The Race For 2024

Wow, he looks terrible. The OP is right. Where the hell is the media on this?

Sure he may look bad but doesn’t this at least dispel the myth that he can’t read?

Maybe. Who knows what he is reading. Is it phonetically spelled out for him?

Cannot read is not much different than does not read.

He looks like a person who needs glasses but refuses to get them.

I thought the same.

He looks like a person who needs glasses but refuses to get them.

So does Biden.

Both of them look like an older person unaware of the fact that squinting makes you look older than wearing glasses does.

Slumped over? Looks to me like he’s bending to read something. He’s speaking more clearly than usual, so the speculation that he’s drunk is absurd. Was he speaking to an arena of people, or a smaller venue, where a lower voice might be more appropriate.

There’s plenty of disturbing video of his obvious health issues. There’s no need to grossly exaggerate this clip. That’s a Republican tactic.

One popular theory is that he suffers from ADHD, and he takes medication to help him keep his focus sometimes. An ADHD specialist who maintains this claim, John Kruse, suggests that he takes a stimulant, which acts to calm down people with that disorder. Kruse claims that he probably does this before major public appearances. His movements become slower, and he appears more lethargic, when he does that. He behaved more like this when he debated Kamala Harris, often staring into the camera without blinking while she talked.

I use the modern term "progressive lenses" so I don't feel so old.

Which makes me wonder...what do MAGAS call their progressive lenses? Freedom goggles?

Woke lenses. Real 'murikns don't need no stinking prescription lenses! That's just socialism anyways.

Why would you even trust some "expert" to know how your eyes work? Myopia can be cured by common sense, right?

Nitpick: "progressive lenses" is not the modern term for "bifocal" or "trifocal". Bifocals have two separate lenses in the frame, each of which gives clear vision at it's designated range (typically one is at infinity and one is at reading.) Each is clear across the whole glass for it's designated range. Progressives are not a simple curve, the whole top part is set for infinity (and thus is clear wherever you look) but the curve changes as you go down the lens, the bottom is at your reading range. This means that for any distance in between there is a point where it will be in clear focus, but at the expense of the sides. There's glass there but the image does not converge properly and the area can't be used for more than rudimentary tasks.

Yeah, I prefer bifocals, too. They seem more honest.

My optimetrist wanted to sell me these, but I refused on the grounds that I have excellent peripheral vision.

Which he should know, because he tested it, and expressed surprise at the result (I got a perfect score).

If my peripheral vision isn't either corrected, or completely obscured - eg because I wear glasses with small lenses - I get headaches. So I always choose single vision glasses with wide lenses.

But he doesn't make as much profit on those.

Yah, as explained above, (I’m assuming you actually knew this and were making a joke) these are not progressive lenses, they’re trifocals. Two lines going across dividing the focal zones.

Tri-focals are the humor of truly being deep into late middle age and into elderly. Not only do you now need glasses to read and hence bifocals, but you also need correction for “dashboard distance”, and hence the tri- which is the exactly joke about yes feeling old (being old!)

But since I cannot stand the periferal restrictions of progressive lenses, I will stick happily with my trifocals, TYVM!!

Well, an attempt to make a joke.

The first time I put on the progressive lenses (three pairs ago) it was disorienting at first. Like looking through a fishbowl. That feeling passed by the time I left the optometrist's office, and when I went to work the next day I was hooked. Which reminds me, I need to schedule an eye exam because my prescription needs some adjustment.

Now, back to the politics! The dock-worker's strike was averted, FEMA pushed back on the false claims that the Biden administration is cutting off aid to red areas in the wake of Helene and only giving out $750 for aid, and the right wing is struggling to put a negative spin on yet another spectacular jobs report. Oh, and Marjorie Trailer Queen thinks "they" can "control the weather."

It's like there's a contest going on with the right wing to see who can say the craziest shit. Is it moving the needle as far as polling goes? Frustratingly...not much.

Is this for real?
With that track record, no politician would have a chance in any other country, as far as I know.
I heard that the obvious situation is that democracy might be saved by a pop-star and a porn-star.

But they’re “bi”, so MAGAs shouldn’t wear them.

Every time I come here there are 10 mor pages of this thread. Forgive me for skipping some.
Some of the defenses of Kamala Harris on here have become positively cultish.
You are misinterpreting our motives. We do not worship Harris.
We are scared/afraid of Rump. When we read someone like you putting-down Harris, favoring Rump, We panic. And run to her defense. You overestimate our like of Harris, and underestimate our fear of Rump.
Please note that the graphic says this is donations from employees of these companies not the companies themselves.
I am suspicious of the 100%s in that chart. Doesn't look like random 'employees'. How do they know what employees are donating. Must be through the company.
where the opposition party is running on anti-immigrant bigotry like it is the turn of the 20th century.
Looks more like 1930s Germany to me.
It’s also true that Trumpapologists accuse Dems of everything of which they themselves are guilty.
Rump and FauxNews.
And in most of the world if you go deep enough to eliminate temperature variation it's too cold for comfort.
Go deeper. You'll get some stable volcanic heat.
But where do we steal grammar from?? It's words we take.
"Loose words" isn't as funny. (metaphor for 'loose change'.)
but the meanspirited piling on makes me feel sorry for the guy.
What about the meanspirited shit Rump spues out? Shouldn't you feel sorry for his victims? But you're not.
Derec is now complaining about the best economy in the world.
He's just repeating propaganda from Rump and FauxNews
I prefer bifocals, too. They seem more honest.
I'm too cheap to get bifocals. I use my standard Rx (infante) and a $10 pair of 'readers' from walmart.
I wear them both at once for reading. (like I am right now)

I can't believe how well this BS is carrying. Musk is part of it too. The misinformation is absurd and coming from the Trump campaign.

Our country is fucked. Misinformation is becoming too easy for the far right.

Some more lawsuits could stop that. To be honest, now that it has been shown it's pretty doable (Alex Jone, Giuliani, Dominion, Smatmatic etc) I'm a bit surprised hardly any ambulance chasers have put their hands up to file some more.

I am having cataract surgery in Nov. If it is not very successful I may need trifocals.

According to the ping-pong ball test, both are at the highest level measurable.

My own crude testing suggests that I can see slightly further to the right than to the left.
