So, the FAA closed down the airport on Monday night and said it'd be closed for 10 days.
article said:
The “NOTAM” notice issued by the FAA had stated that the agency considers the area national defense airspace and that pilots who do not adhere to the procedure “may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by law enforcement.”
WashPo isn't covering this as much as the NY Times is as an airspace closure is very uncommon.

Trump Admin is says drug cartel drones were the issue.
NY Times said:
Sean Duffy, the Secretary of Transportation, said Mexican cartel drones breached U.S. airspace, prompting the temporary closure of airspace over El Paso.
Another source says it was anti drone test.
NY Times said:
Another person familiar with the situation had described the cause of the shutdown as a test of anti-drone technology. It is unclear if the closure was directly related to the presence of drones or how the technology was deployed.

Congress was informed of something, but that something isn't what the Admin is stating.
NY Times said:
Representative Veronica Escobar, an El Paso Democrat, said in a news conference that the explanation citing Mexican drones crossing the border as the reason for the closure was “not the information that we in Congress have been told.” She said that there was no current or past threat to the area. “There’s no threat. There was not a threat, which is why the F.A.A. lifted this restriction so quickly,” she said. “The information coming from the administration does not add up.”

FAA has since canceled the closure.

This could be as simple as the US was testing something new and the people running the Administration are so stupid and incompetent they didn't think to coordinate with El Paso (or test in a remote region!). Or maybe aliens crash landed near El Paso. Maybe something in between. It is hard to tell was is nefarious and what is incompetence with the Trump Admin.

It is sad that in the grand scheme of all of the Trump administration scandals that this merits just a yawn...

This administration absolutely oozes competence.
Oh well … it oozes SOMETHING.

I would think there is an intelligent alien flying a saucer than there is intelligence in the president

I may have mentioned it before, but I used to live in El Paso back in the mid 90s. Before I moved to El Paso, I lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico...about a 45 minute drive away. You know what's just up the road from Cruces?

White Sands Missile Range. They used to shut down a certain highway on occasion because they were launching...well...missiles at WSMR (pronounced "Wizmer") and you could see the launches streaking across the sky. It was kinda cool. Go a little further north and you hit Holloman AFB, where the F117 Stealth fighters were based. El Paso is also the home of Ft. Bliss. This entire area has been one of the most carefully controlled airspaces in the country, and I never had a flight delayed out of El Paso for anything.

What I'm saying is that shutting down the entire airspace doesn't exactly add up here. I even brought it up today at work with a co-worker who used to be an air traffic controller there. This whole thing stinks to high (non-existent) heaven.

I have been on the team at White Sands for five of these rocket launches, and witnessed about three or four more other mission's launches while there, as well as a test of the Orion Crew Escape Vehicle (CEV) back in 2010. They did indeed shut down that highway and we had a specific window of opportunity to launch before they had to open up the road again. And you mentioned Holloman (I'd seen a couple of F117s fly around there), we would get picked up in helicopters flying out of Holloman to go and pick up our payloads the morning after the launch. Fun times flying in a Huey with the doors open over the white sands of the monument on the way up range. Good memories from back in the day... ahh...

I've read that Pete Hegseth may be worried about job security. (He's so stupid that POTUS notices the stupidity, and that's a low bar.) Perhaps Hegseth was showing off for the Orange Fuhrer, demonstrating that he could shut down a large airspace with one phone call.

Apparently it was a party balloon.

What sort of "party" launches an attack against a Missile Range? Have they identified the child that launched the attack balloon? Cause for deportation? Perhaps an Executive Order is needed to prevent Spanish speakers and other aliens from owning or deploying these weapons.

Given the proximity to the border, it seems likely that the attack balloon originated in Mexico; Right now the wind at El Paso airport is from the South.

A full scale invasion across the Rio Grande by the US Army seems like the only reasonable response.

We are going to finish what President Polk started.

The pentagon gave DHS … a laser weapon. And like a five year old with a hammer who thinks everything is a nail, DHS fired it at a Mylar party balloon. Shutting down the air space was an excellent idea.
