They did. The U.S. trained the Ukranian in Western military organization. The old Soviet era ways don't work.

Bullshit again. UN was there too and they promised resumption of import of russian fertilizers in exchange for allowing passage of ukrainian grain. Turkey (as the main beneficiary of the grain deal) were supposed to see that Ukraine does not use this for weapons smuggling.
As for Ukraine, they were supposed to behave, and they did not. And now they pay.

Well, this is the reason why long term, Russia will lose. They have zero soft power. The west can just kinda live the life of a capitalist democratic state and just lead by example. Ukraine sees that, and declares that they want western ties. To Russia, this soft power created a coup! But Russia has to invade with 300,000 troops to try to impose their will, and Ukraine tells them to fuck off.

First of all, Ukrainian is less useful than russian in ukraine, even after years of attempts to ban it. Learning ukrainian instead of russian would be dumb.
