Breakdown In Civil Order

Cool story but that is probably no comfort to the people of Vancouver that are victims of violent crimes which are increasing.
Neither are histrionic posts and bullshit "documentaries" on the internet. In fact, scaremongering is basically the opposite of comforting.
Disorders exist wherein a patient derives a perverted sort of comfort from identifying objects upon which to focus their hatred and bile, not dependent upon any real property of that object.

So you don’t a problem? Ok.

I don't a problem?

I guess you mean "you don't see a problem"?

If so, my answer is that I see a lot of problems. What I don't see - especially coming from the types of people who use a lot of square quotes and emotional appeals in place of sound reason or even facts - are meaningful solutions to those problems.

Ah yes, forgive my clumsy fingers.

You don’t seem to appreciate just how big a problem it is. You’re very dismissive of these things.

Is that right?

Video of a recent Tacoma pot shop robbery. Smash a car through the store front has bece a common event. In this incident a securiy guard and the robbers exchanged gunfire.

They were ornized. A car smaed in folled by 5 or 6 peole grabbing pot, out in around 30 seconds.

This is not a one off in the region and not limited to pot shops. Snaching a car through a store front, putting a chain on an ATM, and dragging it away.

Anyone who thinks this is a kind of hyped emotional response is not paying attention to what is going on down at the lower levels of society. Or is a liveral with blinders.

In Wa latest reporting is abortion is fading as a voter issue, it crime and safety along inflammation.

So you're upset that I'm asking for practical solutions instead of indulging in pointless melodrama? Sorry, but that is not my way.

What is he supposed to do? Prove that you are wrong by offering a list of remedies and solutions that they've proposed in the past? That's actually not too hard:

1) Punish bad people severely, including lots of capital punishment.
2) Scare away or incarcerate all of the illegal immigrants or at least those who look illegal.
3) Stop coddling poor people.
4) Force women to behave more morally by carrying all pregnancies to term. Don't just jump in bed with anyone.

Eventually, people will get the message and behave in a more disciplined way, eschewing acts of criminality. They will become more polite, because they will be afraid of the consequences of not being polite. Women will become more chaste and obedient. If a lot of murderers are executed, the rest will be too scared to carry on as before. Or there just won't be as many around anymore. (I can see why he is reluctant to spell these obvious solutions out for you, but it is exhausting. Basically, it's be bad to bad people and they will become better people.)

I'm well aware of the game.

Actually, not using a violent attack on someone with whom you have ideologically differences in order to take an inane ideologically-driven swipe would be a start.

What the heck are you talking about? I asked a simple and obvious question, that's not an "attack", violent or otherwise.

Gosh, this kind of crime is new, unprecedented, and clearly an indication that society is breaking down.

As people mistakenly said in the 1990s, when a load of new businesses suddenly popped up with high value products in one easy-to-rob location, and crime spiked. Of course, back then it wasn't drugs, but something less prone to cause pearl-clutching - they were targeting computer chips.

Thirty years ago, this was a big news item in the UK; Vast amounts of ink were spilled and questions asked in Parliament.

But it wasn't new even then.

The roots of such attacks go back to the period before the Second World War. ... Initially, these involved the use of one car but by the end of the 1930s the use of three or four vehicles had become common ... The first could be used to damage the access point, the second for the raid, the third for the getaway and the fourth to obstruct the police.

Society has been exactly like this for all of my life - indeed, even for all of YOUR life. That you are only now becoming aware of it speaks to your failure to pay attention, and/or to a recent increase in sensational reporting. There were no YouTube videos of ram-raids in 1935, but they assuredly were happening all the same.

There's no novel criminal activity evidenced here, and nor is there a general increase in the number, the violence, nor the effectiveness of such crimes. Quite the opposite - in most places in the developed world, violent crime has been in a steep decline for fifty years.

What? Are you suggesting that Steve is wrong, that civilization is not about to crumble? Sounds like science fiction to me.

My post was not in reference to your response but to the one to which your responded. I apologize for not being clearer.

Vancouver has pretty low crime rates for a major city, especially by way of comparison to the major metropoles of the US.
Cool story but that is probably no comfort to the people of Vancouver that are victims of violent crimes which are increasing.
The Republicans keep pointing out crime issues in blue areas to distract from the fact that Republican areas generally have higher crime rates than Democrat areas. As always, it's projection at work.

Densely populated areas have more murders, shock!

A comparison by murder rate would be potentially meaningful, but this is just idiocy.

It's as smart as pointing out that it's safer to eat ice cream in winter time, because more people experience brain-freeze from ice cream in the summer.

Ah, so are you denying that the murder rate is higher in Dem counties?

The politically incorrect thing to notice is the robost relationship between the black percentage of population and murder rate. But black people tend to vote Dem, so there ya go.

I am saying that your maps don't tell us ANYTHING about murder rates.

Which you would probably be expected to know if you had a clue what you were on about.

Ah, so are you denying that the murder rate is higher in Dem counties?

See for yourself. Looks like Republican areas are winning the competition, with Mississippi and Louisiana fighting it out for the top spot. Sorry that I couldn't find a breakdown by counties, but maybe you could learn to understand the difference between raw numbers of homicides versus rates of homicide by population.

Homicide Mortality by State
