Musk raiding personal data of fed employees?

Today's thought experiment. Imagine, George Soros campaigning for VP Harris. Giving her campaign over a quarter of a billion in support.

And then after VP Harris becomes President Harris, she lets Soros and his crew have the keys to anything in DC. Can you imagine the amount of silence from the right-wing as that was occurring and Soros was sending letters to DC workers about mass layoffs? Can you just imagine how little they would care?

Of course they wouldn’t care because it’d be in the service of shrinking the government just like they want, right???

You misunderstand. When the current crop of "conservatives" talks about shrinking the government, what they really mean is shrinking democracy. They would prefer that people who don't like their brand of fascism not be represented in government, that's all. Once those who favor democracy are sufficiently purged, the sky is the limit on how big they'd like government to be.
In fact they'd like it to be all-consuming, so they don't have to worry about The Others® complaining about totalitarianism.

I do not misunderstand. I just forgot to add enough question marks to adequately highlight my sarcasm.

I prefer not to use “sarcasm tags” around my posts so I will occasionally run into this problem. But unfortunately we live in a world where reality and its satirical representation are becoming extremely difficult to tell apart.

Lolilolol.
It was also being sarcastic saying you misunderstand. Did you misunderstand, or were you being sarcastic about misunderstanding my sarcasm about misundrstanding? I may have misunderstood!

Channeling Underseer?

Channeling Underseer?
That made me chuckle!
You remember Underseer?
I only remember that what he couldn’t undersee, he overlooked.

I recall that he was constantly being sarcastic but people didn't get it and didn't always work so well.

I think he was finally asked to use sarcasm tags.

It wasn't nearly as fun after that. I liked him. Or at least I liked his avatar.

Oh Noes!!!1!

Colbert made a great analogy last night.
DOGE is like a dentist pulling a tooth to examine it.
Close, except “DOGE” has no intention of examining anything. They have already deciding that the pulling of the tooth is already the best course of action and have no need for any examination, be it prior to or after the pulling.

Trump doesn't ever think about "is it legal to...." He thinks "I'll do it and expect to get away with it legal or not"
or in other words it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

The White House’s wildly inaccurate claims about USAID spending

The news release then listed 12 examples, plucked from the websites of right-wing media. But the numbers cited — as low as $32,000 — hardly justify the claim that these are “massive sums” of money. In fact, they are so low that some of the funds appear to have been awarded at the ambassador level, without Washington involvement. At least one dated from the first Trump administration, and some were actually State Department grants, not USAID.

Whether they are “ridiculous” might be in the eye of the beholder. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt held up the sheet before reporters on Monday and declared, “I don’t know about you, but as an American taxpayer I don’t want my dollars going toward this crap.”

In fiscal year 2023, USAID was appropriated about $25 billion by Congress, according to ForeignAssistance.gov. (The website in recent days has been changed to combine USAID spending with foreign aid distributed by the State Department, so the combined total is nearly $39 billion.) The White House identified only about $12 million in grants — one of which was $6 million — though one allegation vaguely claimed “hundreds of millions of dollars.” Upon inspection, that turned out to be from 2005 to 2008.
Doesn't really matter if he's wrong. The MAGAts won't care enough to look it up and even if they did they would say the news is lying.

It doesn't have to be true as long as it follows along the right wing media's narrative for the last 40 years.
This could be posted in literally any Trump thread here, past of future, and remain both relevant and true.

They have created an entire fictional world, with little or no connection to reality, and they are determined to drag us all into it.

What I think is that we will lose democracy if we do not stand up, speak out and demand that laws be followed, that the constitution be upheld. We must demand that our state and federal elected officials adhere to the US constitution. We must challenge the disinformation and realize that Trump thrives on generating outrage as a distraction from his real game which is theft. He does not give a damn about anyone other than himself. Nor does Musk.
Hi! I did not mean to abandon this discussion—real life has demanded more time/attention. But I have been gathering some ideas for action all of us can take. I’m hoping to successfully link to Dan Rather’s Substack outlining some of these:

Please let me know if you can’t read it. I’m trying to stay within board guidelines and not posting the suggestions in total.

I want to add that we also need to reach out and support and protect persons of color, immigrants ( documented or not) and other vulnerable persons, particularly low income individuals and those with disabilities or serious health conditions and to do your best to support whatever individual or organization protects our environment, our schools ( pre-K through Grad/professional school), our elections, small businesses over Walmart and Amazon, and most especially organizations that protect our voting rights.

I’m doing much of this, and have contacted legislators, expressing my outrage over Musk and his minions’ illegal access to government agencies and personal, private data.

Let me know if you can’t read the link and I’ll try to do enough in the way of snippets quoted to give you the gist.
