Scott Pelley speaks with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and the prosecutorial team that convicted Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.
...
Scott Pelley: Why would this officer assault George Floyd?
Keith Ellison: Well, that's a question we spent a lotta time asking ourselves. And all we could come up with is what we could divine from his body language and his demeanor. And what we saw is that the crowd was demanding that he get up. And then he was staring right back at them defiantly. "You don't tell me what to do. I do what I wanna do. You people have no control over me. I'm going to show you."
...
Scott Pelley: Why would Derek Chauvin commit murder or even assault if he knew he was being recorded.
Keith Ellison: I think that if he looks at history, he has every reason to believe that he would never be held accountable. There's never been anyone in Minnesota convicted-- any police officer convicted of second-degree murder in the history of our state. So this was precedent setting in that way. So history was on his side.
So...
There's this facebook group called LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR LIFE. It's got hundreds of thousands of members. Police and family members. The rules of the group are not to be political but most of it is and only liberals get called on the rule, then banned. During the election, they promoted conspiracy theories and even violence. They hate BLM. There are extremists there who do not get called out, oathkeepers, 3 percenters, and people who have referred to BLM protestors as speed bumps.
I have brought up the facebook group because of how they talk about George Floyd. Here's the latest:

You should look at what we're up against.
So at least one juror did not base his verdict on outside events. But Mitchell, a 31-year-old basketball coach at North Community High School in Minneapolis, said he and the other 11 jurors didn't watch the news during the trial or deliberations, so they weren't aware of the racial climate or protests going on outside.
"I mean, those things are just so secondary because you're literally, throughout the trial, watching somebody die on a daily basis, so that stress alone is enough to take your mind away from whatever's going on outside of the four walls of the courtroom," he added.
Or so he claims. But it would be impossible to entirely put away the months of violence and chaos in Minneapolis during the #BLM riots. The jurors have been affected by that, at the very least subconsciously. So at least one juror did not base his verdict on outside events.
The reason #BLM exists is because there are many anti-police, pro-thug extremists in the US.And when you read it, you see EXACTLY why BLM needs to exist.

That is bullshit. #BLM always take the side of the thugs. I have never seen #BLM march because a 7 year old was killed in a gangland drive by, or because an 8 year old was murdered during an illegal armed occupation of a city block by black extremists. The reason BLM exists and why decent people feel the need to remind people that black lives matter is that too often, in our country, black people are treated as though their lives do not matter.
I disagree. #BLM is the spiritual ancestor of Black Panthers and other left-wing black extremist groups. That's why they love cop-killer Joanne Chesimard so much.Happens right here on this forum, happens in the streets, in schools, stores, classrooms, everywhere.

But an armed, violent thug gets shot by police right after shooting two other people? Then it's all "justice for Pat Pat" and similar nonsense.

Since you didn't get the memo, BLM's job is to address police brutality, last I recall a bunch of thugs killing each other on the streets are not cops. Maybe you need to take the black-on-black crime situation up with the National Urban League. Gosh.

Maybe white peoples need to address the white on white crime before they start pointing fingers.

The standard is for the accused to be tried by a jury of his/her peers, not a jury of emotionless computers who make decisions based purely on facts and logic. If you don't want to contaminate and piss off potential members of your jury pool, don't murder one of their members in a public place in front of witnesses.
Pluse the argument that "it must have happened subconsciously' is equivalent to saying "God ordained it" or "the Devil made them do it" because there is no way to ascertain it factually.Or so he claims. Derec's responses reflects more about his psyche and worldview that it does about any of the jurors or the jury as a whole.
But what about subconscious of those hypothetical people? Surely they would be affected one way or the other about the human and property damage from such a burning. Taken literally, there is no one on this planet who is not open to the "what about the subconscious effect" position.Pluse the argument that "it must have happened subconsciously' is equivalent to saying "God ordained it" or "the Devil made them do it" because there is no way to ascertain it factually. The standard is for the accused to be tried by a jury of his/her peers, not a jury of emotionless computers who make decisions based purely on facts and logic. I think what Derec is saying is that the jury should have been pulled from people who don’t care whether Minneapolis burns or not.
Maybe white peoples need to address the white on white crime before they start pointing fingers.
Word up brotha! Where is the National Rural League? Seems like black people are trying to improve our condition, while the yeehaws are allowed to fester to the point our capital was attacked.
