I recently subscribed to sub stack and I read your link. I'm already doing some of those things, like donating to organizations that are trying to protect the SCS as well as the ACLU. I read a large variety of news, and although the NYT and Reuters weren't mentioned I think they are both good sources of news, along with the ones mentioned in the link. Reuters is supposed to be one of the most unbiased sources of news. I don't read it often, but I've been impressed with what I have read, at least so far.Hi! I did not mean to abandon this discussion—real life has demanded more time/attention. But I have been gathering some ideas for action all of us can take. I’m hoping to successfully link to Dan Rather’s Substack outlining some of these:What I think is that we will lose democracy if we do not stand up, speak out and demand that laws be followed, that the constitution be upheld. We must demand that our state and federal elected officials adhere to the US constitution. We must challenge the disinformation and realize that Trump thrives on generating outrage as a distraction from his real game which is theft. He does not give a damn about anyone other than himself. Nor does Musk.I confess that I am both shocked and dismayed by the rather quiet acquiescence that I am reading here, as though this is no big deal. Frankly, I’ve never been so angry or disgusted in my entire life—which is saying something.
So Toni expressed this in the other thread and I've been wondering for over a week what can a common individual do? Legal action only please. Please don't suggest anything illegal.
I have written my Senators and Representative in Congress. But frankly in Massachusetts it's not like my Senators and Rep aren't already against trump. Elizabeth Warren has been...

Please let me know if you can’t read it. I’m trying to stay within board guidelines and not posting the suggestions in total.
I want to add that we also need to reach out and support and protect persons of color, immigrants ( documented or not) and other vulnerable persons, particularly low income individuals and those with disabilities or serious health conditions and to do your best to support whatever individual or organization protects our environment, our schools ( pre-K through Grad/professional school), our elections, small businesses over Walmart and Amazon, and most especially organizations that protect our voting rights.
I’m doing much of this, and have contacted legislators, expressing my outrage over Musk and his minions’ illegal access to government agencies and personal, private data.
Let me know if you can’t read the link and I’ll try to do enough in the way of snippets quoted to give you the gist.
I've found it's impossible to convince people not to watch Fox or Newmax and while I was going to write my Trump endorsed congress critter, I've been told that the Republicans aren't even bothering to read their emails or letters. My two Senators are Democrats who are trying to stop Trump. So, imo, some of the suggestions in the link didn't sound helpful.
I have lots of Black friends and a few gay friends. I have never had anyone say anything bad about gay people, not even my closest Christians friends, but I certainly would defend the LBGTQ community if the topic were to come up. On the other hand, there are some very nasty, hateful people on a local FB discussion page that say horrible things about gay and trans folks. They even said that Bishop Budde should be deported, where, to New Jersey, where she was born and raised? I doubt my posting on that ugly site would do a thing other than to make them more hateful. I've only been there a few times and I've seen how ugly they are when someone challenges them. It's a losing battle to try and reason with such haters.
I live in a Black majority city, so I have lots of Black neighbors, friends and friendly acquaintances. We discuss politics quite often. I am very concerned about our local immigrants. I asked the one non immigrant, at our favorite Mexican restaurant if his coworkers were worried and he said "NO". What can I do to protect them? My governor and mayor support what Trump is doing. He's even having immigrants with legal status deported, including those who have been waiting for asylum and keeping all of their appointments. I feel helpless. I've cried over what they are doing. I knew a couple of. undocumented immigrants a few years ago. They lived about 20 miles from me, but we lost touch. The husband was a cook in a Mexican restaurant, very sweet, kind people. What the fuck are all the Republicans who love eating in our many Mexican restaurants going to do when the immigrants are deported? Maybe when food prices skyrocket they will wake up or worse yet, when it's hard to even get enough fruit and veggies or meat, due to the severe labor shortages in the areas where immigrants are the primary or only workers.
