How do you imagine Jesus in the fleash?

Tall, pearly while skin, blue eyes. and blonde? That was the cross and Jesus that hung over the alter in my Catholic curch as a kid.

When I was a kid a saw a black Jesus painting in a black neighbor's place but was too young to understand the significance

We know people were shorter in the area due to nutrition when young. Doors were smaller. Someone born in the area wandering around w0
ould have been likely short, wiry, dark eyes and hair. Made darker by exposure to the sun.

More like a picture of Gandhi than a tall Nordic person.

Watched an interesting show on how Nazis created the Aryan myth which is reflected in white Europe images of Jesus..

I always picture him as Jamie Farr.

Take anyone in a MAGA hat to the police sketch artist. Ask him/her to describe the kind of person we want to keep out of America. You'll get a holy image of Jesus of Nazareth. USA!! USA!! USA!!

I have long imagined him as looking and acting like Avner Eisenberg did in Jewel of the Nile:

But of course, we can have no real idea. Not like any currently existing "racial" group or stereotype, certainly. Phenotypes change a lot in a dozen generations.

Nazis created the Aryan myth???

Jesus was depicted as being a white man all through the Renaissance, and much earlier periods.

I think Clayton Cardenas would play a good Jesus, though I believe he's hispanic. There's something about his looks, expressiveness, and presence:

I hope you have not fallen for the myth that there weren't Nazis in ancient Israel.

There have always been politically oppressive people and groups of people. But I'm pretty sure the ones in ancient Israel weren't called Nazis.

Maybe I got mixed up and it was just Judean slang for Nazarenes.

The ironic aspect of it is that the majority of accounts of the ancient Hebrews slaughtering their foes in a nearly genocidal manner were total lies to make themselves look badass.

Long term a very poor decision to bullshit about being killers.

Also, the OP sort of concedes that Jesus did exist, something I give a 5% chance at best for.

But if he did, he would look like a Palestinian or a Levantine Jew.

The archeology says the ancient Hebrews were minor players in tough neighborhood. They got beatenn several times.

Cleary the OT is embellished with excavated glory, power, and the supernatural.

Indeed. Context is king. Their neighbors the Assyrians so glorified genocidal slaughter that Sennacherib decorated his private palace with stone-relief depictions of babies getting disemboweled and no one seems to have thought it was weird. Judah was a brutal empire surrounded by equally brutal but much larger empires.

Why do atheists fake interest in what some bible character may have looked like?

Why do atheists fake interest in what some bible character may have looked like?

Because we hear incessantly from Christians that he is supposed to be A, B, C and here’s his picture, and we’re all, “wot!? You jus contradicted yourself, dude!” And they’re all, “did not, he’s totally like my picture.” And we’re all, “yeah real human being people believe weird shit, check this out.”

Honestly, if there weren’t so many of you trying to inject your weird beliefs on us all the time, we wouldn’t talk about it at all.

Because atheists never opine on "what the Bible says" in rather ideologically biased ways, then accuse Christians of inconsistency when they disagree...

Atheism is not an ideology philosophy, morality, or creed. It is a rejection of all things supernatural related to religion and as a specific rejection of all supernatural and most historical claims of the bible. The flood, parting the waters, walking on water...

The onus is on the theist to make their case based on evidence. Other than old writings of unknown authors and no independent corroboration.

Interesting. Usually I am told that it is "merely a lack of belief in god."

It is an interesting Christian cultural phenomena. The white European Jesus is tall, pearly white, flowing blonde hair, and blue eyes. The image is a falsity considering where and who he was born to. I believe there is an obscure reference to his being bronze colored.

So your lord and master was not probably black African featured, but more like someone from Palestine today. So when you pray and imagine Jesus put him in the proper physical context. Genetically Palestine Jews today are distant cousins of the Palestinians. If you believe the bible Arabs and Jews have the same ancestry.

Note that religious imagery is prohibited in Judaism.
