I'm tired of these politicians playing "Chicken" with government funding.
"I'll tell you what, I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck," Trump told the top Senate Democrat. "So, I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it."
...
"I don't mind having the issue of border security on my side. If we have to shut down the country over border security, I actually like that," Trump said, even as he characterized his meeting with Schumer and Pelosi as "friendly." "It's something the country needs. It's common sense. The country needs it."
Schumer: Trump's 'temper tantrum' over wall funding is leading to shutdown (Dec 16)
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” just five days before funding deadline to keep several key federal agencies open, Schumer, D-N.Y., said that he and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., are standing firm in their offers to Trump and that it’s up to the president to come to the table.
"We Democrats, Leader Pelosi and I, offered the president two options as to how to avoid the shutdown,” he said.
“We should not let a temper tantrum, threats, push us in the direction of doing something even our Republicans colleagues know is wrong."
In reversal, White House shifts border wall funding demands - CNNPolitics (Dec 18)
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders suggested Tuesday that the White House has found an alternative way to get its requested $5 billion in funding for a US-Mexico border wall, marking a reversal from President Donald Trump's previous position.
McConnell announces stopgap funding bill to avert shutdown - ABC News (Dec 19)
"Later this morning, we’ll introduce a continuing resolution that will ensure continuous funding for the federal government. The measure will provide the resources necessary to continue normal operations through February 8th," McConnell said on the Senate floor.

But McConnell's announcement also came with a dig at his colleagues across the aisle.
“I’m sorry that my Democratic colleagues couldn’t put partisanship aside and show the same good-faith flexibility that the President has shown in order to provide the resources our nation needs to secure the integrity of our borders and the safety of American families," McConnell said. "But this seems to be the reality of our political moment. It seems like political spite for the president may be winning out over sensible policy -- even sensible policies that are more modest than border security allocations which many Democrats supported themselves, in the recent past."
