And his spokeswoman, Christina Pushaw, noted that DeSantis has been arguing for months that he "anticipated cases rising in Florida and other southern states this summer, as there was a seasonal increase last summer in these states."

"It's a seasonal virus and this is the seasonal pattern it follows in the Sun Belt states," DeSantis said earlier this week, before adding that he believes the cases will drop in August.

Yes, the "seasonal" Covid-19 fluctuations. Like it surged in the Spring then the Summer then Late Fall / Early Winter. Though it didn't surge this last spring (actually there was a mini-surge in Florida) because of vaccination until Delta sprouted and now it is surging seasonal in the Summer again. So fucking seasonal! A disease for all seasons!

Florida is over 12,600 cases reported today, which is near what the country was at a day in June. You know, before this latest "seasonal" fluctuation.

His enthusiasm for science is such that he has completely ignored my post in this thread five days ago providing the evidence he claimed didn't exist, showing that masks are an effective measure to prevent the spread of Covid.

He asked for the science. He was given the science he asked for. He completely ignored it.

Maybe he's just got me on 'ignore', and so hasn't seen the evidence I posted.

But the fact remains that having blustered about the lack of evidence, his response to the evidence, which is easily found elsewhere on the Internet, has been completely nonexistent. He's still making the same totally incorrect claims, and still asserting that his position is backed by science, despite being provided not just the one paper he requested (and claimed didn't exist), but THREE such papers. Versus the ZERO papers he has quoted that support his allegedly scientific claims.

One thing I like about this place is that there are several examples that serve to explain the otherwise befuddling phenomenon of anti-science, anti-reality types proliferating in American (and other generally western) society.
But once you understand the terminal nature of their delusion, there is little else to gain from interacting with them.

I was talking with my Doc Father-in-Law and he was saying those who were infected, most likely had the best protection.

Generally it's true, but in this case it looks like the mrna vaccines are providing better protection against variants compared to infection alone. On the other hand, infection plus vaccine works better than either infection or vaccine alone, and that applies to the infected getting only one vaccine dose.

The moral of the story is to go out and get infected then get your one-and-done vaccine.*

I should have added that there is another advantage vaccine immunity has, that it is more consistent from person to person, but infection immunity varies more from person to person.

That's exactly what we're seeing here. Had Trump and his supporters clamped down on the primitive methods for slowing down C19 15 months ago, we wouldn't be going through all this crap, including the economic disaster, that we are now.

Could someone tell me what the objection is to wearing a mask? They honestly don't bother me in the least. I don't like wearing one when I work out. But that's about it. I've been told that I look better with a mask on! What's the big deal?

I think most of it is political. Since masks are now optional at the place where I work out, I don't wear one, but about half of the women are still wearing masks while they exercise. I still wear one when in a store because I live in an area where there are a lot of people who refuse to take the vaccine and I don't even want a mild case of COVID, nor do I want to accidentally give it to anyone else, not even some idiot who refuses to be vaccinated or wear a mask when in public.

My biggest concern are the medical professionals who are having to care for these fools. They were already overwhelmed before the vaccine. Now there's a vaccine that has a high rate of preventing COVID, but we have a large percentage of people, mostly younger people and Republicans who refuse to take the vaccine. It's both sad and dangerous that so many people believe nonsensical propaganda over science.

I don't mind them in cooler weather but in warmer, more humid months (like now), they are not nearly as comfortable. For people who must wear them all day because they need to wear them at work, it is even more annoying. And...some days, it just bothers me to have anything, including a stray hair from my own head touching my face. Mostly, I was able to deal with masks because I rarely went anyplace public where I would be spending time indoors.

Cotton is more comfortable than any other material I've found, but some of the masks that stand away from your face are pretty decent. Some people have trouble with rashes, acne, etc.

Where I live, the mask mandate is lifted and we have one of the higher rates of vaccination in the US--still pathetically low, but higher than a lot of places. Few people wear masks. I get looks when I wear one and at least one comment: well, if she had gotten her vaccination, she wouldn't need a mask....Of course, I took the very earliest opportunity to be vaccinated. But that is still part of the tacit deal: If you are fully vaccinated, you don't need to wear a mask....
