In every place I’ve worked, people play politics. I’m not talking Dem v GOP.

He took the fifth on the advice of his lawyers who know that he’s Written thousands of pages of reports and have give many many hours of testimony and that should he say something even a tiny bit differently now, he will be accused of lying.

The fact is that over time, a scientist’s understanding of things, particularly emerging diseases and health concerns and treatment and prevention changes as more information is known.

The only purpose of the GOP to behave this way is to try to remind the people of COVID while ignoring the fact that Trump publicly pushed blame and quack remedies and spread COVID himself and privately took the vaccinations the instant they were available and got state of the art treatment when he needed it, unlike the millions who were infected because of his mishandling of the pandemic. Trump is a mass murderer.

Thanks to Trump and the right-wing (and loonies on the left-wing) many don't believe there was a pandemic that killed over one million Americans, and it happened right in front of them.

Curious, why, 6 years after the pandemic started, is Rand Paul having a hearing at all?

There wasn't anything new that came out other than diary notes which aren't in conflict with what we already knew. We already knew that there was an initial suspicion that the virus was created, and that was investigated (at Fauci's urging). However, after the investigation, the consensus had swapped. We've seen those communications already.

So if there is nothing new here, why the hearing? Paul was trying to entrap Fauci.

No it wasn't. A few other people may have spoken a bit looser, but Fauci's statements were about as tight as statements can be.

Not relevant. What is relevant is why Fauci was being brought before Congress, years after the pandemic... with nothing new disclosed about his role in it. This was an attempt to entrap Fauci. Paul is using a pandemic that killed over one million Americans as political fodder. It is vile.

Look at it this way. If Fauci was guilty of something, the DoJ could press charges on it. Paul doesn't need Fauci to admit to breaking the law to charge him with breaking the law. Instead of Paul pushing for charges on Fauci's actions, Paul had to resort to entrapment and attempting to get Fauci to stumble up on testimony that would be in contradiction of other testimony over the past several years.

If Fauci is so guilty, why is Paul only trying to get him charged with Contempt?
 
Entirely true. My point is that posters are assuming that Fauci did something wrong on the basis of his 5th. I'm pointing out that he is protecting himself and probably a bunch of other people from vicious lawfare from the teaparty Christian administration.

That's hardly fair. It's not the ONLY purpose; They also want to ensure that people aren't talking about Epstein.

Paul is frustrated because he asked Fauci questions about the origins of the virus during the pandemic and knew he was lying then. Biden must have also secretly known this as well. Or he would not have pardoned Fauci for crimes that were not even charged yet.

Yes, this could just be lawfare. But when the public trust is at stake they should go forward to learn the truth if it is possible to do so. Let the truth tell us that Paul was wrong and Fauci was right. But Fauci pleading the 5th proves nothing except Fauci is a pussy. And does nothing to reveal the truth letting it look like Paul was originally correct.

The combination of a pardon and pleading the 5th looks extremely troubling for Fauci.

Paul knew that who was lying? I knew that Trump was lying at the time. You are claiming that Paul knew more about the situation than Fauci did, apparently. What possible reason could you have for that claim?

Clearly someone was lying. Either Fauci or Paul. Lets finally learn the truth.......oh except we can't now because one of the main characters wants to plead the 5th.

We have two possibilities here. One is a top scientist trying to protect the people. The other is a politician trying to score points with the least moral administration that the US has ever had.

Unless you are trying to further a political agenda .
