1) Even if they provide no protection for the wearer they should be mandated because it is very clear they provide protection for society. Those who won't protect their society should be encouraged to leave said society.

2) The good masks definitely protect the wearer also.

By the way, didn't you see last night's WH press briefing on COVID? Trump wasn't there, but Pence was, along with a few other Trumpy lackeys, and they all wore masks and droned on and on about how the virus is real and we all need to continue social distancing and wearing masks. Pence mentioned masks 15 times.
