Liz Truss Is Now Britain's Prime Minister

Truss is now promising to cap UK energy costs to £2500 per houehold per year. Command economies usually end up as a disaster. A great start for the Tory's new leader.
Perhaps it all that cheap, reliable renewable energy that is helping to force up prices and causing the need for the cap?

She shouldn't be the health minister, she should be the prime minister.

Don't compare Truss to real talent. She would not stand a chance.

Certainly, there are better criticisms for the appointment than those pictures. Right?
While those pictures of Therese Coffey are unflattering I was not motivated by body shaming. You will not find a single instance at IIDB.org, rationalia.com, RationalSkepticism.org or any other forum I have ever posted in where I have done so.

Massively obese, nicotine smoking, alcohol drinking people - as illustrated above - do not make for suitable heads of the health ministry. In my opinion persons who do not care about their own personal health are not as likely to be as concerned about national health as persons who take their own health seriously enough to refrain from manifestly unhealthy life styles.

They're Tories. Everyone already knows they don't give a shit about the people they govern.

I was talking about Coffey. And while nobody can match Churchill in the "talent" for consuming booze and cigars, it looks as if Coffey is at least giving it a try.

"the haters will say that after 12 years of Tories, we are at the dregs of what they have to offer, and Liz Truss is like the backwash of the dregs"

Not really; In the UK, Europe, and Australia, 'Conservatives' are centre-right parties, somewhat to the left politically of where your Democratic party stands.
Not really. While UK Conservatives are doing some inexplicable things like banning fracking - which is fucking them over royally right now - you would not have anybody like AOC or anybody from her Squad in the UK Conservative Party or in the German C?U etc.

Nah, Thatcher was cruel and driven by a broken ideology, but capable of rational thought, and to some extent tempered by the threat of a plausibly electable opposition.
Thatcher's economic reforms were necessary, as was not giving in to the coal miners and defending a UK dependency from Argentine aggression.

Truss isn't even rational enough to be consistent in her cruelty. She's Boris 2.0, without the meagre entertainment value of slapstick humour.
We shall see. If she is as bad as you think, it is up to Labour to provide a "plausibly electable opposition", don't you think. At least they jettisoned that doddering old socialist as leader, which is a start.

Thatcher 2.0, most likely. This is the fourth "new" Government brought to you by the exact same people.
Of course, the other guys had a chance to be the people to bring you the government 2019, but they failed to get rid of Corbyn, and he became a millstone around the Labour Party's neck.

[snip] alcohol drinking people - as illustrated above - do not make for suitable heads of the health ministry.
So only teetotalers should be health ministers? I guess you will enjoy it when UK becomes an Islamic Republic and no alcohol is enforced by law ...
My takeaway was seeing the new health minister drinking and smoking.
Same question I asked Hermit. You don't think anybody who drinks alcohol should be a health minister?

Fixed your quote mine.
Wasn't a quote mine. I was specifically asking about that third criterion, so I trimmed the quote for clarity.

How about you answer the question?

This is my answer:
Massively obese, nicotine smoking, alcohol drinking people - as illustrated above - do not make for suitable heads of the health ministry.
No "or" between three items. They make up a list, and you deleted two thirds of it, twisting what I wrote into something other than I meant.

To be fair, that cigar is not lit, so I think she merely pretends to be Churchill.
Drinking, well, I understand alcoholism, not just drinking, is very common among UK politicians. So it's hard to find who does not drink.
My biggest problem is her obesity. She clearly let herself go.
