Not exactly. The lemmings mostly don't think. The DC Repug politicians think. But only what they say they think depends on what Trump says.
Trump is fading into the night even as we speak. He is shedding lemmings like a CPAC convention sheds virus particles.
As soon as Trump "decides" (being behind bars or having fled the Country) not to seek the GOP nomination, the Washington 'pugs will let you know what they really wanted to say they thought all along.
In reality though, all that they really truly think is "how can I keep this phony baloney job?" and "is there some fallout from Trump's demise that can benefit me?".

As for his voter/followers, they don't think. They know. Until they get hit in the face with the truth, and then they're shocked. That happens all too rarely, but it will continue apace until most of them say they never really believed him or supported him.

Woah woah woah. I'm not American (legal permanent resident at the time of this post), but I know it's unfair to allow Trump to lower your opinion of American's in general. Not everyone voted for him ya know. It's easy to beat him anyway. All you have to do is talk about Christ in modern terms while serving up history lessons with undertones of restoring the great white America of old. Just put it in better words than Trump's acoustic murmurs. Then like the Majority of Presidents, once you get it in the White House do some other shit.

When the Out of Power Party, the OOPP faces the incumbent President, they are faced with a stark choice. They can choose a candidate with a good chance of winning, assuming such a chance exists, or choose a candidate who will likely lose, and cause the least disruption to the party. John McCain was the perfect loser candidate. He could run against a popular President and lose without compromising other Republicans chances in the following election.

Up to this point in US history, one term former Presidents have had the good sense to sit back and enjoy their retirement, but good sense in the GOP has greatly deteriorated in the past four years.

When I read the tea leaves, what I see is a lot of potential candidates who are ready and willing to give Trump lip service for the time being, but are counting on Trump self destruction before the Iowa Caucuses get started. This means they can go along with Trump's 2024 ambitions, and see it as a no risk strategy. They appear to be a loyal Trump supporter, but will never be asked to actually support him.

Apparently good sense doesn't apply to fiddle right and marching left. Williams Jennings Bryan,  Gus Hall, and  Norman Thomas come to mind. Professional candidates they for lost cause parties before Roosevelt, Communists and Socialists before the cold war.

There, there. No need to question the loyalty of these young hate-filled MAGAites. I'm sure they were happy with million-dollar grifts, pleased by comparisons of masks to the Holocaust, and certainly overjoyed to chant "Stop the Steal."

They just drew the line at 17 year-old hookers, perhaps due to pressure from their own 21 year-old girlfriends.

What all those perennial candidates had in common is they lived in the era before pre-televised conventions. It was the day of the smoke filled room and who became the party's nominee was determined by several hundred middle aged white men, who didn't have to justify their final choice to anyone. Bryant was one of the best at this game, for all the good it did him.

Matt Gaetz awkwardly deletes tweet calling for the defunding of the FBI

One of those policies is a fervent opposition to progressive calls to “defund the police,” an unfortunate misnomer for the reallocation of police budgets to fund less confrontational methods to deal with people suffering from public mental health crises and minor traffic violations.

Republicans like Rep. Gaetz have weaponized the idea of defunding the police to use against Democrats as a potent, if misleading, political tool as they try to paint their opposition as soft on crime rather than simply trying to prevent further unwarranted killings of unarmed Black people though law enforcement misconduct.

With Gaetz himself now reportedly under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his sex trafficking allegations, however, his attitudes towards law enforcement have become somewhat more complicated.

So much so that, after posting a tweet calling for the defunding of the FBI, the very bureau that has him in its crosshairs, Gaetz quickly thought better of how it might appear to his MAGA supporters who fly their Thin Blue Line flags outside their trailers and on their pickup trucks.

It only took the Florida congressman a minute to decide that he had better delete that tweet before he irreparably damaged his bona fides with the “law & order” crowd who have yet to abandon him for his alleged crimes.

The controversial pair were forced to address supporters on the street outside the Riverside City Hall, after three California venues turned their planned “protest” away.

Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene hoped the third time might be the charm for finding a California venue to host their “America First” rally on Saturday night. But instead of speaking to a packed arena, the pair were left with the sidewalk outside the Riverside City Hall.

Greene used the “Peaceful Protest Against Communism” to hawk vaccine hesitancy. She urged the crowd, “Don’t let them force your kids to wear masks at school. Don’t let your kids be forced to take a vaccine that’s not FDA approved.” Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in California are surging as the more contagious Delta variant rips through the unvaccinated population.

Gaetz, who is currently under federal investigation for sex trafficking and abuse of a minor, railed against “the corrupt forces in the Department of Justice and the FBI” and complained that the private venues’ refusals to host the pair amounted to an infringement on their freedom of speech.

“They may try to cancel us online, they may try to pursue us in real life, they may shut down our venues, but we will take this fight to them in the courts, in the halls of Congress, and if necessary in the streets,” he said.

Matt Gaetz’s Future Sister-in-Law Says He’s a Gaslighting ‘Creep’

Rep. Matt Gaetz’s future sister-in-law appears to have had more than enough of the Florida congressman, posting three TikTok videos in the last two days slamming him as “weird and creepy” and “a literal pedophile.”

Roxanne Luckey—the sister of Gaetz’s fiancée, Ginger Luckey—was sharply critical of the congressman and his treatment of young women, saying she “unfortunately was not surprised” to have learned Gaetz was under federal investigation for alleged sex crimes.

In one video Monday night, Roxanne Luckey told a story about Gaetz pressuring an older man to court her when she was 19. She called the move “weird and creepy”—and claims Gaetz yelled at her and her mother and went “full lawyer” when she confronted him.

“I saw the character and type of person he is, and when everything came out about him, I honestly, unfortunately, was not surprised,” Luckey said in one video.

“As someone who has personally experienced a ton of creepy old politician men hitting on me when I was underage, and experiencing sexual assault at that age by people of power, it’s very disheartening and I have zero tolerance of people like [Gaetz],” said Roxanne, who in 2020 worked briefly as a White House intern. She added that she is “tired of them getting away with this type of stuff.”

Texts show Joel Greenberg arranging for him and Matt Gaetz to meet a woman who 'usually' requires '$400 per meet,' report says

Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz's former right-hand man Joel Greenberg has given prosecutors years' worth of electronic cash transactions and "thousands" of pictures and videos as part of a broad sex-trafficking probe, sources told ABC News.

text messages that Greenberg is said to have sent in September 2018 to a woman he met online. The text messages appear to show Greenberg asking the woman whether she was of legal age and whether she would take drugs, ABC reported. He then asked whether she'd like to meet with him and Gaetz. He added, "And how much of an allowance will you be requiring :)," the report said.

The woman replied that she had a friend who introduced her to the website whom she could bring. She also said that she "usually" requires "$400 per meet," the report said.
