Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

Shakarndo can be classified as been so bad that it's a must see film. The others are just bad beyond imagination.

Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, or "The Cars That Ate Paris" must surely rate as the worst films ever made! Shakernado looks like academy award stuff compared to those two stinkers. Both those I would rate 1/10

Bad bad. Or so bad it's good bad?
I love Killer Tomatoes, which had three sequels and a saturday morning cartoon. btw, George Cloony's first move role was in the second Tomato movie, which also featured John Aston

I don't like that sort of film as a rule, but "The Cars That Ate Paris" was great. Remember, it was made in 1974.

The worst film ever made was Chelsea Girls. No contest.

I've always wanted to see a porn movie without the porn. Just gorgeous people delivering lines catastrophically. There's something compelling about seeing attractive, yet talentless people trying their best and failing. And with a script that stacks every conceivable trope on top of each other to the point where it stops making sense. Zach and Miri make a porno and Orgazmo have been a bit along these lines. There's no real porn in any of these, and the scenes are beyond idiotic. But they're still about porn, in a meta-sense. It would be nice if somebody went all the way and cut any porn reference out completely. Other than implicitly. Of course made perfect with shitty porn music.

I might as well review these gems, since I brought them up:

Zach and Miri make a porno. 8/10. Laughed and laughed and laughed. It's very smart. But could have been funnier. They dropped the ball on several jokes IMHO. The social commentary is more profound than the humour. Works wonders.

Oh, look it can be seen on-line in it's entirety. Who would've thunk?

Orgazmo 10/10
This little gem, by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, pre-dates South park. It's a tongue-in-cheek movie about the porn industry and religious hypocrisy. every joke is perfectly executed, and they hit every mark. Plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

Hmmm, according to Netflix reviews, there's a version of the porn parody 'Pirates: Stagnetti's Revenge" with the porn removed. The reviews are pretty hilarious. I haven't seen it.

Just realized that Barbarella and Flash Gordon both fit that description pretty well. Both, excellent movies, albeit ridiculous.

The Zero Theorem: 6/10

new terry gilliam film - could have just been called Brazil: 2014 edition - now with slightly less batshit!

was entertaining, looked good, but just about all gilliam movies fall into one of two categories: movies where he has a lot of creative freedom and it's pretty much wholly his movie and has no point and ends abruptly with little to no regard for narrative arc or structure, and gilliam movies where his "gilliamness" is reigned in by studios or collaborators, which are usually actually good.
this mostly fell into the former category, but it was notably coherent for a gilliam film.

Boxtrolls: 7.5/10

absolutely gorgeous animation - but i really like stop-motion animation so i may be a little biased in that regard - surrounding a paper thin plot and cut-out cliche characters.
it was lovely to watch, and i really like what studio Laika is doing on a conceptual level, but all of their movies (Coraline, Paranorman, Boxtrolls) have suffered from a major case of shallow-plot.
if they could just get some decent writers give them a film worthy of their gorgeous technical work, they could make something amazing.

Lantana 9/10

I saw this in the theatre when it came out with someone who didn't scruple to let me know how bored they were.

Had a chance to watch it properly yesterday and it is every bit as good as the critics said.

The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers

6.5/10 and 7.5/10, respectively

The Marx Brothers' first two features were both adapted from stage plays and it shows, especially in the former film, which has some funny moments but also drags several times. The second film is a lot livelier, but still flawed, especially by the fact that the best moments--the big "Hurray for Captain Spalding" number featuring Groucho, the scene where Harpo and Chico cheat at bridge, etc.--are all packed into the first half of the film. Both, particularly the latter, are worth a look, but if you're not familiar with the Marx Brothers' output, Duck Soup and/or A Night at the Opera are the best starting points.

Identity Thief starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. Not as bad as it sounds actually. Melissa steals the show in my opinion. Don't expect laugh out loud comedy, but quite an amusing film nevertheless.

6.5/10

Don't forget about A Day At The Races, which I think is their best film. It isn't classically referred to as their best, but I think it the strongest comedy film they ever put out.

Gone Girl: 2/10
it was 2 hours and 45 minutes long, absolutely nothing happened, no point or statement about life was made, and overall the entire movie was like "hey, what if we made a 3 hour long movie with bad lightning where everyone acts completely expressionless and talks in a low monotone, with a screenplay written by Derec about what he thinks is actually going on with a Scott Peterson style wife-killer media circus"

it was just AWFUL.

Gone Girl 6/5
Well made except for the dumb script which aims to be thought provoking, but provokes the unflattering kind of "say what?" thoughts.

Up in the Air

8/10

A smart and socially aware comedy from Jason Reitman, who for a while seemed like the Next Big Director-Thing. The biggest reason to see this is Anna Kendrick's Oscar-nominated breakout performance; she more than holds her own with her bigger-name costars, George Clooney and Vera Farmiga. I also enjoy seeing two of my favorite supporting performers turn up, Sam Elliott and Melanie Lynskey.

Hawke 7.5/10

I wasn't expecting much from this but it was much better than anticipated. I would never have picked Richard Roxburgh to play Hawkey. I was wrong.
