Jesus is omniscient. When he created the world, he knew everything that would ever happen in it.

With that foreknowledge, he likes to wear the cross ironically.

So he goes around confusing the hell out of people just for kicks? Or does he tell them how he’s going to hang there some day?

That would make sense. If there was a god that created the universe the way it is then he would have to have one hell of a weird sense of humor.

I dunno how confused. It's a common enough item, just without religious connotations, yet. A tool of the oppressors he's signalling he's totally unafraid of.
It'd be more like if Trump had a tax form necklace, or Don, Jr. wore a barred prison window on a chain, or Eric wore a doorknob marked 'PULL.'
