US consumers 100% markups on literally everything they need to buy.

Have you looked at Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Mexico?
For a very specific product that consumers expect to be consistent despite the fact that none of the material stocks I need for my product are available in any of those locations let alone a production line that could replicate it...

"Have you tried the first thing anyone tries in this situation"...

Have you looked at manufacturing in the USA? There are people who do piece work at home.
Hahaha! US manufacturing in this product category sucks.

One of our competitors tried this and EVERYONE complained.

The warehouse we ship from also does shipping and handling for a couple others in the industry, and they straight up threw away the domestic product they received it was so bad and made the supplier send them something else.

Wrong kind of garment.

How many garments a month do you sell?
About 6-8k worth with only a single size option so far; the container has our other three sizes in it.

Keep in mind others are in similar situations and are finding ways around it.
Yes they are, but no they aren't. It's literally Russian roulette depending on where a container happens to be. There's maybe a 30% chance someone will unavoidably be hit for double their normal resupply cost.

Second and third sourcing is the name of the game.
That's really NOT how that works with this product.

As it gets more politically contentious with China trade gets more dicey. I would not count on it if you are dependent on the income.
There's no need for this situation.

Which is my point: to put blame squarely on the shoulders of Donald Trump, the Child Rapist that is ruining Christmas.

There is literally no reason for you to try to blame the victim here; if you think it's a mistake to have overseas manufacturing and imports as a business model because what if a world leader throws a pissy pants tantrum and can't handle it maturely, but that is not a normal business logistics concern that anyone should have to deal with.
