Twitter likely to take idiots offer to buy them for $43 billion

In Texas, our right winger AG is investigating Media Matters over its pointing out X's habit of placing major advertisor ads next to Nazi and White Nationalist materials. Which is kind of nice. Media Matters For America is not run by fools. We can be sure the justaposition of ads next to extremist posts will be well documented. And on demand, presented to the AG's office in piles. Big companies like IBM probably checked out Media Matter's allegations, and also documented their findings. I am sure IBM will be happy to testify why they pulled their ads from X to our Texas AG. As will other large corporations. Protecting corporate reputations and goodwill in today's political climate is serious business. If Muskrat is foolish enough to sue, there will certainly be a vigorous defense. And eventual countersuit.

Well, the X lawsuit wasn’t filed the “split second court opens on Monday” and it’s not particularly “thermonuclear,” Daily Kos’ Mark Sumner writes:

[T]his latest lawsuit is a farce designed to cover up the real source of X’s revenue loss. The biggest factor driving advertisers away from the platform is simply Musk and his support of racism and antisemitism. It was Musk’s own endorsement of an antisemitic post that sent major advertisers running for the door, not the Media Matters report. And this is far from the first time. In the past, Musk has supported the “blood libel” conspiracy theory and blamed Jews for antisemitism.
Any reasonable judge would throw this out in a heartbeat, but since Musk’s team has carefully court-shopped this suit to a conservative district in Texas, don’t be surprised if it hangs around much longer than it should.

I had a Twitter account for about 12 years. My then employer wanted is all to Tweet. I never liked it so I didn't. When Musk took over I started to look around. I found an enormous about of junk and right wing shit and as much as I tried filtering it out, it kept coming. It was also an enormous time waster.

But anyway, Mush's most recent hate speech and the rise of Nazi shit prompted me to delete my account. I know that no one there cares. But I feel better now.

I still have an account--but now it simply exists so NSFW tweets don't get blocked. The few accounts I followed all disappeared.

if you're looking for nudes there are far better places.

I think what you're trying to say is that the adjacent Nazi ads are counterproductive. It's almost as bad as trying to look at porn while Matthew McConaughey is trying to sell you on Lincolns.

...

Or so I've heard.

The latest advertiser fallout on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, could end up costing Elon Musk's company much more than the $11 million in revenue that the company previously estimated could be "at risk" due to backlash over antisemitic content on X.

According to internal X sales team documents reviewed by The New York Times, X may lose "up to $75 million" as more than 100 major brands—including Airbnb, Amazon, Coca-Cola, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, and Uber—have stopped advertising, while "dozens" more are considering pausing ads on the platform.

These sales team documents, The Times reported, "are meant to track the impact of all the advertising lapses" in November. On top of noting which brands have stopped advertising, the documents also flag brands at risk of halting ads. Ultimately, the sales team's goal is listing "how much ad revenue X employees fear the company could lose through the end of the year if advertisers do not return," The Times reported.

and now Muskrat is dragging out Pizzagate nonsense. Wow, I've long thought his 'amazing tech' promises was just stealing old sci-fi ideas and claiming he could do that, but now stealing out of date conspiracy nonsense? And why this now?

It is like "trolling liberals" is a hobby these days for millions of people. Such a hobby they are faux peddling QAnon stuff now. It's bizarre!

Alt-Right: *faux peddle QAnon CT*
Left-wing: Umm... are you serious?
Alt-Right: Haw! We totally owned you!
Left-wing: You posted about a crazy conspiracy theory regarding the abuse of children to "pwn the libs"?
Alt-Right: It was totally worth it!

So Twitter can't sustain itself without advertising. We all agree on that, right? Because for social media companies to succeed it is us that is the product. The customer is the advertisers.

So Musk's new strategy to entice new advertisers? Telling them to go fuck themselves.

Sheer brilliance.
