Both sides are fictions created by the ruling class to keep us all busy. They cannot compromise or work together, as their disagreements and arguments are never made in good faith to begin with.
I know, right. Arguing humane principles and policies against authoritarianism is pointless. I mean, who can even tell the difference? pfffth.
Arguing about principles and policies makes considerable sense. Trusting a
political party to determine your opinions on any of those matters is utter folly. Their position will be inherently self-contradictory and inconsistent with their collective action over time. They literally cannot find middle ground with each other, because it is not in their political or economic interest to do so any more.
Give you a little hint: both left- and right- wing media solemnly assure people that the Party is defending them against authoritarianism and immorality.
Let me give
you a little hint. I'm not a right wing authoritarian follower, as most liberals aren't, and so we don't need a political party or candidate or politician to tell us what we believe.
It's the opposite, actually, at least with those of us who are smarter than political and religious cultists, meaning we develop our own principles and values, and then examine the candidates' and parties' platforms and policies to see if
they meet
our standards.
I don't need any politician or candidate to be some kind of perfect angel. They just need to meet my standards, and by and large, the Democrats do. None of them at 100%, but that's reality. The ones running reflect
my values at a rate of about 70% to 90%.
As you probably know, or if you don't, pick any right wing authoritarian nearby and ask them, the Democrat party in the U.S. was once upon a time very racist. Also ask Condoleeza Rice about that one. She's a Republican because the Dems refused her father membership because he was black.
Political parties, like religions, and cultures, and people, and everything else, change and morph over time. At THIS time in our history, it is the Republican party that is racist as fuck and the Democrats are, and have for a long time now, all about fairness, equality, protecting rights, inclusion, diversity, and generally the opposite of the spectrum from Republicans in terms of principles and values.
It's possible, actually probable, that what we call the Democrat party in the U.S. will change and morph into something less reflective of humane values and might even become the party of racism again. Who knows?
But at
this particular moment in our history, it is the Democratic party that cares about everyone's well being and rights, and not just rich white men's, and it is the Democratic party that is reflecting the values of democracy, while Republicans have somehow reverted to fellating King George as if the Revolution and U.S. independence never happened. And as long as Dems continue to demonstrate that they care more about people than money, about fairness more than power, and about law and order more than personal political careers, I will be voting for them.
Once again, most of us who call ourselves liberals are obviously not right wing authoritarian followers, obedience machines trained to worship authority and consider questioning to be a mortal sin, and
need a strongman daddy figure to tell them what to believe.
