Another Fucking Mass Shooting At US School

Though we're awash in current events from all over the world, this barely makes the news anymore and hardly draws a comment.
Welcome to normal.
The reason that this mass shooting receives little attention is that it neither involves the so-called "assault weapons" nor does it have a white shooter. So it's not suitable to make political points the Left wants to make. Look how much more attention that Florida woman is getting who shot her neighbor. There we have a more politically advantageous story for them.

Btw, in the Richmond case, they caught the shooter.

Three problems with your reply:

  1. The thread is about mass shootings, not just the type of weapon involved.
  2. The race of the shooter is not at issue. Ease of access to guns is.
  3. This is not just about the Left. Most conservatives also seem to want better gun control to help curtail mass shootings like this.

A mass shooting near a Washington State music festival Saturday night left at least two people dead and three more injured, police said.

The suspect shot at one point “randomly into the crowd,” at a campground near the Gorge Amphitheater where the Beyond Wonderland electronic dance music festival was taking place, Kyle Foreman, a public information officer with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office told a news conference.

Officers, he said, responded to a call at 8:23 p.m. local time (11:23 p.m. ET) “to reports of shots fired into the crowd.”

“The shooter then walked away from where the incident happened,” he said. He added that after law enforcement moved into the area “he continued to randomly shoot into the crowd and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.”

Why the fuck would anyone in a developed nation want to have a handgun for self defence?

Grand jury declines to charge man for death of alleged robber in SW Houston taqueria shooting

While the shooter probably overdid it, ultimately he stopped a dangerous armed robber. So I am of a mixed mind on this decision.

I guess I don't understand why you would be mixed. Isn't it reasonable that the customer feared for his life? And in that case, as is stated by most gun proponents, it is reasonable to defend yourself. If all those cops that kill potentially armed or even unarmed people are legitimately defending themselves, why not this guy? If that kid in Wisconsin was in the right, why not this guy? Or the guy in Florida who stalked that kid in a gated community and got in a fight with him.

His point was about why we didn't hear about it, he's not denying it's a mass shooting.

I consider that one iffy, also.

In general the best course of action with an armed robber is compliance. The problem comes if compliance becomes impossible--the robber not being satisfied with the size of their take, or that the employee can't open a secured storage for money etc. Or the guy is too nervous and might pull the trigger by accident.

The moron in Wisconsin was probably in the wrong. Unfortunately, Wisconsin law says the prosecutor must prove it wasn't self defense beyond a reasonable doubt--and while I think he probably had unclean hands and thus no right of self defense, but that's not the same as beyond a reasonable doubt.

The utter moron in Florida was legitimate in my book. He was attacked and at a severe disadvantage. Again, it comes down to clean hands--but in that case I think he had them. He had made no attack. There was no indication of a threat other than of informing the police. Florida is what happens when the street culture meets the real world--the response to an attempted beatdown can legitimately be a bullet. This isn't Hollywood, slamming someone's head against the ground very well can kill.

The shooter in Derec's video is different--legally, a deadly threat still existed as the robber was waving his gun around at people. However, it's pretty clear he was attempting to leave, making compliance the best option.

You misspelled "only one student was murdered".
So it's not suitable to make political points the Left wants to make.
When did not wanting children being shot to death in schools become a political point? When I was a kid, we had fire drills. My daughter does those, and the lockdown / someone is trying to murder y'all drill. That isn't fucking political, it is a fucking travesty.

My reply addressed Derec's main point, which was that lefty liberal politics was why we didn't hear about it. I disagreed. I didn't miss his point. You missed mine.

he can’t know what’s in the mind of the robber and he clearly was a morta threat not only to the shooter but every person in the restaurant.

I would think most of the pro gun folks would have no problem here. Especially after all the “good guy with a gun” talk as the way to stop the bad guy with a gun.

Just surprised there’s not more support that’s all. Is it because the shooter wasn’t a police officer?

He would probably have fired his morta.

The problem is the gun-grabbers focus on rare events.

Which is riskier? A year in grade school, or taking a flight?

They're approximately equal

We had nuclear attack drills. They were a lot easier. You just cram yourself under the little one piece desk, cover your head and wait for the “just kidding” signal.

While he can't know it's reasonable to infer--and the guy is in all probability leaving at that point. I do not like his decision but such decisions do not permit time for careful analysis. And the reality of defense shootings is that a decent number are of attackers who were actually breaking it off (saw the defender was armed and NOPED! out) but within the shooter's decision loop. In this case the shooter went as soon as he had a clear chance--robber's head was turned away and a miss isn't going to hit anyone in there. (Yes, there's the other customer--but the shooter is below the robber, his rounds will be going up.)

What if neither of them had a gun?
1) You can't accomplish that without pretty much disarming all of society. And even then you probably can't. Most crime guns are stolen.

2) When attackers have weapons like knives the victims are more likely to get hurt because the intimidation factor is less.
