To Give You a Size of the Immense and Growing Size of Illegal Immigration

Well, she's had about four years to sort her visa issues out and somehow never got around to it?

You're making a lot of assumptions about the fucked up process of immigrating to America. Don't make me John Oliver you.
I’m not. If the article mentioned her efforts to sort it out after the Covid lockdowns ended then I apologize but I didn’t see it. Perhaps there’s another, more detailed, source of information on her case.

What's the process of immigrating to Australia? How lenient is AU for people who overstay their visas or enter without authorization and authority? What's the AU process for refugees or those claiming asylum - are they treated as if they're full citizens while awaiting review of their claims?

Tu Quoque is a discussion technique that intends to discredit the opponent's argument by attacking the opponent's own personal behavior and actions as being inconsistent with their argument, so that the opponent appears hypocritical. This specious reasoning is a special type of ad hominem attack.

No matter how fucked up Australian, North Korean, Kazakstani or Timbuktuvian immigration laws might be, this does not make US immigration laws any less fucked up.

Thing is, US immigration laws ARE less "fucked up".

You can complain that it's tu quoque... and if that makes you feel better, run with it. But there's also a bit of "glass houses" involved here too. When the US is derided as somehow evil for doing things that are reasonable and appropriate and more lenient than what your country does, it rather comes across as special pleading and pointless hatred.

"more lenient than what your country does" can be, and demonstrably is, a LONG way from "reasonable and appropriate".

There's no special pleading; I abhor the abuse of immigrants in any country.

And there's nothing at all pointless about hating fascism.

Great - I'd absolutely LOVE to see you turn your ire on your own country and tell us what a horrible shithole your politicians are for engaging in such abuses and fascist rules. Please, share your views of how evil your government is.

Well, it varies from government to government, but mostly it's absolutely appauling evil shit. The current government is not as bad as most, but if the polls are accurate, the next could be one of the worst in a long time. And the election is this year.

Australia ditched the White Australia Policy, but hasn't ditched racism or xenophobia yet.
