That is almost a routine experience for New Mexicans who travel back East, I know so many people who've had their citizenship challenged when they say they're from New Mexico. I used to live in Durango, CO; I once mentioned to my (Oregonian) great-grandmother that it was a common habit for Durangoans to go down to New Mexico for bulk grocery trips, as the nearest Sam's Club was in Farmington.
