Are merpersons full-on fish down there? If so, I can see where going without warning from a single pore to two confusing holes woiuld be an embarassing and confusing experience.

I don't think it's the holes as much as that there are places you can and cannot let fly. And it has nothing to do with prevailing currents.

Imagine if she'd originally been a bird (or better, a harpy) instead of a mermaid. "Ever have one of those days when you just can't pass a statue?"

A fish doesn't care where it goes to the bathroom and probably has very little control over the process.

Yes, but a merperson has a hominid brain, not an icthyoid one.

She still needs to learn to use the muscles she's never had, even if the necessary neural pathways are there. In the beginning she would poop like a baby and possibly would have to wear an adult diaper just in case.

How do you get a diaper to stay on a mermaid? Wouldn't it just ... slide down her tail?

It might entail suspenders.

It's for when she's under the spell that gives her legs. But I would think the spell would also give her bowel and bladder control.

Floof is right. Like when Peter made the lame man able to walk in Acts 3. Dude was "lame from his mother's womb" so he had never walked. Wouldn't have looked much like a miracle at all if the man had to learn how to walk like the rest of us do. Miracle Max's first principle of miracle working is the miracle has to have panache.

And now for something really different: An image that made me laugh in a thread about images that make you laugh... ;)

Good point. If it didn't influence her nervous system she couldn't use legs.
