Oh, Matty. Have you been a naughty boy?

It's becoming very apparent that Gaetz is the Harvey Weinstein of the Republican Party. In the sense that everybody knew for years and said nothing about it.

I thought that was Trumpbuddy Epstein. Guess there are a lot of them.

It was publicly known about Epstein even before he got arrested in 2019. Same as Roman Polanski. Weinstein was very hush hush outside of certain circles, much like Gaetz.

Katie Hill: Matt Gaetz Defended Me When My Nudes Were Shared Without My Consent. Now He’s Accused of Doing Just That | Vanity Fair
Matt and I forged an unlikely friendship in Congress, and he was one of the few colleagues who spoke out after a malicious nude-photo leak upended my life. But if recent reports are true, he engaged in the very practice he defended me from—and should resign immediately.

...
Last week’s scandal, which centers on a Justice Department investigation into allegations of possible sex trafficking of a minor, also involves accusations of the same crime of which I was a victim: the nonconsensual sharing of intimate images. And in a twist of irony, the accused person, Matt Gaetz, is one of the few colleagues who came to my defense when it happened to me.
Then on the rather unlikely friendship between KH and MG. They had been in the House Armed Services Committee together, and KH recalled doing an all-nighter markup of the year's military appropriations bill, where one debates and votes on amendments to it before sending it to the House floor.
The bill was stalled because Donald Trump wanted to put hundreds of millions of dollars through the defense bill into building his border wall. The newly empowered House Democrats were saying no, and the Republicans didn’t like being back in the minority. At one point I said to Matt, “So what is it with you and Trump? You don’t really believe that stuff, do you?”

“Well, you gotta give the fans on Fox what they want, but I do love Donald Trump,” he said. “I don’t think I want to be in Congress after he’s done as president.”

I stared at him blankly and shook my head in dismay. But I was still grateful for the company.
Then the scandal that brought down KH. Republicans were gloating about it, with one exception.
Then, suddenly, the golden boy of Fox spoke up for me. Matt was the first member of Congress who publicly and unapologetically defended me, saying that while I might have made mistakes, I was a victim in this circumstance. At one of the darkest moments of my life, when I was feeling more alone than I ever had, Matt stood up for me—and that really mattered.

Matt and I corresponded a bit throughout 2020. I was horrified by his ongoing support of Trump and I told him so.
KH defended MG's relationship with his adopted son Nestor.
Once Trump lost and Matt started perpetuating Trump’s dangerous lies about the election results, our occasional texts stopped altogether. When Matt doubled down after the January 6 insurrection, I questioned how I could have ever considered us friends. But in difficult times, sometimes the unlikeliest people support you.

I like that perspective on Matt Gaetz. But nobody has revealed nude pictures of him -- yet.

Gaetz Paid Accused Sex Trafficker, Who Then Venmo’d Teen

In two late-night Venmo transactions in May 2018, Rep. Matt Gaetz sent his friend, the accused sex trafficker Joel Greenberg, $900. The next morning, over the course of eight minutes, Greenberg used the same app to send three young women varying sums of money. In total, the transactions amounted to $900.

The memo field for the first of Gaetz’s transactions to Greenberg was titled “Test.” In the second, the Florida GOP congressman wrote “hit up ___.” But instead of a blank, Gaetz wrote a nickname for one of the recipients. (The Daily Beast is not sharing that nickname because the teenager had only turned 18 less than six months before.) When Greenberg then made his Venmo payments to these three young women, he described the money as being for “Tuition,” “School,” and “School.”

The Daily Beast examined these records as a scandal, rooted in a criminal case against Greenberg, engulfs Gaetz.

Greenberg and Gaetz are also connected on Venmo to at least one other woman that Greenberg paid with taxpayer funds using a government-issued credit card. Seminole County auditors flagged hundreds of those payments as “questioned or unaccounted for,” and in total found more than $300,000 in suspicious or unjustified expenses. The Daily Beast was able to obtain that credit card data through a public records request.

“No one has any idea what he was doing. Zero,” said Daniel J. O'Keefe, an accountant who conducted a forensic audit for the county. “The arrogance of these guys. They just felt they were above the law. I've never seen it this bad.”

O’Keefe was particularly puzzled by weekend expenses, hotels, unspecified high-dollar “consulting” fees, and cash advances that Greenberg made to himself and others. The Daily Beast has compared Greenberg’s credit card statements and Venmo transactions to Gaetz’s expenses and travel records—compiled through campaign finance reports, Instagram posts, and Venmo—and found that, in some key places, the two timelines and circles of contact overlap.

A recent tweet from him:
Rep. Matt Gaetz on Twitter: "I may be a canceled man in some corners. I may even be a wanted man by the Deep State

But I hear the millions of Americans who feel forgotten, canceled, ignored, marginalized and targeted.

I draw confidence knowing that the silent majority is growing louder every day." / Twitter

Ex-Rep. Katie Hill: 'Gross' for Gaetz to invoke my name | TheHill
"I think it is gross," Hill said during on CNN. "Knowing now that that could have been just because he was trying to cover up for whatever his own indiscretions were ... is just gross."

When questioned by CNN anchor Erin Burnett about her view of Gaetz's character, Hill said she might not be the best judge, but noted that she didn't realize Gaetz had formerly opposed an anti-revenge porn law in Florida.

Rep. Matt Gaetz: The swamp is out to drown me with false charges, but I'm not giving up | Washington Examiner
Washington scandal cycles are predictable, and sex is especially potent in politics. Let me first remind everyone that I am a representative in Congress, not a monk, and certainly not a criminal.
Then he claimed that he is being smeared.
Folks won't be surprised that bizarre claims are being made about me shortly after I decided to take on the most powerful institutions in the Beltway: the establishment; the FBI; the Biden Justice Department; the Cheney political dynasty; even the Justice Department under Trump.

Yes, just like the mafia, the D.C. swamp protects its “made men.” Since I’m taking my turn under the gun, let me address the allegations against me directly. First, I have never, ever paid for sex. And second, I, as an adult man, have not slept with a 17-year-old.
"And no, I am absolutely not resigning."

Opinion | Here’s … Matt Gaetz - The New York Times
As it stands, Gaetz is a spectacularly unproductive Florida Republican who never managed, during his first two terms in the House, to get a single bill that he sponsored signed into law. (We are still crossing our fingers for that post-office-naming he co-sponsored.) Meanwhile, by Forbes’s count, he has appeared on Fox News at least 179 times since taking office.

Now, we’ve learned, the Justice Department has been investigating — through two administrations — whether he had sex with a 17-year-old girl and paid for her to travel with him. Having sex with a minor is both illegal and appalling, and the Gaetz saga is intertwined with many, many details involving his slimy associates, one of whom has already been indicted on sex trafficking, and his alleged use of drugs (Ecstasy, of course).

...
Gaetz sort of congratulated himself for defending her back “when her own Democratic colleagues wouldn’t,” and she recently agreed that he had been a pal at “one of the darkest moments of my life.”

… Before adding that if there was even “a fraction of truth” to the current reports — that included showing off pictures of naked women without their consent — he should definitely resign. “Immediately.”
Katie Hill and Matt Gaetz reacted very differently. KH by feeling crushed and MG by belligerently asserting that he did nothing wrong.

Why sex trafficking (across state line) make everything worse?

In the early days of the United States and the Constitution, most law enforcement was in the hands of the State governments. The Federal Government was mostly concerned with taxation and national security. As the nation grew, it became apparent that the Federal Government had little or no power under the prosecution of any crime against a person or private property. As a result, Federal laws were passed which defined crimes where criminal actions happened in different states. This is a very broad standard. Any crime which includes the use of the mail, the interstate telephone system, or the internet, is a Federal crime. Through the years, specific interstate crimes have been defined in Federal Law. In the early 1900's, there was a common belief that women in small towns were commonly enticed to come to large cities and were then coerced into a life of prostitution. This led to Federal Laws which made it a crime to transport a woman across a state line, for the purpose of paid sex.

That's the only part of the law which still stands. In the original law, it was illegal for a man to drive any woman who was not his wife, across a state line for a discreet assignation, and no money involved. There is an old story about a man who stopped his car a few feet short of the New Jersey state line, so his girlfriend could get out and walk into New York, under her own power.

"If you want something said, get a man. If you want something done, hire a woman"

I've got a quote for you, Matty; if you're in a hole, stop fucking digging.

Why sex trafficking (across state line) make everything worse?

Because white people (the colonists) didn't want their own people treated like they have treated black people; which was women/children taken and moved to another place to be sold for sex. If you look at the history of many laws you'll see it's essentially about white folks not wanting to have done to them what they're doing to others.

"B-b-but that's not what Donald does! He keeps on digging, only faster!"

Sorry Matty. You're not Donald, and you don't have immunity from prosecution - or any "friends" you can blackmail.

He's something to see. The hair is a mix of brunette Howdy Doody, 80s TV evangelist, and the hairstyle Elvis rocked in his '65 movies, that shiny creosote look. And every sentence is no-longer-jawbreakingly stupid, in the manner of all Trump's altar boys. Wonder how long this kind of man will be part of the scene.

I just heard that Matt's bestest buddy is spilling all the beans on their nefarious activities.

That's as pleasant as the aroma of Sassafras.

Shouldn't this thread be in the U.S. Presidential Politics forum? Mr. Gaetz is a star Congressman and has expressed interest in running for President in 2024. As far as I can tell, Mr. Gaetz embodies modern Republican values and would be an ideal candidate; yet the Left is trying to make him another victim of Cancel Culture.

Just the photogenic picture of Mr. Gaetz should make him a front-runner. In both looks and demeanor, he reminds of no one more than the great Don Jr. (or perhaps what Don Jr. could have been if he were a B student in high school instead of a C student).

Yes, even in high school, Matt demonstrated the negotiating skills of a future President:
A debate teammate recalled Gaetz threatening a teammate with his dad's political sway: "He was, like, 'You don't speak like that to me, or I'm going to call my dad and have him call some people at Dartmouth so your admission gets withdrawn," the teammate told Insider.
Who do you want to see going toe-to-toe with Angela Merkel? Joe Milquetoast? Or a guy who demonstrated his mettle from an early age?

The liberal media is running with headlines about Joel Greenberg, supposedly Matt's buddy, who's accused of ... accused of what exactly? Drinking champagne with women and offering to give them taxi-fare home? I suppose liberals would give the girl beer and dump her at the curb when finished. And the way the FBI caught on to Greenberg is pretty amusing: In the best tradition of Republican stars like Karl Rove, Roger Stone and Scotus luminaries like Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts, Greenberg created false accusations against his political opponent. Brilliant!! But instead of taking this like a man, the opponent went whining to the FBI.

Obviously Mr. Gaetz is innocent of these weird accusations:
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said:
“I’ve spoken to Mr. Gaetz about the accusations. He’s told me he’s innocent of the accusations.”
I don't see how he can be clearer than that. He didn't say "almost innocent," or "probably innocent," or "sort of innocent." He didn't challenge his enemies to define the meaning of "is", like real sex offenders do. He's innocent — the innocent target of liberals and their perverse political correctness.

And what if the accusations are true? Matt Gaetz had sex with a woman. Big deal! A young virile man having sex with a 17-year old is not illegal in many jurisdictions. It's not like she was the 15-year old who fornicated with Bill Clinton or Al Franken in the Oval Office.

Gaetz has bent over backwards to obey the law. Florida has a Puritanical 18-year age of consent? He flies his girlfriend to Georgia, or Louisiana or Mississippi or any enlightened state with a more rational age of consent. A cheapskate Democrat would have forged a fake ID, or, worse, made the love-starved girl wait until her birthday.

MAtt GAetz for President!
