Anybody hear about this?
Apparently a lesbian got donor 330's sperm and not donor 380's sperm and now the child was born bi-racial.
She is suing for undue hardship.
I don't have a link handy ( I am on my phone ) but I saw the woman with her attorney on CNN last night.

Saw it on MSNBC a few minutes ago. Makes me wonder if she really cares about her daughter. Also if her community won't accept her daughter, what does it say about them?

Interesting.

On the one hand, she didn't get the product she ordered and the company should compensate her off that.

On the other hand, fuck that bitch.

The last thing we need is people thinking a white lesbian wanted a bi-racial baby.
Seriously I think the verdict on this can go way wrong.
I mean she could have aborted if she didnt want the product.

She obviously doesn't really want a kid. If she did, she would love it no matter what. Besides, she can always say she adopted the child.

Still, very selfish of her, and I can see a massive can of worms being opened - either way the verdict goes.

She says she does love the kid. She is suing to get money to move to a more tolerant neighbourhood. As is pointed out above, she didn't choose to abort the baby so it is at least plausible that she, personally, doesn't care about the fact that the baby is biracial.

Personally, I don't see the point of being able to choose the particular sperm donor, if the sperm bank is not held responsible for failing to provide what you choose. It's not like eg being delivered the wrong car, where you can just return it and get the one you ordered.

So wait ... her neighbourhood is tolerant enough that they're cool with a lesbian couple, but so intolerant that a biracial kid is in for some major shunning or something?

That's some really targeted mass hatred in her area.

It sounds to me more like she decided to get some money out of the doc, not that she's really that harmed.

That being said, they certainly do owe her some money as the product delivered was not what was ordered.

...Oh, I just have to do it:

...But yeah, that's something to deal with - as seen by the numerous videos of people flying off the handle because a black guy is walking. Or standing. Or sitting. Or running.

The mother loves and adores her child. However, she and her partner were not prepared 'socially or emotionally' to raise a biracial child and all of the issues that would bring.

Remarkably, I agree (kinda) with Loren: the clinic did not deliver what it claimed it was delivering and really seems to be a shoddily run place. The prospective parents are given a choice among donors and the clinic either needs to ensure that it honors that choice or decline outright, not play dyslexic roulette with donor samples. If they can't even keep ID numbers straight, what assurances are there that they performed all the appropriate screening for the health of their donors--to protect the health of the woman being inseminated and the prospective child? What if they inseminated her with the sperm of her own brother?

Are people who are vilifying the woman who is upset at the donor 'mix up' suggesting that it doesn't matter if she was inseminated with the donor sperm she thought was being used and that as a lesbian and/or a woman who couldn't conceive the 'right' way, she should just be happy she got a baby and shut her trap? Do you also think that hospitals should just not bother putting matching ID bracelets on babies and mothers but instead, just hand out random babies to women who are being discharged from the hospital?

she contributed to the situation, she could have aborted but deliberately created the situation at present... just saying...

OK, maybe I spoke too soon. Sue the bastards!

By the time she learned that the wrong sperm was used, she was well into her pregnancy. She found out in April; the baby was born in August so she wasabout half way through so much more restrictive laws apply in OH (and most of the U.S.) In fact, it might not have been a legal option for her.

Ohio Viability Law
Ohio has a ban against abortions after a fetus has become viable. This law requires us to perform viability testing before undertaking an abortion on a fetus that is 20 or more weeks in gestation. We will perform this testing during a women’s preoperative visit. This testing is included in the usual Pre-Abortion Visit fee. We cannot commit to perform an abortion past 19 weeks gestation until this testing is performed and the physician determines that the fetus is not viable. There are no exceptions.

But this is Ohio; so if the baby is black, all she needs to do is give it a toy gun, and call the cops. They shoot the baby; problem solved.

I actually fully agree. I'm sorry, but this affects everything from hair care to treatment in school to, as I said before, random people seeing them and turning violent. I think today's example includes a Florida woman being tasered by cops because she asked, at a distance, why there were a bunch of cop around [even better! they were detaining people for walking in a residential street - on a street that had no sidewalk]). And yes, they clearly did give them the wrong sperm.

OK, dumb question. Can they tell the color of the child before birth? I never got a girl pregnant and don't know much about the entire birth process.

donor 330 was black chances are that had something to do with the child being bi-racial.
