Climate Change(d)?

The actual science, the references to which TSwizzle actively ignores, does not have a political orientation.

No I don't ignore "the actual science"

You do.

Nah, you just don't like it when I point out the obvious flaws in the studies written by activist "scientists" that get presented on here as "science". We've been through this routine numerous times, it is beyond tedious.

It will be a balmy 70f in Santa Monica later today

Who cares?

Wake me up if THAT ever happens!
“Sure Jan” isn’t pointing out flaws*, it’s just flaunting your inability or unwillingness to understand science.
“Activist scientists” are a figment of your science denying imagination.
The inability to comprehend studies doesn’t speak to their flaws, it highlights your anti-science dogmatism.

*neither is “ 🙄

Give me an example of a citation to a scientific article that I have presented of which you have pointed out the obvious flaws.

If you can just one I will consider this statement to have merit.

And then please provide evidence that the author of said article is an “activist”.

How much does it cost to insure your home for wild fires?

Repeating a false statement over and over doesn't make it true. Can you point to even ONE (1) post of yours which approached the topic scientifically? How often do you cite or excerpt from a peer-reviewed journal article?

I missed it. Sorry. Can you link me to your pointing out obvious flaws? My recollection is that you've written "rapture-like cult" a few dozen times, but little else.

I was able to link to that post. Do you have me set to IGNORE? I don't know why else you'd be unable to link.
Anyway your assertion is false. I did NOT ask for a report of Santa Monica temperature. Instead . . .
We've not heard from Santa Monica recently. Might I ask our Santa Monican climatologist to drive up the coast a few miles and report on temperatures there?

I specifically asked you to drive UP the coast, AWAY from Santa Monica a few miles and report on conditions THERE. Did I need to CAPITALIZE key-words, as I've done in this rephrasing?

This was NOT dark humor. Did anyone other than thebeave think I was suggesting, sarcastically or not, that Mr. Swiz was gone forever?
Instead the very next sentence implied I thought Mr. Swiz was reading the thread:

My guess is its still on the warm side in Santa Monica. Maybe if his city and/or house burns down, he'll stop posting here and we can celebrate his misfortune and our gain with a little party. Making this forum as left as possible is always a plus. Whattaya think?

I think it interesting that you equate "believing in science" with "left."
??? Where did I say that? I didn't say anything about science.
Well, then you'll have to clarify your remark. AFAIK our Santa Monican is noted here particularly for his rejection of science; and you proposed to celebrate his house burning down to make the forum more "left." Is there some other way that the Santa Monican is "right" that would lead you to celebrate his loss?
My comment was a sarcastic response to your "dark humor" about a possible looming tragedy for TSwizzle. Which I think a lot of people would be fine with, because he doesn't share the same political orientation as themselves.

Confused. You seem to be very confused. WHICH comment by you was sarcastic? Surely not "??? Where did I say that? I didn't say anything about science.", no? An in that case, you have overlooked the query I posed to you, shown above in red. What gives? Can't you follow a train of thought?

I suppose that both thebeave and Mr. Swiz are far too intelligent to actually support Donald Trump. But each of them has been seen to fall for foolish right-wing memes from time to time.

You accuse my ordinary remark of being "dark humor", wishing ill on Mr. Swiz. But YOU came up with that. Then you pretend to forget that Swiz, a least in this thread, continually rejects science, and is well-known for that. When I ask for clarification, you fall back on "sarcasm." Was EVERY sentence by thebeave shown above sarcastic? Or are there charges against Mr. Swiz OTHER than rejecting science, which thebeave thinks are contrary to "left"?

It is just this sort of confused thinking and incompetent logic that led to the disastrous result on November 5th.

My home is not in a wild fire zone so it does not affect my home insurance.

Malibu is a high risk wildfire zone. Wildfires are frequent in that area.

Wildfires are natural (and necessary) phenomenon in California. But they are typically caused by humans.

It is a catastrophic 70f now. #PrayForSantaMonicaPier!!!

Cher and Dick Van Dyke had to evacuate? And that doesn't bother you in the least? Have you no heart?
Will the NW winds this afternoon blow the smoke at you?
I hate it when that happens.

Listened to a BBC report from Pakistan on glacier melts in the Himalayas.

Towns and villages are being washed away. Melting ice forms a lake, lake breaks through ice, a sudden flood. Several hundred glaciers.

Pakistan does not have the resources to move people, they are stuck. They appear to have had a decent life until now. Sad, kids with an unknown future.

In other news expect coffee prices to spike. Work is being done to develop strains resistant to climate change.

We are relatively isolated from it now compared tom other places, but it will catch up to us. Food supplies and effect on global economies and trade.

Meanwhile Trump's mantra is Drill !!! Drill !!! Drill !!!
And when the floods come then there isn't the snowmelt during the summer and they get drought.

Jokulhlaups. It is becoming more common. Juneau has had more in the last ten years than ever before.

Turns out we have less margin than we thought. The survival limit of 35C wet bulb turns out be a best case. In low humidity conditions the body can't actually sweat enough to get maximum cooling. And old people don't do as well, either.

I have considered the local extremes to be unpleasant to be avoided as much as possible, but not a danger with enough water. Turns out we have had a peak that would not be survivable for extended exposure. (Although I suspect you could survive it by spraying yourself with water as the limit is sweating.)

Real world: 1,300 Hajj pilgrims didn't come home.

Evacuation orders from the Palisades Fire spread to northern parts of the coastal city of Santa Monica tonight, officials said. The city issued an evacuation order for all areas north of San Vicente Boulevard at around 7:30 p.m.2 hours ago

But hey, California has always had wild fires.

How's it going Tswizzle?

Be nice!
However, SoCal is one of the last places on earth I would ever want to live.
At least OR has an end to fire season.

You are right. The quip was inappropriate. His friends and family may be in distress. My apologies.

I moved to the Seattle area in 1990. During COVID I got N95 masks said to be effective. Today I have a supply ofthe masks for wild fire smoke from Washington and Canada.

In my 35 years in Seattle the wild fire smoke pollution severity and fire season duration over the last few years is new. Some have called it becoming a continuous fire season.

Fo0r people in Southern California abandoning cars and running down the road with fires on both sides it is very much 'apocalyptic'
.

The devastating wildfires that are catching the attention of the climate apocalypse ghouls have nothing to do with "climate change". These fires in the Pacific Palisades are being exasperated by some glorious incompetence from likes of LA City Mayor Karen Bass, who incidentally is on a nice little jolly to Ghana for the coronation of a king or something (while Rome burns and all that) a lack of water at the fire hydrants and a lack of resources. Perhaps if the LA City fire chief hadn't been a DEI hire (Kristen Crowley, hailed as the first LBGQWERTY non binary female or something) we would have a competent leader in charge of the effort. There is indeed a lot of finger pointing at the likes of insufferable prick Gavin Newson, Karen Bass and the LA County board of supervisors over this. Newsom will undoubtably blame climate change for this because he's a fucking moron. The multi millionaires whose homes have been destroyed should think long and hard about who they vote for to run the state and city in future.

Anyway, it is a catastrophic 69 degrees in a blustery Santa Monica today. My patio furniture was blown over, oh the humanity!!

Bravo.

That's some of the best satire I have seen in years. Hits all of the moronic "talking points" on the nail. I was particularly impressed that you managed to shoe-horn DEI in there.

Well done.

Obviously the LAFD shouldn't have hired someone just because she is a lesbian.

It would have made FAR more sense to appoint a chief who was a 20 plus year veteran of the LAFD, and who had served as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Engineer, Fire Inspector, Captain I, Captain II, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Chief Deputy, and Fire Chief, before getting the top job.

But apparently they couldn't find anyone with such extensive experience, and went with the DEI pick instead.

Oh, wait.

Shit.

Anything but considering human caused climate change and human behavior, right?

LA to begin with would not exist as it is today without large amounts of water from elsewhere.

Water from Colorado. Swimming pools, hot tubs, lawns and golf courses in the desert. Homes extending into dry zones. It was only a matter of time before limits were reached with 'apocalyptic' kinds of results.

Human caused climate change? I would consider if there was evidence of it!

I have always said that human behavior is a major factor in California wildfires.

Tswizzle

Regardless of what you say I imagine you may be feeling some distress.

As is happening around the globe things in the LA area will not get better, it will get worse. . It was inevitable even without climate change. Water shortages in Ca were predicted back in the 90s. Population and industrial growth take water.

As to proof we have all gone over that again and aging with you. The observed data and measurements of atmospheric greenhouse gasses. At previous levels without human additions greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere acted like a greenhouse that keeps the surface temperature in a range warm enough to support liquid water and life.

Add more greenhouse gases and surface temperature goes up. It is as simple as that. Like adding a blanket when you go to bed.

A few billion years ago, high levels of carbon dioxide in the Venusian atmosphere may have trapped enough heat to trigger a global SGE that boiled away the oceans. This is known as a runaway greenhouse effect. Today, the surface of Venus is hot enough to melt lead.Mar 22, 2018

The greenhouse effect had made Venus a furnace, while lack of atmosphere had locked Mars in a deep freeze. This was visible evidence that climate can be delicately balanced, so that a planet's atmosphere could flip from a livable state to a deadly one.

The greenhouse effect is not in dispute. You can of course find contry aikms on the net. but is very small sizecomp[red to the global scientifc concensus.
