U2 The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)

I've seen U2 live numerous times but skipped the latest shows at the Forum and it seems this tour is top notch. I know they have their detractors but U2 can still deliver great music. Might not be particularly innovative but it's still good quality.

this is Meiko Kaji who had a couple songs used for the Kill Bill soundtrack.

The song is "Yume wa Yoru Hiraku"

This is Nanako Sato from 1977. The style is definitely influenced by western music of the time, but the chords seem different. I am not a musician so I don't know if I am right.

You're right and wrong. The chords are standard, but the texture is busier than you would typically hear in western pop.

This song is exceptionally busy. But the wall of sound it has compared to the punchy drums is cool to me.

The busyness suits this song better. A more successful production to my ear. I like the piano part.

But both suffer from the vocalists clumpy rhythmic conception, which is pretty typical for a non-American group from that time. These days, people all over the planet have grown up listening to western style music and consequently can swing.

Compare the first to this Adele song which also uses a broken chord 16th note accompaniment, but with a simpler texture that doesn't get in the way.

But more importantly, Adele sings with much more rhythmic finesse, implying subdivisions with syncopations. Gives the song a lift or lilt, a swing that produces energy without using much effort.

Listening to Deltron 3030. I think this album should be listed in my top ten all-time favorites. I know it's early to know for sure if it will stand the test of time, but I have a feeling it will stay there.
