As to your clam Russia in the 80s brought processes for Intel. Companies like Intel never sell directly to customers, you buy from third party distributors.
More lkey Russia set up dummy companies and got the parts from European distributes. A common way to get around export restrictions.

We had a communist on our city council who was reelected for years and did not run in the last election. She said she wants to tear down our system and replace it with 'true democracy' without any specifics.

Politically we have a constitutional democratic republic. Our economic system is based on free market capitalism with minimal control by government. Private ownership. In the end the people determine what and how much gets produced by how they choose to spend their money. Supply and demand.
The opposite of Soviet and Chinese communism, both of which failed.

Well, if Russia withdraws from stolen Ukranian land. I for one would recommend that we authorize the mighty Leopard Lodge No 462 from Milwaukie to help defend Russian borders from the Ukranian meanies. I hear that the Grand Poopah has a soft spot for vodka. I doubt that Ukrainians would want to cross with the grand poopah. Even the Foonze was scared of the grand poopha.

When the US/Britain/France and Russia attacked Germany at the end of WWII Hitler was very angry and thought that it was against all international laws. Laws that he respected so much - as much as Putler today.
