Sen. Dianne Feinstein's Deterioration

He did appear in public later that day.

It looks like Mitch McConnell is also deteriorating rapidly. Reports are his recent freeze while speaking was not the first time. At airports, he uses a wheel chair. He has fallen more times than reported recently. His term ends in 2026. Can he last that long?

McConnell may have had a mini stroke. He did walk away okay. He is declining rapidly. Both Feinstein and McConnell need to be put to pasture. Give it up. Go have fun with what time you have left already.

If that was Hilary Clinton, there would already be thirteen books published about the incident and a D'Souza movie on it would be in final editing.
Remember, if this happens to Biden, they will replay it until it's seared into our eyeballs -- and we could end up with Trump again. Just imagine if it happened in, say, September 2024.

Mitch freezing up with that blank expression might be Lewy Body Dementia.

He can’t leave office because like so many people he is defined by his job and closely associates the end of his career with the end of his life. Understandable if a person is doing something they feel is purposeful.

Mitch McConnell has fallen multiple times this year, sources say | CNN Politics
Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, who froze during a news conference Wednesday and earlier this year suffered a concussion after falling down, has also endured two other falls this year, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

The first known time, in February, occurred in Finland when McConnell and a US delegation met with the Finnish president in Helsinki, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

...
That incident in Finland occurred just days before McConnell fell in March at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, where he slammed his head and suffered a concussion and broken ribs, which sidelined him for nearly six weeks before he returned to the Senate.

And just this month at Reagan National Airport in Washington, McConnell was getting off the plane when he tripped and fell, a source familiar with this incident said. He returned to the Capitol later that day. NBC reported on the fall at the airport earlier on Wednesday.

...
McConnell, 81, was a survivor of polio as a child and has long walked with a slight limp. He walks on stairs one at a time, and at times rests his hand on an aide to assist him through the Capitol. His falls have at times caused serious injuries, like in 2019, when McConnell fell at his Louisville home and fractured his shoulder.

Kentucky GOP Made Sure Mitch McConnell Can't Be Replaced by a Democrat
In 2021, Beshear attempted to veto a bill that would have restricted his power to replace a US senator with someone of his choosing if the senator were to resign or die before their term was up, the Louisville Courier Journal reported.

But the state's Republican-run legislature overrode Beshear's veto with McConnell strongly backing the effort, the Courier Journal reported.

Under the approved Senate Bill 228, the governor of Kentucky would now be required to choose someone of the same political party as the senator who left their job when temporarily filling a vacant seat.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein's Daughter Has Power of Attorney Over Her
Last month, the younger Feinstein, now a San Francisco fire commissioner, filed a suit against the trust of the investor Richard Blum, the senator's late husband. In the legal filing, she identified herself as an "attorney in fact" for the Democratic lawmaker. The agreement allowed the former judge to file the suit on behalf of her mother.

It's unclear to what extent the younger Feinstein holds power over the 90-year-old lawmaker.
What's that?
Another important reason to use power of attorney is to prepare for situations when you may not be able to act on your own behalf due to absence or incapacity," the American Bar Association says. "Such a disability may be temporary, for example, due to travel, accident, or illness, or it may be permanent."
Dianne Feinstein’s Long Fight Over Control of Late Husband’s Estate - The New York Times - "As Dianne Feinstein, 90, struggles to function in the Senate, a dispute within her family over control of her late husband’s estate is another difficult chapter at the end of a long career."
Katherine Feinstein, 66, Senator Feinstein’s only child, who has power of attorney over her mother’s legal affairs, filed two lawsuits against Senator Feinstein’s co-trustees. The first lawsuit, over the beach house, says the property is in disrepair, that Senator Feinstein no longer wishes to use it, and that she wants to sell it this summer or fall.

...
The second lawsuit, which challenges whether the trustees were properly appointed, concerns Mr. Blum’s life insurance proceeds and claims that the funds, which are supposed to be disbursed through a trust, have been held back by the trustees. The suit says that Senator Feinstein has “incurred significant medical expenses” and that despite Mr. Blum’s “intent to support his spouse after his death, the purported trustees have refused to make distributions to reimburse Senator Feinstein’s medical expenses.”

Power of Attorney at the American Bar Association - a US lawyer professional association
An important part of lifetime planning is the power of attorney. A power of attorney is accepted in all states, but the rules and requirements differ from state to state. A power of attorney gives one or more persons the power to act on your behalf as your agent. The power may be limited to a particular activity, such as closing the sale of your home, or be general in its application. The power may give temporary or permanent authority to act on your behalf. The power may take effect immediately, or only upon the occurrence of a future event, usually a determination that you are unable to act for yourself due to mental or physical disability. The latter is called a "springing" power of attorney. A power of attorney may be revoked, but most states require written notice of revocation to the person named to act for you.
So a PoA can involve a wide range of powers, and it's not very clear how much DiFi has granted her daughter Katherine.

That is actually pretty devastating. She really was a powerhouse all these years, and I hate that the grim beginning and depressing end of her career are going to be all that people remember about her when she's gone.

Well, people still enjoy other legacies of her career, even if they don't remember who to thank for them!

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 90, falls at home and goes to hospital, but scans are clear, her office says | AP News
She
“briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home,” her office said in a statement.

All of her scans were clear, and she returned home later Tuesday, said her spokesman Adam Russell, who provided no further details.
Senator Chuck Schumer spoke with her.
“She said she suffered no injuries and briefly went to the hospital as a precaution,” Schumer said. “I’m glad she is back home now and is doing well.”
Seems like she will be returning to the Senate before long.

Looks like it happened again.
article said:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared to freeze for about 30 seconds on Wednesday while speaking with reporters after a speech in Covington, Kentucky.

The incident is similar to an episode McConnell experienced at the US Capitol late last month and is likely to raise additional questions about the fitness of the 81-year-old to lead the Senate Republican caucus.
He looks like he lost a lot of weight, but maybe I haven't been paying attention.

Sad to see, hope he's okay.
