Two Minnesota Lawmakers Shot

It’s starting.

What is starting and when? Did it start when there was an attempt on presidential candidate Trump’s life? Or when a congressional baseball practice was the subject of a mass shooting? What is starting exactly?
You're a fake American (I.e. immigrant) living in a state that’s being targeted by ICE. What is "starting exactly" is you need to start packing. You don't even watch FOX new for fuck's sake - you're fucked when Trump's brownshirts knock down your door.

LIke I don't get how many ways it has to be shown that the military doing domestic enforcement is the start, and that it already happened.

Fascism. Fascism has started.

Something Something price of eggs something something LET'S GO BRANDON!!!!ONEONE

That's about as much of an explanation you're gonna get. Some people are okay with anything being done to them so long as they see others suffer.

No, it began when a President, having failed to overturn his previous defeat by forceful coup attempt, decided to try to install himself permanently as Leader for Life, in an unconstitutional process which is now ongoing.

BTW there was not attempt on shithead's life. It was a staged inside job. The dead trumpsucker thought they were going to arrest him like they promised. Never take the word of a fascist.
Do you have a link about the staged inside job on Trump's life? That would be worth a read.

Why do you Yanks hate each other so much?

There are two main reasons, in my view, for the growing division among Americans.

First, the role of algorithms in social media and online news feeds has been deeply corrosive. These systems are designed to show users more of what they already engage with, which often leads to increasingly polarized content. Traditional news outlets had already been capturing this divide in niche markets, creating ideologically targeted programming—liberal vs. conservative. As a result, this previous division has become magnified.

Second, Donald Trump has actively exploited the division. Through misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric, he’s deepened societal fractures and used the resulting chaos to consolidate political power consistent with authoritarian strategies.

At a deeper level, both of these forces seem rooted in a broader problem: the influence of oligarchic interests. Wealthy elites and powerful corporations benefit from a divided public, and they’ve shaped the media and political landscape in ways that serve their pursuit of profit and control, often at the expense of unity, truth, and the public good.

The question has an implicit assumption that this is a uniquely American issue. I don’t know if it is or not but assuming it is then why would what you describe here not apply to other cultures or nations?

Not every country has a Donald Trump, a two-party system, or the amount of money we have in politics. But I think some other countries DO have similar issues. It's a spectrum.

This thread doesn't give me any hope the division is getting better.

Horeshit about assasins on both sides of the political spectrum.

The rest of us don't want to kill people. So we hate the chance of political instability that could lead to us vs them-ism bloodbath.

Now I remember why I left this echo chamber for a decade. No different than some right wing political board. Change the pronouns and the arguments and threads are surprisingly identical. Down to the dehumanizing insults.

It's why the middle hates you both.

Nice to know you are the spokesperson for the “middle”. Maybe you could explain why that hatred led the “middle” to elect Trump?

We Americans love to hate you.

I was on tiktok and responded to a post about the abuses of slavery before the civil war. I mentioned I am glad we in the south lost the civil war and deserved to and I still got lots of insults.

It's not uniquely American, but Americans started it, and are the targets of it. More Americans had internet access earlier than any other country. And the propaganda is therefore tailored to Americans. There are plenty of Australians who have been caught up in the propaganda, but they tend to be a minority, and the majority pull them back into line by mocking them for being as dumb as Donald Trump supporters.

Americans are also uniquely easy marks, due to their belief in the rugged individual, beholden to nobody. Citizens of other OECD countries see appeals to individualism, libertarianism, and Randian objectivism as the bizarre clown show that they are, while many Americans swallow that concept of their isolation from (and elevation above) society without question or hesitation.

Second, Donald Trump has actively exploited the division.
Overtly, not actively. Both democrats and republicans have been doing it for decades but less overtly.
Yes, your system is fucked. You need to change it. Take the money out of politics, make it more palatable for normal people instead of extremists on both sides. Maybe make voting mandatory, so that outcome less dependent on extremists wings. Ranked choice of course. Close Political Science departments/degrees in universities. Term limits in Congress. Send Lindsey Graham to prison.

Calm down, Trump only cut his ear.
Perfectly calm fella. But it doesn’t matter if the shooter clipped Trump’s ear or missed by a foot, it was still an attempt on Trump’s life. And let’s not forget, an innocent bystander did die. But I guess this falls within the “mostly peaceful” narrative that is so prevalent these days.

Crooks was Republican and not peaceful.

Yeah, I don’t see why it would, as long as a nation has conservative and liberal minded people. As long as a nation has people who devote many hours a day swimming in the toilet of social media.
And it's not the wealthy corporate interests. It's us. We tell them what we want, what we will click on, where they can make the most money, and they give us what we want. It's always someone else's fault. Not our individual lack of self-control.

Where all this "You Americans" shit comes from, I'm not sure. I think I would have to live outside the US for an extended period of time to understand this. Perhaps it's having what Americans lack, an external punching bag. I dunno. For now, it's just another stereotype.

And wasn't it determined that "the middle" actually consists of about 2.4% of the voting population? That people who call themselves the middle or independent or undecided are people with varying opinions on different subjects and/or simply like wearing the moniker as it brings the illusion of a more weighted vote?
