Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

Is there any particular reason His Majesty isn't wearing a wedding ring?
He is. It's on his little finger, stacked with his signet ring, as is his habit.

He is an outlier, most British royal weddings have only one ring, for the wife, so it is his choice to wear one at all that is unusual.

How do you know these things?

bilby was a history professor before deciding that bus driving is a better job.

How does anyone know anything?

I often wonder how other people apparently manage to live their lives, without developing a vast and profound knowledge of utterly useless trivia.

Do they not pay attention? Or do they forget things?

And how come I can easily forget where I left my car keys, but not the minutiae of royal protocol? I am a lifelong republican (small "r"), and anti-monarchist, but I still remember this rubbish.

I didn't even study history at high school.

I did subsequently study it as a hobby; Probably it's more interesting when you don't have to pass exams in it.

Before I was a bus driver, I was a Software Engineer and SME for FPM software; A Master Production Planner for a pharmaceuticals factory; Exports Coordinator (also in pharmaceuticals); A sub-contract estimator and draftsman for a commercial glazing builder and installer; A molecular biology student; and a labourer in a tannery.

Amongst other things.

I understand that many people have just one career throughout their lives; Sounds very tedious to me. ;)

Visiting Fort Bragg as part of his birthday celebration (and cracking a joke which made him "the cream of the litter") Donald Trump levied some 6th-grade insults against his political opponents while the soldiers joined him in booing. But then we learn that those soldiers were handpicked based on their politics! (And Trump's prescription for the picking included "No fat soldiers.")

On a related matter my sister messaged me that some of the marching soldiers at Trump's birthday party were walking out of synch etc as a big f you. Is this true?

You could say that. Weekends are precious for those in the military. There is always some training or mission critical evolution coming down the pike to take away your weekend. In the best of circumstances, you hope your regular duty day doesn't land on a Saturday or Sunday. So when you get some horseshit like celebrating Trump's birthday to ruin your weekend, everyone out there pretty much has a bad attitude.

Understandable.

I ran into this factoid before but ran into it again just now. One of Trump's early mentors and his fixer was Roy Cohn, formerly chief lawyer assisting Senator Joseph McCarthy in his rampage on freedoms in the 1950's. Finally disbarred for unethical and unprofessional conduct.

Yep. I had forgotten.

The idiot in chief is paving over the Rose Garden.

Details of the Renovation:
  • Paving the Lawn: The central grassy area of the Rose Garden is being replaced with a paved surface. This is reportedly to create a more functional space for events like press conferences and ceremonies, as the soft ground could cause issues for those wearing high heels.
  • Flagpole Installation: Two large flagpoles, measuring 100 feet in height, are being installed on the North and South Lawns. Trump stated that the grounds "needed flagpoles for 200 years".
  • Other Changes: The renovation also includes upgrades to the garden's electrical and lighting systems, as well as the addition of new furniture. There are also plans to add an elaborate chandelier to the Oval Office and potentially a ballroom.
  • Mar-a-Lago Aesthetic: The redesign has been described as reflecting the aesthetic of Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. There has been discussion about using materials like limestone and even interchangeable hardwood flooring for the new paved area.
  • Timeline: The project is expected to be completed in about two months.
Controversy and Reactions:
  • The decision to pave over the grass has generated significant debate and criticism.
  • Some view it as a break from the garden's traditional role and a departure from the historical preservation typically prioritized at the White House.
  • Others have expressed concern about the cost of the project and whether it aligns with the administration's priorities.
  • A White House official defended the changes, calling it a "restoration" that preserves the beauty of the space while enhancing its practical use for events.
Wut an asshole.
