And again, it's about George Floyd.

Riot in downtown Portland marks one-year anniversary of George Floyd's murder

KGW said:
A crowd of demonstrators, many wearing all black, started to gather outside the Justice Center on Southwest Third Avenue and Main Street around 8 p.m. for a planned event to commemorate Floyd.
By 8:30 p.m., someone had spray-painted the Justice Center with the words "Rest in Power George Floyd" and "All Cops Are Chauvin," referring to the Minneapolis officer who killed Floyd.
[...]
Police said people in the crowd were throwing frozen water bottles and eggs at officers and metal spikes in the road.
Just before 10 p.m., police said the crowd had marched to Portland City Hall on Southwest Fifth Avenue and Jefferson Street and broke windows. Moments later, they declared a riot.
Police ordered the crowd to disperse and said those who continue to engage in criminal activity will risk being arrested.
At 10:15 p.m., police said the crowd was marching in the downtown streets. Demonstrators broke windows at Estate Jewelry, Ruth's Chris Steak House and two Starbucks locations.

There were some arrests made, but what use is arresting the perps if the pro-Antifa DA refuses to prosecute?

You're behind the times son! Non-violent rioters are being let go. But ever since the riots started turning nasty and violent, the DA and the cops are not playing around with them. I can tell you, and I live here, the people are really sick of the protestors. And violent offenders are now facing charges. The riotors have lost of a lot of support btw.

Who are you trying to kid? Don't you know that those thousands of nonviolent demonstrators actually SUPPORT the dozens of violent thugs who are rioting just to loot stuff and cause Property Damage? That's serious stuff, not like killing cops in pursuit of overturning a national election or similarly innocuous behavior. Derec only lives 3000 miles from there - these thugs are probably keeping him awake at night.

What is it with the pacific northwest and this breed of protest hooligan? It is appears to be an occupation out there.

Basically another police instigated riot.

Proof the protest was valid.

Defund the fuckers.

Throw them out.

Build the institution anew from the ground up.

The Gresham police are covering for the Portland police that are covering the demonstrations. One of the shootings this year was a Gresham cop shooting a man. The shooting is under investigation. So that is one cop killing someone. Our "right" number is 0. 0 people killed by cops. Maybe more defunding is needed to get to 0 next year.

Right, there's no relationship whatsoever between depolicing and crime rates. Got it.

Is your concern that the defund the police movement in Portland has not resulted in enough excess homicides? 55 homicides in Portland in 2020 -- the most in 26 years -- involved victims from 8 months old to 71

What is the right sacrificial number?

Police instigated riots have costs.

Why do you ignore the root cause?

Constant illegitimate activity by the police.

An illegitimate institution that needs to be totally replaced with a human institution.

You really don’t care about the excess deaths. There’s a high price bloody tag for your sanctimony.

I care about the deaths at the hands of the corrupt people part of the current racist corrupt system.

So you want to see slaughter in the streets? Because that's what 0 police-caused deaths will mean. We've already seen that BLM-caused reductions in police shootings increase the death toll many times more than they reduce it.

It's not a riot instigated by police, but by left wing radicals.

Radicals, yes, but it's not so clear they're left wing.

In most cases it appears to be basically peaceful protesters (mild vandalism) and radicals taking advantage of the situation--and plenty of those radicals are from the right.

I don't agree.

This is just another riot started by excessive police violence and desire to control people with force.

How do you figure this? What timeline are you looking at that supports your assertion that excessive police force caused this riot?

All you gotta do is put a few trouble makers in to break a few windows then the cops scream "riot" and start throwing people around with force.
