Right Wing Terrorism

But that’s not illegal. Nosiree, not in Murka!
Unironically this. Being an asshole does not preclude somebody from exercising self defense.
And his behavior after he defended himself certainly cannot retroactively negate his self defense.
His behavior before he killed Martin does.

Zimmerman chose to engage in armed pursuit of a pedestrian who had done nothing to warrant it and despite the fact he had no legal right or obligation to do so. Zimmerman committed simple assault when he did that, and armed assault when he made physical contact.

Not only was he the aggressor that night, he had a history of violence and a criminal record for acts of violence both as a juvenile and an adult. Martin was defending himself from a violent thug who pursued, confronted, and attacked him for no good reason.

It's interesting to see you are back to arguing that the severity of injuries indicates who was the aggressor considering how many times you ducked the question about my former co-workers. Did you decide the guy with the scrape and small bruise was the aggressor and the one with the black eye, split lip, and swollen face was an innocent victim?

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee is pushing for congress to add more protection against hate crimes inspired by white supremacy. The "Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023 (LAWS) was presented to Congress this month, but the bill faced a lot of criticism.

1. Aren't there already federal hate crime laws?
2. Why single out white supremacy? That is bigoted in itself.
3. Is this the type of superfluous, bigoted and idiotic legislation we can look forward to if Dems retake the House in 2024?

The LAWS Act is intended to "prevent and prosecute white supremacy-inspired hate crime, and conspiracy to commit white supremacy-inspired hate crime, and to amend Title 18, to expand the scope of hate crimes."
To SJL, black supremacism is just fine and dandy.

Then again, she is one of the dimmest bulbs in the low-luminocity chandelier that is the US House.

Several conservative lawmakers have criticized Jackson Lee on the language in the bill and said it violates freedom of speech."
A real danger too when you word laws too broadly, e.g. the provision for criminal penalties for those who post things online. Note, black supremacist online material would not be punished under her bill.

Isn't SJL running for Houston mayor? I really do hope citizens of Houston have more sense than to elect her. But than again, I had a faint hope for Los Angeles as well, and yet they elected the Fidel Castro and Louis Farrakhnan supporter Karen Bass.

Indeed, another representative who, during her tenure as a U.S. Representative, seems more known for a factually inaccurate statement than positive contributions. She should be celebrated not hated by those passionate about their firearms because she gave them the opportunity to sidestep the real issues surrounding guns in our nation and focus on her error instead.

Why single out white supremacy? That is bigoted in itself.
In exactly the same way that laws against shoplifting are bigoted, because they don't address murderers.

The law "singles out white supremacy" because white supremacy is currently a major and growing problem.

She is being celebrated for exactly that right here in this thread.

A member of the pro-Nazi group White Lives Matter was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for firebombing an Ohio church that had been planning to host two drag events.

Aimeen Penny, 20, a far-right extremist from Ohio, was arrested last year after he made Molotov cocktails and threw them at the Community Church of Chesterland in Chesterland, Ohio, on March 25.

Justin Mohn, 32, is accused of killing his father, Michael Mohn, police told NBC News.

Mohn was taken into custody about 100 miles away from the crime scene on suspicion of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and possessing an instrument of crime with intent, according to a court docket released early Wednesday.

He was arraigned at 4 a.m. and denied bail, Middletown Township Police Capt. Pete Feeney said.

In the YouTube video, which was titled "Mohn's Militia - Call To Arms For American Patriots," Mohn is seen wearing gloves and holding his father's head in a plastic bag. Later, the head can be seen in a cooking pot.

Mohn says his father was a federal employee for 20 years and refers to him as a traitor, calling for the death of all federal officials, attacking President Joe Biden's administration, the Black Lives Matter movement, the LGBTQ community and antifa activists. YouTube removed the video, which is more than 14 minutes long, hours after it was posted.

And in other news, Derec seems surprised that Cori Bush wants serious security.

That sounds more like paranoia and mental illness than right-wing fanaticism.
There seems to be an awful lot of "paranoia and mental illness" currently afflicting "conservatives".
Especially the ones with guns. Now I'm wondering if they're going to try to shoot up the Superbowl due to their new TSDS.

Absolutely, but a burned out Bernie Sanders supporter, who luckily was a poor shot, nearly slaughtered over a dozen GOP'ers.
With a handgun. We might have a different congressional makeup if he had had an AR15, which made for the job. The right tool matters.

That's one compared to how many churches and grocery stores shot up by right wingers?

Those are two different crimes. With SJL's bill, the issue is the race of the perpetrator. So, yours is a bad analogy. It would be like SJL calling for a federal law specifically against white shoplifters.

The law "singles out white supremacy" because white supremacy is currently a major and growing problem.
There is also a lot of black supremacy. There is zero reason for a law to focus on race rather than the actual criminal action, regardless of whether the perp is member of Aryan Nation or of Nation of Islam. Other than rank bigotry on part of SJL and others who think this legislation makes sense.

Note that this is almost twice the sentence a Black Lives Matter terrorist received for an arson that resulted in a fatality. In that case, the federal prosecutor (belonging to the Biden/Garland DOJ) argued for leniency based on perp's political views.
Rochester man gets decade in federal prison for arson during George Floyd riots
And two arsonist #BLM lawyers, Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman, got only a year for throwing a molotov cocktail into a police vehicle.
Judge sentences second New York lawyer in Molotov cocktail case
In Atlanta, the left wing terrorists who burned down a Wendy's restaurant got away with probation.
2 plead guilty in fire at Atlanta Wendy’s restaurant during protest after Rayshard Brooks killing
They don't even have to pay restitution for the damages they caused.

Criminal justice should not be based on the politics of the perpetrators. Left wing terrorists should not be given a pass. These days, they usually do.

Vast majority of criminal shootings are committed with handguns.
And even handguns can cause a lot of fatalities. Just ask Seung-Hui Cho.

Absolutely, but a burned out Bernie Sanders supporter, who luckily was a poor shot, nearly slaughtered over a dozen GOP'ers.
Left wing violence and terrorism gets either ignored or excused.
Or, if you are Elixir, used as a segue for yet another rant against AR15s.

Tom
Surprised? No.
But at the same time she wants to defund police for the regular people.
And she gave campaign funds to her husband for "security", which is the issue with the DOJ probe, not mere fact that she has security.
