Judge all you want, gotta do something with my time here.To me video games and virtual reality are the same forms of escape as religion. The Matrix in some form is already developing. Peole growing up in it will be unable to distinguish reality from illusion.Well, I study these things because I want to create more interesting games, and also create other interesting nonhuman things, perhaps people, that play games and perhaps to play games with us!Descartes wrote apply yourself to problems that can be solved and leave the rest to the 'astrologers'. I took his use of the word astrologer to mean the pseudoscience and mysticism of the day.
Hopefully not "global thermonuclear war".
To that end, I have to consider about "gods" and the true statements that may be said of them, else one of the true statements that may be said of me is "they are a shitty 'god', let's kill them."
Fundamentally, the game I play is "Self-Actualize!"
Usually I actualize myself by generating solutions for the preservation of "hoards of self", along with manicuring and curating experiences of me that I think a wide variety of interesting people will appreciate.
To build the former, I have to play other games that don't kill me forever when I lose them, so as to glean as much analogical/transferrable strategy as I may.
Oftentimes the skills I build are even meta in nature: I generate not just solutions for instances, but solutions for whole games, Algorithmic processes that solve their problem domain entirely, or at least "suitably".
It's not an escape so much as a less lethal learning experience.
