Election Day In Alabama

Moore lost. Don't you think it's high time to stop pretending that he is a "pedophile" now. It served its purpose. You can drop it now.

Or alternatively, look up the word. It does not mean what you think it means.

It's sounds like he's calling for at least an assassination attempt against Jones.

Or maybe he understands that Jones only won the balance of Sessions' term and not a whole six year term. He'll be up for reelection in 2020.

I wouldn't consider 2020 to be a "very short period of time". At least not in political terms.

What's your definition of "very short period of time"?

I don’t know to what extent Charles Barkley got the black vote out (the guy’s an asshole) but if prominent sports figures can get folks to the polls next year, I’d love to see them out together standing against Trump et al.
I was curious, so I looked up some stats.

2016 General Election - Alabama (Trump 63% v Clinton 35%)
71% White (57% to 37% for Trump)
12% black (89% to 8% for Clinton)
11% latino
4% asian

2017 Special Election (Jones 49+ v Moore 48+)
66% White (68 to 30 for Moore)
29% black (96 to 4 for Jones)

I'll let put your eyes back in the sockets. The demographics had a massive change.

In 2012, the turnout was similar to the special election. The main difference was that most whites voted for Romney.

2012 General Election (Romney 61 v Obama 38)
68% White (84 to 15 for Romney)
28% black (95 to 4 for Obama)

So what does this tell us? That a lot of white people (relatively speaking) didn't support Moore. It dropped from 84% to 68%, which is substantial, when nearly every black vote goes to the Democrat in this Special Election. If looking to the youth for the Democrat future in Alabama, don't expect it, the breakdowns were about the same in 2012 and 2017.

The utmost head scratcher is that a lot more white women voted for Moore (+23%) than Trump (+9%).

Long story short, the Democrats have a shot at beating a woman molesting man running for Senator in a special election. If I was Jones, maybe think about running for Governor instead.

This means Republicans need to try to understand and reach out better to black voters and figure out why they lost their vote so much worse this time. Maybe it was because of all the white identity politics by their slavery promoting candidate and white supremacist president pushed them away from their party. A lot of self reflection is in order.

So white people are pedophiles because white people are in denial?

Did your mother teach you to deny pedophilia like that? I'm trying to figure out what white mothers are doing wrong to turn white people into pedophile supporters like you.

Supporters of pedophiles?

Or pedophiles who are supporters?

When monkeys fly out of their butts. And those monkeys will be far more capable of self-reflection.

Take your pick. I just want to understand what white mothers are doing wrong to raise white people to be such horrible people. Do you think it's because they don't spank enough? Maybe Derec's mommie didn't spank him when he was bad, and that's why he doesn't understand that pedophilia is a bad thing?

One, because the word is being misused, and two, so many voted for and supported Moore because of stupid religion.

Probably one point is that Moore is a lot more believable at being religious and against abortion than Trump.

People use the word "pedophilia" as both a broad term covering narrower pedophilia and also hebephilia. People also use it just in a narrow age range. It's a valid way to use the term and one can tell which way it is being used from context. This usage exists and has existed for decades independent of the world of politics. Now stop being triggered by word usage. Unless you yourself like teenage girls, there is no reason you should have a vested interest in this understandable way that the word is used. OR you are the one being political, pretending you are not being so, perhaps even projecting your pretense onto others. Who knows. Who can honestly get into your head without you poopooing and jumping up and down with your anti-social accusatory posts.

Anyhoo, let's get back to the thread topic. Moore lost. That he lost by such a small margin says something about the people of Alabama. They have a warped view of politics in order for them to make election so close. Warped view of politics is because of misinformation about a lot of things, including even things outside politics such as race, religion, sex, etc. Inside politics: what's left? Economics?

Republicans clearly vote against their own interest but in Alabama they do it more.
It's the Bible belt, so the Bible is going to do a lot of their thinking and talking for them.

Since 72% of white men and 63% of white women voted for a pedophile, I'm sure that those fine Southern people will immediately pass laws banning white people from using public restrooms. After all, they can't possibly be a bunch of screaming hypocrites, can they? I'm sure we'll see that law any day now.

It's routinely used, albeit incorrectly, to refer to those who want sex with those who are underage, period. You can fight a crusade against the misuse of the term if you want but it's not being done to distort things here.

And you don't necessarily know that. Not everyone hits puberty at the same time and although 14 is on the older end of the scale, it's NOT out of the 'normal' range. So yes, that scumbag can be called a pedophile legitimately.

No one here said you can't call Moore a pedophile. Anyone can also say that he can't ride a horse correctly.

Did I miss some context (I don't see Derec's posts) or is he upset about a pedophile being called a pedophile? That's hilarious.
I could understand it if he was railing against calling a whoremonger a whoremonger, but just ... WUT?
Could it be that his problem is that last night's upset was about common decency, rather than a smear campaign of the sort that Rethuglicans like to wage against anyone who threatens their financial interest, e.g. Robert Mueller?

This will allow Judge Roy Moore to retire from politics so he can spend more time with other peoples' children.

Just not at the mall.

We'll stop using the line when it stops being funny.

In other words, we're not going to stop using the line any time soon.

The sad part of this is, if the candidate had been someone who held the same ideology and policies as Moore, but did not have the baggage of being a dirty old man, that candidate would have won. Jones did not win so much as Moore lost. Not to say Jones did not do his campaign well, he got the turn out the vote effort effort done very well, and he had a lot of money behind him, but in the end, it was the #Metoo effort that sank Moore.

What I want to see is if the next governor's race will make the latest UN report on the third world conditions of rural Alabama into an issue and run against decades of Red State GOP neglect and do-nothingism. Alabama is not a well run state that Alabaman's can be proud of.

My thoughts exactly. Democrat Jones is almost certainly a one term senator. And this term is not full I understand. Nothing has really changed. it's a fluke, a dumb luck and it's temporary dumb luck.
This isn't Jeffords changing parties huge, but is 't insignificant either. Senate majority is just 1 seat now. Trump's approval
in Alabama is relatively awful at just 49%.
Just thinking what if Senator Jeff Flake changed parties and ran as a Democrat. Group's blood pressure would go though the roof

If you don't like the word pedophile to apply to what Moore is accused of doing to the 14 year old girl what about "child molester?" Does this soothe your abnormally heightened sense of logophile precision?

Pedophilia is a mental illness, the sexual obsession with children. The crime that active pedophiles most often commit is child molestion.

(This was a reply to Derec. Somehow I missed getting his post quoted in mine and I am just disinterested enough to not look for it. I mainly wrote it to see if anyone would catch the joke of using ten dollar words to accuse someone of being a logophile which I believe means a lover of words.)

It's a conspiracy! It's a conspiracy and George Soros is behind the whole thing! That's the only possible explanation for a pedophile losing an election!!!!!! [/Conservolibertarian]

Your endorsement failed to convince libertarians to vote for your guy Moore. Now that the election is over you can stop campaigning for him.

I know you were upset, you were hoping his election would normalize pedophilia.

Oh, come on! They did reach out the best they could. They told the electorate, "hey look, we're not racist. We have a Jew lawyer and a black."

They stuck to the normal Republican spew of "If you're tired of how the Democrats mess up government, then give our ways of messing it up a try."
