How should west respond to potential (likely) Russian invasion of Ukraine?

In other news, Ikea is getting back to Russia, reversing their March decision to leave Russia, claiming they were not really saying they were leaving.
Coca-Cola is staying as well, just changing the name (to something in russian ) of their poison :) So much for war on russian language. Speaking of which, these ukrainian refugees in Europe, Europeans were so nice that they started schools for their children, guess what language they use there? :) Please, guess it.
Hint, that will not make ukro-nazi happy.

I googled to see if Ikea and Coke were returning to Russia. Didn't find anything. I'd boycott any western company moving back to Russia. Not going to support imperialism. I hear that there are job openings at Gazprom now!

Another Oligarch who expressed sympathy for Ukraine fell out of a window and was killed. Again, nothing mysterious about these unusual deaths among Putin's detractors.

Move along.
I can't help but think that of all of the Russian oligarchs get killed off, there's going to be nobody left to actually run the day-to-day, not even as kleptocrats.
Stalin eliminated the educated middle class who could have made the economy work. Result economc failure and famines.

Chines communist eliminated the same in the Cultural Revolution. Result economic failure and famine.
Disagree--China didn't eliminate them so much as send them to the countryside.
Countryside aka re-education camps aka gulags.

The Cultural Revolution was violent.

Seen elsewhere...
I once was a darling of Vladimir's nation,
My profit and fortune the government's gain.

Our secret accounts felt the thrill of inflation,
As long as the pipelines were filled with propane.

My status and power befitted my station,
An armored Mercedes, a seat on the plane.

I learned a new word today: defenestration!
For when Vlad has a headache we all feel the pane.

Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Russia’s Chechen region, said on Telegram on September 3 that he deserves to take an “indefinite and long” break from his post, sparking speculation about whether he was seriously considering stepping down or seeking some favor from the Kremlin.

Kadyrov, 45, has ruled Chechnya with an iron fist since 2007 and is the longest-serving leader of a Russian region.

“I realized that I have been sitting in my position for a long time,” he said in a video statement peppered with laughs. “I think my time has come [to leave power]."

It is unclear what Kadyrov, who is one the most powerful figures in Russia, would do next if he were to step down.

Did you hear the joke about the Russian soldier? He had just looted a Ukrainian pensioner's house and was on his way to rape some girls when a US supplied HIMARS rocket detonated near him. It blew his entire left side off. When he was taken to the hospital the Russian doctor called his parents and told them not to worry because he was "all right".

The latest word about the war is that Ukraine has started to counterattack near Kherson. But so far, Ukraine has not gotten very far.

You don't understand what's happening--those aren't the same companies. Russia is taking over the facilities and operating them like the originals, but without access to the authentic supply chain.

The Cultural Revolution was violent.

Most of the deaths were mismanagement, not violence.

And my wife lived through it. Countryside, yes; reeducation, no; gulag no. It was simply about reducing the "elite" to the status of commoners. Never mind that "elite" mostly was simply people with the skill to make things work. (Reality: You ended up with interns in the OR because the doctors were "elites" and sent to the countryside.)

So, New Coke. I remember how that went over.

Russia is selling the LNG at a huge discount under market value, but China can't use all of what Russia needs to sell. So it sends the excess off to Europe with a middleman markup, making a profit for itself. Therefore, Russia is still selling gas to Europe, and Europe is still buying it from Russia. China is a retailer for them, but it can't move at the volume it does through a pipeline direct to Europe. Not an ideal situation for Russia or Europe, but that's the way it will be. Europe will stockpile as much of the LNG as it can in preparation for winter.

LOL. Reminds me of a case from the UK back in the '80s, wherein a local mobster "fell" from a parking structure to his death.

The coroner was reported to have declined to assign the cause as suicide, on the grounds that the deceased had apparently stabbed himself in the chest several times immediately before his fall.
Too much warm beer will do that to you.

WithUkraine 24/7 on Twitter: "🇺🇦 On September 4, the national flag flew in liberated Vysokopillya in #Kherson Oblast - Deputy Head of the Office of the President of #Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko.
This village had been under occupation for about six months. (pic link)" / Twitter

Showing a soldier putting a Ukrainian flag on some utility pole on top of some building.

Like  Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima - a famous picture from WWII of some soldiers raising a US flag on a mountain in that island.

Or  Raising a Flag over the Reichstag - another one from WWII of a soldier raising a Soviet flag on the Reichstag building in Berlin.
