The Thread For New Republican Legislation

Maybe they should just come up with redacted versions of the Bible. Black out all the lines and passages with the offending material.

Thomas Jefferson has already done that.

according to that wikipedia article Jefferson also removed all the supernatural references to. I'm not sure the religious would like a Bible in their school that only included the moral teachings of Jesus.

Undoubtedly they would object to something that provides only the "Woke" stuff that Jesus is said to have said.

Undoubtedly they would object to something that provides only the "Woke" stuff that Jesus is said to have said.
Never mind Jesus; Even OT God was worryingly committed to the Woke agenda:

Gen9:13-14 said:
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud

This Woke "rainbow" conspiracy goes all the way to the top!

Conservative revolt in House alarms Senate GOP | The Hill
Senate Republicans are growing increasingly concerned with the antics of House conservatives as they paralyze business in the lower chamber with key legislative battles looming in the coming months.
Then about 12 right-wing House members who kept some bills from going forward, including Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz.
This is giving Republicans across the Capitol agita as they brace for it to be a preview of coming attractions. Lawmakers still need to pass government funding bills, the farm bill and the annual National Defense Authorization Act, among other things, in the near term.

“They’re going to have to sort it out over there. Maybe there’s some bruised feelings. … There’s a lot of governing to do,” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a former House member, told The Hill. “If you’re just going to pull the lever for the sake of pulling the lever — yes or no — as a protest, there’s too many important things out there that we need to have addressed with thought.”
Sen. Kevin Cramer R-ND compared them to his grandchildren.
“They love attention, and they behave well when you’re giving them a lot of it. And then as soon as you’re done giving them attention, they get mad and you’ve got to give them more attention,” Cramer said. “I’m not sure some of them understand the magnitude of their responsibility, quite honestly. There’s a group of them, evidently, who didn’t want a Republican Speaker. They wanted a Republican king.”

“We have a majority in one chamber, but they’re not governing,” Cramer added. “I’m concerned about their ability to function.”

Undoubtedly they would object to something that provides only the "Woke" stuff that Jesus is said to have said.

This Woke "rainbow" conspiracy goes all the way to the top!

Typical European appropriation. Is that really the best you can do? The term "woke" is derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination". There are better instances of God being woke than the rainbow.

For instance:

Acts 10:34-35 - God does not show favoritism

Galatians 3:28 - There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

1 John 4:20 - anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God* whom he has not seen.

Sounds woke by the African-American definition not that bullshit European (namely US based republicans) one they turned it into.

Florida Republican moves to expel Schiff from Congress | The Hill

Censure of Adam Schiff blocked by House

These 20 House Republicans voted to block resolution to censure Adam Schiff | The Hill
Reps. Kelly Armstrong (N.D.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (Ore.), Juan Ciscomani (Ariz.), Tom Cole (Okla.), Warren Davidson (Ohio), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Kay Granger (Texas), Garret Graves (La.), Thomas Kean Jr. (N.J.), Kevin Kiley (Calif.), Young Kim (Calif.), Mike Lawler (N.Y.), Thomas Massie (Ky.), Tom McClintock (Calif.), Mark Molinaro (N.Y.), Jay Obernolte (Calif.), Mike Simpson (Idaho), Mike Turner (Ohio), David Valadao (Calif.) and Steve Womack (Ark.).

...
Five Democrats, all of whom sit on the House Ethics Committee, voted present: Reps. Mark DeSaulnier (Calif.), Veronica Escobar (Texas), Glenn Ivey (Md.), Deborah Ross (N.C.) and Susan Wild (Pa.). Republican Reps. George Santos (N.Y.) and Darrell Issa (Calif.) also voted present.
I've seen some speculation that the R's who voted to table this resolution are R's with borderline victories, R's, who don't want to be associated with hard-line MAGA R's.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna R-FL-13 introduced all these resolutions. She was elected last year, yet she has an enormous grudge against Adam Schiff.

H.Res.412 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): In the matter of Adam Schiff. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
"Resolved, That, pursuant to article I, section 5, clause 2 of the Constitution of the United States, Representative Adam Schiff, be, and he hereby is, expelled from the House of Representatives."

Without explaining what he is supposed to be guilty of.

It did not go anywhere.

H.Res.437 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Censuring and condemning Adam Schiff, Representative of California's 30th Congressional District. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
Censuring and condemning Adam Schiff, Representative of California’s 30th Congressional District.

Whereas the allegation that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 Presidential election has been revealed as false by numerous in-depth investigations, including the recent report by Special Counsel John Durham, which documents how the conspiracy theory was invented, funded, and spread by President’s Trump’s political rivals;

...
Resolved, That—
...
(4) Representative Adam Schiff be, and is hereby, fined in the amount of $16,000,000.
That $16 million is half the stated cost of investigating that alleged collusion.

It also did not go anywhere.

H.Res.489 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Censuring and condemning Adam Schiff, Representative of California's 30th Congressional District. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
Pretty much the same as the previous one, with some differences:
Whereas if it is determined by an investigation conducted by the Committee on Ethics that Representative Schiff lied, made misrepresentations, and abused sensitive information, he should be fined in the amount of $16,000,000:

Resolved, That—
...
(4) the Committee on Ethics shall conduct an investigation into Representative Adam Schiff’s lies, misrepresentations, and abuses of sensitive information.

But it was voted on.

“Based on their assessment of community standards, the appeal committee determined that The Bible has significant, serious value for minors which outweighs the violent or vulgar content it contains,”

Gee, would be a shame if those bibles in the schools had all the violent/vulgar passages bookmarked and highlighted... That might make it actually popular to check out at the library.

“Based on their assessment of community standards, the appeal committee determined that The Bible has significant, serious value for minors which outweighs the violent or vulgar content it contains,”
And what value is that? I mean, anyone that has STUDIED it, and I mean STUDIED... not some go to church and one or two verses are dissected and find out what we think it means... but studied, know that this book isn't particularly interesting. It is very much like the second Star Wars trilogy. Great opening, pretty good ending, but the middle is... drawn out and quite boring. It is a very long book to say the Ten Commandments make it worth having in the library. And let's get real... are they keeping the Tanakh in the library or The Bible.
article said:
"The magnitude of the value of the Bible as a literary work outweighs any violence or profanity which may be contained in the book,” Davis School District Board Vice President Brigit Gerrard said.
I've read the thing. It isn't a particularly good literary work. It is old and decent for its age, but as a literary work, it makes no damn sense.

Amid a dangerous heatwave that has brought blistering temperatures across Texas, the state’s governor signed a law this week eliminating local rules requiring water breaks for workers.

The measure, which will take effect later this year, will nullify ordinances enacted by Austin and Dallas that mandate 10-minute breaks for construction workers every four hours. It also prevents any other local governments from passing similar worker protections.

Just days after Greg Abbott, the governor, ratified the law, officials said a 35-year-old utility lineman working to restore power in Marshall, Texas, died after experiencing symptoms of heat illness. The heat index – which takes into account both the temperature and humidity – was 100F (37C) while he was working.

It was an omen of what could come after HB 2127 takes effect in September, wrote the Texas branch of the AFL-CIO union, referring to the far-reaching law that not only curbs cities’ right to enact worker protections, but a number of labor, agriculture, natural resources and finance measures. “Banning required rest breaks for construction workers in the Texas heat is deadly.”
Republicans are such nice people.

Anna Paulina Luna | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
She has some grudge against Adam Schiff. She has submitted no less than 5 resolutions to censure him or expel him.

H.Res.412 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): In the matter of Adam Schiff. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
To expel him from Congress. It did not go anywhere.

H.Res.437 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Censuring and condemning Adam Schiff, Representative of California's 30th Congressional District. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
It also did not go anywhere.

H.Res.489 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Censuring and condemning Adam Schiff, Representative of California's 30th Congressional District. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
It got a vote to table it, what I'd posted on earlier, a vote that succeeded.

H.Res.512 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Censuring and condemning Adam Schiff, Representative of California's 30th Congressional District. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
It did not go anywhere.

H.Res.521 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Censuring Adam Schiff, Representative of the 30th Congressional District of California. | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
It omitted the fine of $16 million, and it turned Rep. AS's "lies" into "falsehoods" toward the end, but it otherwise closely paralleled the others.

That last one got these votes:

On Motion to Table
D: Y 208, nv 4
R: N 218, nv 4
Ttl: Y 208, N 218, nv 8
The resolution was allowed to continue, and the vote on that motion was completely party-line.

On the resolution itself
D: N 203, nv 3
R: Y 213, P 6, nv 3
Ttl: Y 213, N 203, P 6, nv 6
It passed, and Rep. Adam Schiff is now censured by the House for being involved in investigations and impeachments of Donald Trump.

Six Republicans voted "Present" for some reason or other, but otherwise, the vote was completely party-line.

I've seen some speculations that the Republicans who earlier opposed that resolution now support it because they are afraid that Donald Trump might support primary challenges for them.

Boebert attempt to force Biden impeachment sent to committees - Roll Call
The House on Thursday voted to refer articles of impeachment of President Joe Biden to the Homeland Security and Judiciary committees, punting on an impeachment vote that may have been politically difficult for some Republicans.

The party line vote, 219-208, came after Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert sought to force a vote on impeachment this week by filing a privileged resolution that allows a member to bypass House leadership to bring a measure to the floor. Boebert’s resolution argues that Biden has violated federal immigration laws and failed to protect the country's southern border.
LB likely wanted that vote because the usual process, sending the resolution off to some committee, seemed to her like an attempt to bury her resolution.
Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern, the top Democrat on the Rules Committee, said that “nothing about this is serious” and said that Speaker Kevin McCarthy had “lost control” of the floor to the far right.

“This body has become a place where extreme, outlandish and nutty issues get debated passionately, and important ones not at all,” McGovern said.

That resolution itself

D: N 208, nv 4
Ttl: Y 219, N 208, nv 7

It passed on a party-line vote.

That was not the end of LB's troubles with impeachment, as we all know: Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Boebert a ‘Little Bitch’ on the House Floor

Acyn on Twitter: "Saw this conversation… not sure if it was a friendly (vid link)" / Twitter
A presiding officer told them: "Take your conversations to the back. Off the floor."

According to two of the sources, Greene then stood up and alleged that Boebert “copied my articles of impeachment,” to which the Colorado lawmaker fired back that she hadn’t even read Greene’s resolution.
Rather curious, since LB or one of her staffers could easily have visited congress.gov and found many previous impeachment resolutions.
“I’ve donated to you, I’ve defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little bitch to me,” Greene told Boebert, according to a source who witnessed the exchange. “And you copied my articles of impeachment after I asked you to cosponsor them.”
