Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

Cannibal Mukbang

Mukbang is an activity wherein someone eats a lot of food online while others watch. People enjoy this for a variety of reasons.

A guy with a steel plate in his head meets a girl who's way too attractive for him, but she seduces him and by the end she really does fall in love with him. The title is a dead giveaway, so obviously she, the cannibal, is eating people she's murdered on her mukbang videos.

It's a very earnest horror romantic comedy. The film tries really hard and succeeds sometimes at being a heartfelt love story in a Gen Z kind of way. The guy is maddeningly awkward and she has to pull him along throughout the film. Also, there's a big scene that guarantees it's going to be key to the movie, but it's never followed up on. It also asks the viewer to make some pretty big leaps and while it tries to be unpredictable, you can pretty much guess what's going to happen in the end.

It's not fair to say this is a bad movie, but it has a number of bad movie elements. OTOH, it has a lot of great elements too. It's like a labrador retriever puppy at their first few obedience training lessons, which is consistent with this being the director's first time ever directing a film.

If you like horror, you can definitely do worse. If you don't like horror, this one probably isn't for you.

Horror Scale: 6.89/10
