The Race For 2024

Trump is going to lose in a landslide, but he will take office on inauguration day because proud Murkins like Swiz will take over the Capitol on certification day, and declare Orange Jesus to be Dictator Forever.
Don't be fucking melodramatic. Trump's only going to be dictator on day one. He'll be the forever God Emperor after that, though.

From Statista
In 2024 turn out will matter a lot.

Generation Z
Republican - 17%
Independent - 31%
Democratic - 52%

Millenials
Republican - 21%
Independent - 27%
Democratic - 52%

Look at that chart again. It may be inaccurate, as it has Gen Z identifying as Democrats at 31% and Independents at 52%. The chart actually has more boomers and silent generation as being more closely associated with Democrats compared to the two younger generations. They probably fucked up as the blue dot in the chart is associated with Independents and the Black dot is associated with Democrats. I don't think that chart is meaningful, considering that. Still, all of my old boomers friends and Gen X friends will vote for the Democrats. So, there is some hope.

Ballot harvesting is a thing in its own right so no, it is not known as "voting".
How many ballots have you “harvested” Swiz?
How many people do you know who “harvest” ballots?

WTF IS “ballot harvesting” anyhow?
EDUCATE ME, Swiz!!

Do you just go down to Ballots-R-Us and load up your cart?

WHY HAS NOBODY IN THE UNIVERSE EVER PRESENTED ONE SINGLE HARVESTED BALLOT TO THE COURTS?

What miserable creatures trumpsuckers are, to live in fear of imaginary boodeymen that they’ve only ever heard about through right wing propaganda channels…
Really. I feel sorry for you and your ilk, Swiz.

Another one bites the dust.

Gov. Doug Burgum ends 2024 presidential campaign | AP News
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum ended his long-shot presidential campaign on Monday, blaming his inability to resonate in the race on the Republican National Committee’s strict requirements to qualify for the debate stage.
He dropped out some hours before the RNC announced who would be in the Republican candidates' fourth debate. He was in the first two but not the third one.
He blamed the RNC, which sets qualifications for the debates, for “nationalizing the primary process and taking the power of democracy away from the engaged, thoughtful citizens of Iowa and New Hampshire.”

“It is not their mission to reduce competition and restrict fresh ideas by ‘narrowing the field’ months before the Iowa caucuses or the first in the nation New Hampshire primary,” Burgum wrote in his statement announcing his departure. “These arbitrary criteria ensure advantages for candidates from major media markets on the coasts versus America’s Heartland. None of their debate criteria relate to the qualifications related to actually doing the job of the president.”
His stated priorities?
Burgum was little known nationally when he launched his 2024 presidential campaign in June, touting his priorities of energy, the economy and national security, as well as his small-town roots and leadership of the sparsely populated state.
Seems like George Bush I, in my mind the last halfway-decent Republican President.

 2024 United States presidential election

RealClearPolitics - Election 2024 - 2024 Republican Presidential Nomination

From the polling, Donald Trump continues to advance, at 61.0% (RCP average), while Nikki Haley, at 10.3%, is getting close to Ron DeSantis, at 13.5%. Vivek Ramaswamy is next, at 4.9%, then Chris Christie at 2.5%, and finally Asa Hutchinson at 0.6%. Doug Burgum was also at 0.6% when he dropped out.

Ballot access for presidential candidates - Ballotpedia - Filing deadlines for the parties' primaries are now passing. The first one was on October 15, and the last one will be on March 26 the next year.

Filing deadlines for independent presidential candidates, 2024 - Ballotpedia - the first one is nearly half a year away.

The last debate that each candidate appeared in:
  • 1st: Asa Hutchinson
  • 2nd: Mike Pence
  • 3rd: Tim Scott
  • 4th: Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy
Live updates: Latest on the 2024 campaign and highlights from GOP debate
Attacks against Haley: The clearest sign of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's rise in the race? Her opponents made her the center of attention during much of the first hour of the debate.
RdS and VR criticized her for accepting $250,000 of super-PAC support from a Democratic donor.
Haley, who also recently received the backing of the conservative group Americans for Prosperity, said she welcomed help wherever it may come from but wouldn’t let it dictate her policies. And she said her competitors would take the money too if it was offered.
So NH is offering the Francis Bacon defense: "Sure I took their money, but I didn't let it influence me." That was when he was a judge who was caught taking bribes from his clients.
“I’ve got these three guys who are all seeming to compete with Voldemort — ‘He who should not be named,’” Christie said, referring to the Harry Potter series villain whose name characters avoided saying. “They don’t want to talk about it.”
Donald Trump, who is far ahead of them in polls of likely Republican voters.

It's so frikkin ironic! It's people on the right worrying and obsessing about voter fraud. And yet the group that was actually caught trying to commit voter fraud was the Trumpsters! They are the first to say how great the EC is (because it elected Bush and Trump, when they didn't have the majority votes). Then the second the EC doesn't favor them, they tried to overthrow the EC and send the election to the states! Having said that, I'm not sure if Tswizzle is a Trumpster or not.

The same way Buttigieg can head up the DoT. You don’t need a subject matter expert at this level. You need highly intelligent people with strong leadership skills.
Yeah, but Mayor Pete's educational credentials are much more impressive than Gov. Jennifer's. And he has a more varied professional life (e.g. military service), rather than being an 08/15 lawyer-cum-politician that US government is oversaturated with. Obama was at least willing to venture outside this career politician mold to fill his cabinet.

Because she was appointed by a person who
A: knows more about the job requirements and the candidates’ capabilities than you or I, and
So basically, your argument is that Granholm is a good choice because Granholm appointed her?
B: has the best interests on America in mind, unlike the guy you say you didn’t vote for.
I did not vote for him either time, if you mean Trump.
Get a clue.
You should take your own advice.

You tell us you didn't vote for Trump and, under the rules we must pretend to believe you.
You may pretend or not, but it is the truth. Just because I criticize your guy (Biden) when appropriate does not mean I support Trump.

By the way, I think he did the right thing defending Israel's right to exist and to defend itself from aggression from Gaza. Too bad he (and SecState Blinkenlights) is starting to waffle, no doubt due to anti-Israel extremists in the Democratic Party (far-leftists and/or Muslims).
But in 99% of your writings here you adamantly take the same side of issues as QOPAnon does.
Being in favor of gay marriage is taking the same side as "QOPAnon"?
Generally being in favor of abortion rights is taking the same side as "QOPAnon"?
Supporting infrastructure spending is taking the same side as "QOPAnon"?
Supporting the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is taking the same side as "QOPAnon"?
Supporting legalization of marijuana is taking the same side as "QOPAnon"?
Supporting legalization of consensual sex work is taking the same side as "QOPAnon"? Ok, that one most Dems oppose too, but so do Republicans.
And many other issues.
But at the same time, I will criticize Dems and Biden where I see appropriate. That does not make me a Trump supporter or "QOPAnon" whatever that is supposed to mean.
Assuming you have friends that you discuss politics with, you certainly encourage them to vote for the QOPAnon Party even if you don't.
How do you figure?
You provided no evidence that she was picked because of her gender, but wrote "she has the politically correct set of genitals."
What evidence do you expect? A Nixonesque recording where he admits to it? You won't get a smoking gun like that. But Biden went out of his way to nominate the record number of women. That suggests a form of affirmative action rather than nominating due to merit. Esp. when Biden is on record supporting affirmative action. And esp. when his nominee lacks energy experience.
From here it looks like you'd condemn any female appointed by Biden on those grounds. That makes YOU the one with a gender test:
Appoint a male or Derec will whinge.
No. If he had appointed a woman with the resume of Steven Chu, I'd say nothing about it. But his cabinet seems to be checking "diversity" boxes more than being selected by merit. Hel, even the lefty The Intercept roasted him for this! Of course, they think he is not going too far enough. They think he has appointed far too many white dudes.
A "couple of times"? Do you honestly believe it was only twice? Should we make it a bet?
I don't know the exact number. Might be three or four times since 2018. But it certainly is far fewer times than you brought it up. And when I brought it up it was for a legitimate purpose, i.e. to show that she did not use her fancy edumcation in her work life.
Do you remember that I needed to link to her Wikipedia page before you even knew she'd had other employment?
I am looking at it now. Bar girl/waitress it says, then started a publishing firm that doesn't exist any more (questionable if it ever made any money), worked for some non-profit and the Bernie Sanders campaign. Oh, and protested against an oil pipeline (by driving >3000 miles from Queens to do it). Yeah, she sure put that Boston University degree to good use in her professional life!

And you got tired of calling her "bartender" so started on "bar maid" or "bar girl" pretending not to know that in American diction these terms are belittling.
Again, it is you who keeps bringing up her food and beverage industry employment up all the damn time, apropos of nothing. If we do a bet, it should be about the ratio of first mentions (not replies) made by me vs. by you.

I've shoved your misogynism back in your face enough that you've finally stifled yourself.
Again, it is you who keep bringing it up. And it is not "misogynism" to point out that even though she has a degree in economics from a fancy private university she worked as a waitress and bartender instead of taking a job in her field.
You still trot out "heels up" and other misogynistic insults.
Sex lives of male politicians are made fun all the time. Slick Willie and the blue dress. Hiking the Appalachian Trail. Mushroom-shaped dick.
So why do you think doing the same about a woman is "misogynistic". No, it is egalitarian, and your attitude is paternalistic and condescending.

Now, as to Kamala Harris specifically. I first took an intense dislike to her when she championed the disastrous and illiberal FOSTA/SESTA legislation. That bill greatly harmed sex workers without protecting anybody. But that's her - sexual liberties for me, but not for thee.

Maybe that's one reason why you ally so closely with Donald Trump, even if we all need to pretend that you're not part of his Ilk.
I never voted for the guy. I begrudgingly voted for Biden in 2020, as I was (turns out rightly) wary of the joint task forces he formed with Sandernistas, and I could not stomach voting for either major party candidate in 2016. So how can you suggest I am "closely allied" with him? It's ludicrous!

Trump isn't Hitler. But he tried to overturn our election. Hard to believe that so many support him on the right. I'd vote for the most liberal person in the entire US government over Trump.

The point I was making whooshed over you. I was talking about how some on here are quick to accuse everyone they disagree with of being a "Trumpsucker", similar to the attitude parodied in that image.

Just returned from seeing a niece get married in South Africa. Discovered that I cannot sleep well on aircraft.
Melbourne - Singapore = 7 hours
Singapore - Johannesburg = 10 hours
Thus 17 hours one way = 34 hours return.
Lucky to have got 4 hours sleep in that time.

Pity I could not get your presidential candidates debates on the plane. I am told that they are excellent to cure insommnia.

My attention to Derec in these threads is NOT about politics, but about cognition. With the US on the verge of a fascist take-over it's good to understand the psychology not just of blatant Trumplickers but of the fellow travelers whose support the Trumpists will need to prevail at the ballot box.

A patient claims a certain number is 2 but under prodding admits that it "might" be 3 or 4.
Scenario A) The correct number is 5 or 6. This isn't unusual, especially among aging patients.
Scenario B) The correct number is more than 30. With this sort of discrepancy we might reach for our copy of DSM-5-TR. :-)

To represent "more than 30" as "2" is reminiscent of Trump's famous Inauguration Day. "Hundreds of thousands. Everybody says so."

I will be criticized for derailing a conversation supposedly about politics into one about Trumpist cognition. But I do NOT think this is wrong. Clinton eliminated the federal deficit, but more newsprint was spent on a single blowjob. First, you write TWO times. Now you condescend to admit it "might" be 3 or even FOUR. Would you like to guess again?

And with anyone else I'd assume "edumcation" was just a finger-slip while typing. But knowing you, I'm sure you couldn't pass up the chance to invent a word to display your misogyny. Even in a post where you're trying to deny that misogyny! :-)

Are you aware that I can type "bartend* // Derec" into the search menu and get all occurrences? And did so (see below). Would you like to revise your estimate again?

The number rhymes with "Flirty Fun."

And you got tired of calling her "bartender" so started on "bar maid" or "bar girl" pretending not to know that in American diction these terms are belittling.
Again, it is you who keeps bringing up her food and beverage industry employment up all the damn time, apropos of nothing. If we do a bet, it should be about the ratio of first mentions (not replies) made by me vs. by you.

Oooops. I didn't search for "bar maid" etc. So the "Flirty-Fun" number should actually be increased.

33 hits.
I first called attention to this sickness May 12, 2021. And, as I stated earlier, this did stifle Derec's open misogyny somewhat.
I've struck out two posts unrelated to AOC. But I've left in one unrelated to AOC but where Derec mentions "bartender" while defending Trump against E. Jean Carroll's accusation. Judge and/or Jury agreed that Carroll had been raped, but Derec begs to differ. I've left this one in because it helps confirm misogyny and latent Trumplicking.

With this sort of discrepancy we might reach for our copy of DSM-5-TR.
Ooh. The DSM. So what's your diagnosis?
ee45e9a7-c414-40fa-bed2-eab597b67271_text.gif

To represent "more than 30" as "2" is reminiscent of Trump's famous Inauguration Day. "Hundreds of thousands. Everybody says so."
If we leafed through DSM-5, maybe we would find a disorder matching your obsessive tendencies. You keep bringing up Trump randomly, just like AOC's bartending career. And no, this isn't #33. I stated specifically I only count instances where I bring it up, not respond to others or use it in an ongoing conversation. That's why your tactic, to do a quick search without even manually verifying results, does not work. But more on that later.
I will be criticized for derailing a conversation supposedly about politics into one about Trumpist cognition.
It's not only a derail, it's also an attack on a fellow member's mental status.
But I do NOT think this is wrong. Clinton eliminated the federal deficit, but more newsprint was spent on a single blowjob.
Sex scandals are juicy, federal budget is dry. It's human nature.
That said, I agree with you. I thought the whole scandal was ridiculous even at the time.
Kamala Harris is the first female to serve as VP but all the Trumpists want to do is associate her with a misogynistic label.
I do not consider being an affirmative action pick an accomplishment. At least with Clinton, you found something that he actually accomplished. And no, a sex joke about a female politician is no more misogynistic than a sex joke about a male politician is misandrist. You are advocating a sexist double standard here.

I think the cognitive style -- and eagerness to prevaricate -- of Trumplickers and their fellow travelers is central to the political impasse.
More blah blah and meaningless accusations.

First, you write TWO times. Now you condescend to admit it "might" be 3 or even FOUR. Would you like to guess again?
No. The number is not even important, as long as it is lower than the number of times you brought her previous job up for no reason. More important is why I brought it up, and that is to point out that she did not use her degree in her professional life. That is a legitimate point.
And with anyone else I'd assume "edumcation" was just a finger-slip while typing. But knowing you, I'm sure you couldn't pass up the chance to invent a word to display your misogyny.
Unlike some, I can type. Usually. And this spelling is not my invention.
Even in a post where you're trying to deny that misogyny!
Using a humorous misspelling is "misogyny"? You really do see "misogyny" everywhere, do you?

Are you aware that I can type "bartend* // Derec" into the search menu and get all occurrences? And did so (see below). Would you like to revise your estimate again?
A crude tool, as we shall see.
Search for Derec's use of bartend

I first called attention to this sickness May 12, 2021. And, as I stated earlier, this did stifle Derec's open misogyny somewhat.
What is a "sickness" is your obsession with me mentioning AOC's previous employment. And it is not "open misogyny" nor was it stifled. The issue largely went away (but for your random mentions) of its own accord. By May 2021 she wasn't the shiny new thing in Congress any more.
I've struck out two posts unrelated to AOC. But I've left in one unrelated to AOC but where Derec mentions "bartender" while defending Trump against E. Jean Carroll's accusation. Judge and/or Jury agreed that Carroll had been raped, but Derec begs to differ.
The crazy woman can't even remember what year the alleged rape happened, and y'all believe her with zero evidence. The US tort system is seriously flawed to the point of being a popularity contest.

I've left this one in because it helps confirm misogyny and latent Trumplicking.
All it does is confirm your obsessions.

By the way, links would have helped, as would context. For example:
2023 House vote for speaker
We are all well aware of her professional "qualifications". Why are you progs so obsessed with pretending that anybody wants to get into her pants?
Seems like I was responding to someone. Not bringing it up. I also did not use the word "bar" at all in my response. Fail.

This is a dishonest comparison, but par for the course for the bartender from Queens. She is comparing total defense spending with a bill that increases entitlement spending. Total entitlement spending is already much higher than defense. Medicare alone is more than defense! Note also that...
Oh, an actual mention of "bartender". Congratulations. I guess I will give you this one, although it is relevant, as it goes to her qualifications.

Congress as a body has subpoena and legislative powers. Nobody claimed she can pass legislation with one vote, so that's a strawman. AOC is also more powerful than an average Congressman, because she is the leader of the Squad, a far-left group of Congresspeople. It would be incredibly naïve...

That doesn't make her bad. Perhaps underqualified, but not bad per se. What is bad about her resume is that she went to a very expensive school to get an economics degree and then did not use it, preferring a bartending job that allowed her to gallivant all over the place (e.g. driving 2000...

I think so too. Georgia Tech 1, Boston U. 0. And my degree isn't even in economics. :) It's a weird job for a graduate from an expensive private university to pursue, instead of something in her field. I know why she did it though - unlike a real job, bartending allowed her to take a lot of...
