Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

My son recently became a federal employee after working as a contractor for many years. I had to text him that the felon signed an executive order requiring all federal employees to work in the office five days a week. As the only highly experienced programmer/developer in his department, you can imagine how unhappy he was about that. I do wonder if this will be enforced, especially since the felon also signed an order putting a hiring freeze on federal employees. If my son were to leave, that department would be fucked, so we shall see what happens.

How much time will Trump spend "working" at the White House vs Mar-a_Lago? I think that every work day he spends at Mar-A-Lago should be reported to.... him.

Oh wait... no... first some noise.
“America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth — inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world,” Trump said. “A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.”
Today... said that today. Fuck! Who fucking cares about the gulf?!
Well, the names of places are determined by customary usage.

Saigon is still called Saigon by the people who live there.

Politically imposed name changes just act as a way to further polarisation. You can tell which side someone is on by the way they spell Kyiv, or which name they use for the city and county of Derry; And every single person who wants to talk about those places now has to pick a side - there is no neutral ground.

The only way not to be partisan is to shut up entirely.

Which is the whole point. It makes everyone either an extremist, or silent.

This is fucked up on so many levels. Of course, the right wing - who usually loses their shit over violent criminals being released from prison - is cheering this move. If they had any shame, they'd take the "Back the Blue" stickers off their pickup trucks, but they don't and they won't.

What really scares me is the message this sends...on several levels. Obviously, it's a horrible example for kids. It used to be "if you work hard and study, maybe someday you can be President." Now it's "beating the shit out of a cop is okay, because the President can pardon you if you do it in his name."

It also tells the violent criminals just released from prison that they're under special protection from Trump himself, and if they feel like doing any more violent crimes - beating their spouse, beating someone they think is queer, beating their children - it's okay, because they can just ask for another pardon. Will he pardon someone who kills their wife in a fit of rage? Probably not, but maybe, and in any case the crime will already have been done.

It also tells ardent supporters of Trump that they, too, can commit violent crimes and be pardoned. There will be even more attacks on LGBTQ people. There will be even more attacks on minorities (especially brown people who "look like illegals). Those contentious school board meetings could turn violent as Trump supporters feel the gloves are off. There could very well be mass shootings where the damaged individual who takes dozens of lives thinks they've been given a "get out of jail free" card.

Why is anyone surprised by any of this?

I didn't watch what was going to be a pure shitshow and I'm doing my best to avoid the news about it. I just can't muster the energy to be outraged at all this shit all over again.

Trump doing crazy and immoral things?

Say it ain't so!

IMO, there's likely not going to be another legitimate election process within two years from now, so Whatever.

Dear America

You deserve everything you get.

Signed

A world that will probably try and copy what you do.
No, Trump voters deserve what they get. The people who didn't vote for this don't. Pretty simple. Also I wouldn't wish this on survivors of abuse either.

We will ALL* be survivors of abuse - if we survive.

Won't be abuse for the Trump voters. They deserve it. ;)

After all that's how they treat victims of abuse.

Yesterday was a bit of the canary in the coal mine to provide the direction he'd be heading. He didn't plop tariffs down, so that means a bit of restriction there. He pardon most of the January 6 mob folk, commuted the worst offenders. That is pretty ugly stuff. Immigration, cancelled Afghan resettlement to help get families together post withdrawal. Hardly a shocker. Gulf of America... what does that even mean?! Panama Canal... just talk at the moment. So as far as how bad it could have been, probably 60 to 70% as bad as it could have been.

I agree though on the stepping outside it. I'm having trouble with summoning the energy to even bother at this point. SCOTUS is going to continue peeling back Federal oversight authority on the economy, Civil Right, and *whatever else*.
