Interesting comments by one of Trump's former lawyers appearing on CNN regarding Trump intentionally misleading another of his lawyers (as quoted by Raw Story):

Uh, Tim, the case is so ****ing strong that they didn't need to try to flip Walt Nauta. They're going to send them both to prison.
 
If Aileen Cannon runs the trial, I would be surprised if she sentenced Trump to jail. She could even set aside a jury verdict. Basically, though, I think she'll simply take the arguments made by Trump's lawyers and follow those as guidelines for her rulings. That's mainly what she did the last time she oversaw litigation involving Trump.
 
It's Tuesday! Trump arraignment day. This is so exciting! Trump is there. The judge is there. The protesters are there. And of course there will be counter protesters, there to boo Trump as he waddles into court. And lots and lots of police. I suspecT at least a few fist fights, arrests, loud chanting and maybe a few drunks. A large pack of reporters, cameramen, and this day will be a real circus. Lots of angry MAGAt tears and violent rhetoric. And much shit posting for the next few days. In the future people will be asking, "Where were you when Trump got indicted?". It is going to be a long day.

Now, the appointment of a "no cost" attorney usually only applies to defendants who are unable to afford to pay for one, but as Trump's difficulty in getting one is largely because of his history of not paying for them, I think the court could stretch a point.

Or we can hope for his most obvious course of action. Trump can represent himself!! After all he knows more about everything than anyone else. He has certainly been involved in enough lawsuits to have some idea of what to do. :sneaky:
 
Another wrinkle in this. Any attorney for Trump may need to meet high security clearance standards because this involves top secret documents. So not just an Florida attorney may do. The pool of eligable Florida attorneys shrinks when that is taken into account. Many large and well regarded law firms will probably have some one suitable for such a client. J. Random Stripmall Esq. lawyer not so likely to be able to have a security clearance
 
Could a sympathetic judge find Trump guilty, but refuse to sentence jail time on the grounds that it would be "too divisive" and a threat to public safety?
 
A judge can do whatever they want. Whether it stands is the question. I think the easiest way out is to forfeit his privilege to be President. Of course, he could still run.

I have heard from some legal experts that he won't serve prison time because the secret service won't be with him in prison and he has the right to life long secret service protection. So, if convicted, will he be put under house arrest and who will keep him from leaving his house? We need some laws changed so we don't have a president who has broken so many laws and can still hold office.

Why can't he have Secret Service protection in prison? It's a controlled environment, where close protection should be very easy to manage, assuming that he would be segregated from the general prison population anyway, due to his fame (a wise person once said that you're not famous unless someone you have never met wants to kill you).

It's not like the SS bodyguards would have to stay in prison; They would go home at each shift rotation, just like all the prison guards already do.
 
First bomb threat today for the Miami courthouse. Police are clearing the site and sending in the bomb sniffing dogs. Trump's motorcade is in route to the court house.
Trump will be arraigned, will then fly back to Bedminster and is scheduled at 8:30 pm to rant and rave angrily to MAGAtland.
 
So Trump can still be indicted in DC and New Jersey. I believe there was a grand jury in DC for this, Jan 6th aside. Indictment in DC on conspiring with Senior Chief Culinary Specialist to remove the documents. Then in New Jersey on his conversation with family member #1 to "move the documents north".

Further, my understanding, as per some talking head on MSNBC is Cannon was only one of four judges in the pool as Jack Smith filed in West Palm Beach and from there she likely had the smallest case load at the time.
I think she'll conduct herself with the honor her office warrants unless she wants to get her ass handed to her again.
 
Some Trump gear laden whack job murders a judge and the GOP in the House will shout "Look at what the Democrats did!"

I'm just telling you what I keep hearing. I'm not a legal expert. I've also thought they could put him under house arrest, take all of his assets and make him live in a modest house. Or they could put him in a mental hospital, give him a desk with a sign on it that says, President Trump and humor him. He is obviously mentally ill. It's not going to be easy to find an objective jury, especially in Florida.

To be honest, if he just agreed never to run for president or any public office again and to and stay out of the public limelight, I'd be satisfied with that. Having him for president again would be very harmful for the US and the world. Of course, having someone like DeSantis would probably be just as bad. So, there is no easy solution for our problem. The way that the Republicans are demonizing Biden is worrisome. There are too many ignorant Fox News cultists in the country who believe the lies about Biden.

If a Republican is elected who isn't Trump, they will likely pardon him. But, he still hasn't been indicted in Georgia. That crime is a state crime and the president can't pardon state crimes. Plus, Georgia doesn't allow our governor pardoning powers, based on what I've read. Come on Fanni Willis. Do your thing!
