Things that make you laugh...

Okay, I forgot to copy the follow-up question, slightly re-phrased version of the same question. It gave different numbers with more references. But I only followed up because the last sentence of perplexity’s response here struck me funnier than anything I’ve seen all day:

That's a lot of virgin births, making it not so special. Virgin birth in the sense of no father, not as not engaging in sex. As after all, according to the Bible Mary did have sex - with YHWH.
Of course, there is a blunder in the original stats given here, and their interpretation. Because while the vast majority of women who give birth are in that 15 to 49 age range, many men who have fathered children are 50 or over. This explains the discrepancy with the 15 to 49 male age group.

I don’t care how you spin it - if women are giving birth to that many more babies than men have fathered, there’s a parthenogenesis epidemic going on!

I strongly suspect that vastly more men have children with more than one mother.

For purely physiological reasons - a woman can only have children to one man once every nine months or so; A man can have children by different women once every nine minutes or so.

Some exaggeration there Bilby. ;) Not even the most virile of men can have sex every 9 minutes continuously. Plus on average only one in 150 times does pregnancy result (also dependent on fertility cycle).

This explains the discrepancy with the 15 to 49 male age group.
Killjoy. It’s straightforward!
Women have had more children in their lifetime than men have fathered”, ergo some children were not fathered by men.
I think I know some of those people.
You don’t mean our dear leader?

Speak for yourself. ;)

And, yes, of course it's exaggeration. But make it nine hours, and use your 1:150 ratio, and that's still one child fathered every two months, which is four to five times the rate of procreation that women are phisiologically able to achieve. And of course, not even the most fertile women have a child every nine months continuously.
