Cricket... the game, not the insect

Pakistan outbowled New Zealand.

England utterly owned India in the second Semi. 10 wicket victory.

Final is at ... 3 fucking AM?! Bloody Australia.

I meant for me locally. Cricket in Australia sucks because the timing is awful. England isn't much better Test wise. I wake up in the morning and its lunch time!

This Sunday, I have a 5k with my daughter, so we need to do that... in 25 degree (F) wind chill... then get home and watch final as I thaw out.

It's truly bizarre that the ICC would design their schedules without prioritising the vast US audience who are clamouring for more cricket. ;)

Or as they are American, they are presumably clamoring.

As I understand it, 25°F is about -4°C, which is a temperature that can only be achieved with mechanical refrigeration; And a 5k is some sort of US tax exempt pension fund (or is that a 249miles?).

The US is weird with how we'll accept metric for running distances and soda quantities (not milk though!), but that is about it. But we will do that!

Back to the ICC and US... we are hosting the T20 World Cup along with West Indies in 2024. I think the US has one ICC approved site. And roughly zero actual proper Cricket stadiums, where more than 50 people can attend in seats. So, the timing will be great for me... I mean, actually attending could be hard, because there are like no stadiums to attend a game, but you know... whatever.

There is a group that wants to do a Major League Cricket in the US, big Cricket money. And with Cricket being a cheap ass sport, it'd be easy to buy the best players in the world. But again... where in the heck would they play? Football stadiums where the leg side boundaries are < 40 meters?

T20 Final. Pakistan held to a modest sum. England's bats opened as per the semi-final, but then Pakistan regained control. An injury to Shaheen Afridi, however, sucked the life out of England... and without Afridi, Pakistan were short a pacer. And that was effectively the difference. Had Afridi not gotten injured, Pakistan could have won. But he did get hurt, desperately tried to bowl afterwards, but clearly that wasn't going to work out... and England are kings of white ball cricket, having held the ODI and T20 titles at the same time.

Do you septics not have recording devcies?

And the rain in Melbourne held off for the final. I could have got a ticket but T20 does nothing for me. I don't even watch it on TV. Hit & Giggle.
I was sitting in church as 11am looking at the sun but the rain clouds were coming in from the west. Thinking I'll bet the ICC wished they had started the match at 11am (traditional cricket start time) or even 2pm.

They do... and DVR is better, because I can only take so many Persian commercials for marriage arrangement apps and some psychic/numerology quack... and Indian cuisine... lots and lots of Indian cuisine commercials.

The Windies are in Australia and the first test is next week. Looking forward to that I am.

I can remember the 80s, 90s when the Windies ruled the cricket world like a colossi . Don't necessarily wish them to do that again but it would be good to see them do better.

West Indies seem to be transitioning to a squad with a good deal less talent. I’m uncertain if T20 is responsible or they are simply getting depleted.

Pakistan v England, Aussies v Windies, Test Cricket is back.

They are depleted. College basketball and other sports in US pay far better than crickets in the Windies.

Aussies dispatch West Indies. So comfortable manning the bats, it seemed like they needlessly let Smith get a double century and provide Warne an opportunity to get a century himself.

England and Pakistan seemed to be playing on a pitch designed for batting practice, as they combined a first innings total of 1236 runs! 4 of the first five England batters got centuries. Stokes was sent off quickly after 18 balls, but managed 41 runs! 3 of Pakistan's first 4 batters had centuries as well. Bowlers could be seen hanging themselves in the rafters rather than bowl anymore on a pitch that was less reactive than a noble gas. Yeah... I went there.

England managed a late night miracle, by bowling out Pakistan after declaring with four sessions left to win the first test. The decision making for England since the coaching changes has been aggressive and effective.

I was working yesterday, so I hadn't seen the test scores until just now.

Just before lunch on day 2 at the Gabba, and both sides have been bowled out - SA made just 152, and Australia 218 in reply.

SA are now 3/5 in their second innings. Yes, five.

This could be a two day test. The short forms of the game, particularly single ball megachuck death blast 20/20, have left all the top order batsmen with no respect for the value of their wickets, trying to score at five or six runs an over, which is just crazy in a four day test.

Travis Head put on a respectable 92 in Australia's first innings, but he faced just 96 deliveries to reach that total. That's very much a limited overs run rate - until very recently such an innings would have been very unusual (and frowned upon by teammates and coaches for being risky showing off) in a test match.
