Covid-19 miscellany

In Louisiana, nearly 3500 children have been diagnosed with COVID19 in a 4 day span.

“Diagnosed”, lol. Tested positive maybe.

Same thing.

Why do complete medical novices think they know more than doctors?

A strange delusion this plague has exposed.

Many morons who do not trust doctors. Who trust politicians or strangers on facebook more.

Doctors are the people saving lives everyday.

You break your leg you will trust that doctor. You will beg that doctor to heal you.

This type of reply along with your earlier mention of Trump tells me your position is not based on" science or data" but on ideology.

I'm not always going to spoonfeed everything to you. But I'll help you here: kids 12 and under aren't medically cleared yet for the vaccine.

Well keep the special one isolated at home until immortality is achieved.

Bottom line for me here: you have the right to live your life as you wish. I guess that it is Darwin's rule at play. However, you don't have the right to spread danger to others or to harm others.

You say that like it’s a thing. Almost all restrictions have been lifted all over the country. Keep the special one at home. Most of us are getting on with life.

anyway, I went to a bar last night. First time in California since the pandemic hit and that insufferable prick Newsom shut everything down. The place was pretty busy inside and out. My group sat at a table outside but you had to go inside to buy beer. There’s a sign on the door that said wear a mask inside. None of the people inside at tables were wearing a mask although they did appear to have masks with them. I didn’t wear a mask and nobody said anything, mask wearing bar staff just served me. It was a good night.

As an aside, I've always wondered why so many don't like wearing a mask. It's an odd thing to get so upset about it. As a skier, I sometimes wear a mask all day, well before COVID. Never bothered me. I don't like wearing one while at the gym. But outside of that, I could care less. I think that many people today are just looking for something that whine about. Or am I missing something?

Who here thinks there should be ZERO medical exemptions for covid vaccinations for things like the NYC Pass?

I will say making sure that a person is not doctor shopping for a shyster doctor is important, but having a well run vaccine exemption panel with oversight might be needed.

If the panel approves 0% or 100% of exemption requests that can't be right.

Some hypochondriac will come in with no history, genetics or comprehensive blood work up that shows any signs of autoimmune issues. Sorry, no exemption for you.

Someone with multiple autoimmune red flags (AND a previous covid infection with antibodies) does the panel say go to hell?

As it currently stands the NYC pass will require one shot. If it will require two and the patient has a documented, bloodwork proven, (not a shyster doctors note) adverse reaction to the first shot, what about exemptions then?

. But outside of that, I could care less. I think that many people today are just looking for something that whine about. Or am I missing something?
Trump made Well-Done manly.

My entire life, manly men ate their steaks rare. Now, half my family crunches thru carbon cookies where beef used to be and declare it tasty.

Gourmet charcoal.

Ignoring or downplaying the peril of a globe-threatening pandemic is also the Trump Style of approach, now.

Weirdly, we're not in the First Act, where McCoy and Spock can't quite figure out how come crewmen are going mad. We're after the last commercial, where they've isolated the cause, developed a prophylactic, and given Kirk everything he needs to win the day (except an alien to punch in the throst). And people still insist it's better to be space mad than wear a goddamned rubber.

It is the culture of the right winged moron tribe. They have been trained by decades of Faux Noise and other media to always be outraged ... About something. Anything. Them. The Democrats, experts, pointed headed intellectuals, feminazis, elites, everybody that is not a ultra-conservative loony. People like Mike The Savage Weiner, Lush Rimjob, Glenny The Bunk and others have been building this culture of suspicion, outrage and idiocy for years. And now, here we are. That culture wags the politicians. Gregg Abbot, Ron DeSantis take their marching orders from the morons who have now move far beyond Faux and is now lead by QAnon pranksters. It is going to take years to detoxify the right.

It's very much the, "Well I made it home safely this time, so all the warnings about drink driving must be bullshit."

Got the news yesterday that our school district is requiring everyone wear a mask in the school buildings when school starts on August 30. Glad they decided that.

My last school-age kid, who will be a senior, is pissed at the no-vax people who made this necessary and glad that masks are required. I agree.

Meanwhile the children's hospitals in the south are reaching or have reached full capacity. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/07/health/us-coronavirus-saturday/index.html

As an aside, I've always wondered why so many don't like wearing a mask.

I totally get it, masks are aggravating as hell.

I have a beard, I've got to strap it on tight. And glasses, which the mask fogs up, especially in summer when I go into an air conditioned place. I just plain hate having anything block my breathing, nose or mouth.
I despise masking.

But it's the right thing to do as long as the risk of C19 transmission remains so high. So I've consistently done so for well over a year.

The fact that I put up with the inconvenience and discomfort for all this time, out of regard for people like my m-i-l and society at large, is largely why I get so testy with people who refuse!

Even now, completely vaccinated, I still do it sometimes. Call me a hardcore Prolifer if you must, but I do care about the health and well-being of other people.

There are people legitimately unable to take certain vaccines. That doesn't mean they can't take other vaccines, though.

You make it sound like imposing a mask mandate is only a minor abuse, like fondling the genitalia of the woman next to you on an airplane (if you're a successful reality TV star) or asking a black man to spread-eagle himself with hands behind his back if his tail-lights are dirty. But conservatives know that a mask mandate goes far beyond such trivia:

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said:
You know, we can look back in a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star. [Brody, a right-wing commentator, nodded in sage agreement.] And they were definitely treated like second-class citizens — so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany, and this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.

This isn't just Greene's point (she's not smart enough to think of it by herself), but is a comparison made by other top conservative politicians and pundits.

Today "patriot" = right wing nut.

They think all they have to do is call themselves patriots and they can try to violently turn over elections and ignore medical science.

It's not only the far right that is refusing the vaccine. It's common in many groups of younger people, regardless of their race or political leanings. Many of those who refuse to be vaccinated can't even give a reason. Some are just lazy. Some think they are young and healthy and don't believe the virus will infect them. It's just crazy. And, as a former professional nurse, it angers me when it comes to the horrific burden these folks have and are placing on the medical system. There are many medical professionals who are retiring early, or too burned out to remain in this field. It's awful.

My corporation has been slowly filtering people back to the buildings. That's paused in many locations.
Plus we need to wear masks even in our cubes. Only if alone in a closed office, or while eating or drinking can you take your mask off.

So, i need to go to Costco for a few of those 5-gallon barrels of cheese puffs. They don't specify 'while eating meals,' or anything....

I have been in the office about 6 times since 2009. No plans to pick up the pace. Not going until I know that everyone in the office is vaccinated. No need to go.
