I'm not sure where this thread will go. For now I'll just try to explain the title.

I am particularly susceptible to female pulchritude, but don't want to restrict discussion. Discussion needn't even be limited to beautiful humans. Here are seven words defined as "extreme beauty" and none specify that the beautiful creature need be human:
  • Breathtaking: So beautiful it takes your breath away.
  • Gorgeous: Extremely beautiful or attractive.
  • Stunning: Extremely impressive or attractive.
  • Magnificent: Grand and beautiful.
  • Radiant: Glowing with beauty.
  • Exquisite: Extremely beautiful and delicate.
  • Pulchritudinous: Having great physical beauty.
In my particular case I find a majority of women between the ages of 18 and 45 to be very beautiful, so "extreme beauty" need not be rare. All seven of the above words are "neutral", promising little more than physical beauty. Words like "glamour" (etymology related to "magic") and "allure" may detour us into the realm of fetish, so let's skip that initially. ("Allure" means "the power to entice" which my favorite dictionary elucidates with the example sentence "I enticed the little bear into the trap with a pot of honey.") (In the video linked below, women prance to the lyrics "They lining up And they lining up And they lining up for a taste" which seem almost obscene to my sensitive 20th-century ears.)

Beyond morning make-up etc., millions of women achieve extreme beauty almost inadvertantly, with male attention often not even welcome. Out of politeness I generally avert my gaze from the dozens of beautiful women who come into my view every day.

I've been to the Grand Canyon. It looked much like it does in the movies and we drove away after a short while. I've been to the Louvre so I suppose I saw the Mona Lisa. No memory of it though. I don't think I'm alone in saying that women please my eyes above all else.

Frangipani trees are ubiquitous in Thailand and their flowers are beautiful; in Thai the word is /lii-laa-wá-dii/. But the most beautiful such flower is the one a certain young lady wears in her hair. She's happy to hear my nickname for her -- Princess Liilawadii -- though AFAIK that nickname hasn't caught on among her other friends.

I do NOT "undress women with my eyes." In fact I generally find naked women unattractive (though tight-fitting clothes can be OK). I almost NEVER fantasize about having sex with a woman (which at my age would be almost impossible anyway). I just like their looks, and often their personality, or even just the sound of their voice.

Although most women are beautiful, some are completely "off the charts." The Miss Grand International contest was held in Thailand recently and I made a point of watching the "swimsuit competition." But perhaps none were as spectacular as a runner-up in the Miss Grand Thailand contest some months ago. For 35 seconds watch Miss Grand Lamphun walk around the stage. At 5'8" tall and a 35-26-40 hourglass, she MIGHT hold some sort of record! I'm not ashamed to admit I set Playback Speed to 0.5 and enjoyed her for 70 seconds. (Is there some special gymnastic skill needed to walk the way these beauties do?)

Well, in this opening post I confess that I find women beautiful. I hope that doesn't bring condemnations of misogyny or homophobia. Fetish? Yes, I can live with that label.
 
I get what you're saying, though now that I'm in my '60's, I'm less interested in such things. The main problem with exceptional female beauty is the higher percentage of crazy that goes with it. Look up the hot/crazy matrix. They're usually not worth the trouble in the long run. My little brother, a pretty average schlub, married a former beauty queen contestant back when he was young, dumb and horny. The family initially was kinda wondering how he pulled that off. It didn't take long to see how that happened. It was a short marraige and 30 years later, he still regales us with his horror stories being married to her.
 
I've had a few relationships that combined Hot with Crazy, but the truth is that I was often the Crazier partner. That may even include my relationship with an OCD sufferer who owed a high six-figure sum to her psychiatrist.

But that's not what the thread is about. I admire women's looks often with no thought whatsoever of approaching them. Since reproduction or even sex is not a goal, it intrigues me that nature or nurture has evolved me to focus on this specific form of beauty. It fascinates me that evolution led to remarkable machinery like the ribosome, and the same wonders of natural selection somehow directed me -- and many other men -- to fascination with the shape of a human female.

It's not often but sometimes I experiment with the Playback Speed on a video. For example I found that the horridly boring TV series 24 became a fun thriller when played at 1.75X or even 2X speed.

And I DO advise you to follow my advice and watch Miss Grand Lamphun strut at 0.5X playback speed! She looks astoundingly beautiful and even at that speed her walking is FAST and natural-looking. I literally wonder if the televisors present the walks at double speed to fit their schedule!

Beauty queens are often not exactly beautiful, especially if you take away the makeup, push up bras, correcting and hair extensions. Especially if you look inside at the actual person, who often were pushed and prodded into the whole beauty queen thing, have come to be extremely insecure and have not had the opportunity to develop their actual personality. It’s made worse because too many people are drawn to the exterior and do not care to know a thing about the ‘real’ person. Because inside even the most vacuous, shallow seeming beauty queen is a real, live person who has wishes, hopes and dreams—and get this: actual thoughts! And feelings! inside, although both may have been pushed down so deep even they have trouble accessing them. Because what is genuine about them is never seen, never valued, never appreciated. It becomes a feedback/negative feedback loop.

I’ve known a guy or two who most definitely fit the high school version: very handsome, charming, good athlete, smart and good student ( last optional). True Golden boys. They don’t usually fair terribly well in the real world, either. But better than beauty queens. . Male intelligence and ambition are appreciated and the assumption is always that indeed, he will be a good ( fill in the blank) and do well for himself.

Beauty queens have a very short shelf life and are expected to marry well. Some do. Some marry some pretty awful guys because, deep down, some beauty queens think they are ugly or at least so shallow that no one cares about them vs their looks. That’s all that is nurtured: their physical attributes and the rest is often overlooked, under appreciated and too often underdeveloped.

The male and female versions tend to find each other, and make each other miserable.
I learned that in 7th grade. That year I went to small private school in Montecito CA full of snot nosed upper crust brats from billionaire families …
“The parents” were of a type, which over the course of the year and two summers, impressed me with their evident dissatisfaction with … everything.
But all so good looking.
I learned a lot that year.
 
We should reflect on the words to the great Philosopher, Mendacious of Bogusia, "Whenever you see a supermodel grade beautiful woman, somewhere there is a man who is sick of her shit."

I'm sure there is a corollary which applies to romance novel cover grade men.

I used to employ a lot of young women and I think all them could be classified as "Very attractive," which is not that difficult in the 19 to 25 year age group. What surprised me was most of them felt insecure about their looks. One of them was a theater major and she told me she was concentrating on production and craft's trades instead of acting because the wasn't pretty enough for leading roles and would always be a "character" actor. I was shocked to hear this. She is now in the Pacific Northwest where she is Manager for a theater that operates all year round.

I think most people in that age group, men or women, rate themselves lower on the attractiveness scale than would any casual observer.

I'm wondering if the great philosopher "Mendacious of Bogusia" is figment of your imagination. I wasn't familiar with MoB, so I googled that name, and the first hit was a video of you fixing a chair and referencing him in the video description with a different quote. There were a few more hits (up to about one page's worth), but nothing really relevent. Except for the last hit which was you referencing a MoB quote on this forum last month. Assuming he was a real person, I got the sense that he would be some old timey philosopher from centuries ago, but the term supermodel didn't really enter the popular lexicon until the 1960's. Something is fishy here.

That basic quote is quite well known, however.

There is rarely a subject where Mendacious did not make a pertinent observation, mainly because he was a shameless plagiarizer.
 
I share your fascination, Swammi, and I agree that almost any twenty something looks beautiful to me. I am definitely of an age when it's "look but don't touch". When I see out my window a young lady walking her dog I generally look at the dog as much as at her. We have some mighty handsome Boxers in the neighborhood. On the other hand, our Chiweeny is more "cute" than beautiful, but she is super cute!

As for Mendacious, he is a very popular philosopher among politicians. There's a whole school of mendacious politics, led by an orange headed fellow who shall remain nameless.
