In reading over conservative boards, the response there is not "Oh no, he got caught lying again." Rather, it's "Hahahaha! He made the libtards chase their tails and is driving them crazy! Greatest POTUS ever!"
We're so fucked.
You're only fucked in the Democrats continue on the course of blaming everyone but themselves for everything that befalls them.
The Democrats should sack their leadership and connect with the people they should be representing.
I think you fail to grasp the magnitude of where America's version of "conservatism" has taken a huge portion of its voting population.
A good example: in Wisconsin, less than 50% of the voters are conservatives, yet conservatives have a 60%+ majority in their state house. This has become commonplace.
The intellectual level of conservatism is well, to use the word "intellectual" in this context is something of a misuse of that word. The right in the U.S. is a toxic cauldron of anti-science, pro-religion, anti-knowledge, non-facts, racism and nationalism that is being exercised in notably more blatant manifestations almost daily. There is a feeling of destruction for the sake of destruction by a significant portion of the conservative movement.
The point is that these people are beyond reason. They're cheering for things that are so obviously, provably bad for them and their families, but they don't care because they have some nebulous notion that it's going to hurt minorities, college students, gay people, and their other perceived enemies. That's what's driving policy in the United States right now. Spite, scapegoating, and vengeance for what's been done to them by the aforementioned. It's irrational, not based in fact, but is driven home to them by the narrative of a.m. radio conservative pundits and Fox News.
To say that the Democrats can control this ignores the reality of the situation. When someone tells you that you never have to worry about going bankrupt over medical bills or that you will always be able to seek treatment for any illness that might afflict your child, the rational response is to accept that offer. Instead, these people reject that because of some ill-defined concept they have of socialism.
The infestation that began with Reagan has flourished like a termite colony beneath a house. And the house is now buckling under the rot of it.
